The cardiac left insufficiency with mitral dysfunction is a relevant cardiac pathology with importante repercussion in the lung, leads to pulmonary edema. Pulmonary edema corresponds to the accumulation of fluid in the lung parenchyma and alveoli, and can be classified as cardiogenic or non-cardiogenic. Clinical signs and symptoms include presence of dyspnea, cough, tachypnea, and alteration of normal sounds during lung auscultation. In this case report, a 16 year old female Lhasa Apso dog breed was presented to the clinical facility with signals of apathy, hyporexia, cough and dyspnea. After emergency treatment with oxygen therapy to stabilize the respiratory condition, imaging tests (radiography, Doppler echocardiography) were performed, confirming the suspicion of cardiogenic pulmonary edema due to left heart disease. The treatment of cardiac dysfunction was recommended through the use of pimobendan, which has a positive inotropic effect on the heart, and benzepril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. These drugs are important to control pulmonary vascular pressure, reducing the risk of developing pulmonary edema. Even though it is a veterinary clinical emergency, cardiogenic pulmonary edema when treated immediately and correctly tends to present a favorable prognosis in affected dogs.

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzyme is naturally present in raw milk which is used as a prominent indicator to determine proper pasteurization in milk. However, determination of ALP activity in milk either time-consuming or required sophisticated instrument facilities that are uncommon in India's rural dairy or collection centers. Present test is based on the ALP reaction with p-nitrophenyl phosphate to release p-nitrophenol and inorganic phosphate in the presence of water. When p-nitrophenol reacts with a certain chromogen, the strip's colour changes from purple to grey, which may be seen with the naked eye. This strip has a nine-month shelf life at room temperature.

The research was carried out in the Congalla district between April and September 2018 and focused on analyzing the production and economic profitability of trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) farming by the local market. The production areas, profitability, supply, demand and forms of consumption were determined; in local and regional market; As a primary source of information, it was obtained through interviews with trout producers, traders and consumers in (Congalla-Angaraes) in the main markets of each province, likewise; Secondary information was collected, such as historical production of the last 10 years, quantity of production, and yield per well. Leptin, an adipocyte-derived cytokine (adipokine), has plethora of physiological roles in the body, particularly in onset of puberty, reproduction and immune function of an animal. Leptin binds with leptin receptor (LEPR) and activates different intracellular signaling pathways to activate downstream gene expression process to execute its functions. The present mini-review focuses on our current understanding about the immunomodulatory and immunodiagnostic potential of leptin in domestic mammalian species. This warrants future research efforts to explore its immunological role that can be exploited for augmenting immunological protection of livestock.

Cats are popular pets worldwide, and many owners are concerned about keeping their cats healthy and happy. However, many cat owners are unaware of the risks associated with using over-the-counter medications, which can lead to pet poisoning. Poisoning can occur when owners give their cats medications that have not been prescribed by a veterinarian or when prescribed medications are not administered correctly. Symptoms of poisoning in cats may include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, seizures, and even death. To prevent poisoning in cats, it is essential for owners to understand the importance of following veterinarian instructions when administering medications. Additionally, owners should be cautious when administering human medications to their cats, as many human medications are toxic to animals. Cat owners should also be aware of signs of poisoning in their pets and seek immediate medical help if they suspect their cat has ingested an inappropriate medication. Therefore, cat owners should be aware of the risks associated with using over-the-counter medications and take measures to prevent their pets from being poisoned. Medication administration for cats should only be done under the care of a veterinarian, and owners should always monitor their pets for signs of poisoning. In this sense, the objective was to construct a quick and scientific guide for consultation on the main toxic agents known to cause feline poisoning and indicate possible antidotes and treatments. To accomplish this goal, an integrative literature review was carried out, seeking important information for the toxicologist veterinarian in updated articles and books.

The incidence of lifestyle diseases such as inflammatory bowel diseases is increasing due to unhealthy eating habits and modern lifestyles, resulting in a growing demand for fermented foods worldwide due to their scientifically proven functional and nutritional attributes. Fermented foods are obtained by controlled microbial growth and enzymatic degradation of food constituents. These foods have a good amount of probiotic bacteria and bioactive peptides that benefit human health. Bioactive peptides are formed by either fermentation or enzymatic hydrolysis of food proteins. Fermented foods and beverages i.e., dahi, yogurt, kefir, kimchi, sourdough bread, pickles play a significant role in gut microbiota balance and mental health. Starter culture used in the fermentation of food products provide various health-promoting activities to fermented foods like anti-oxidant activity, anti-hypertensive activity, probiotic activity and improves protein digestibility. Several groups of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains produce Exopolysaccharides (EPS) such as and - glucans, galactans, fructans, and gluco- and fructo-oligosaccharides. EPS produced by LAB has a positive impact on gut health. In addition, probiotic bacteria have proven to be a beneficial ingredient for any gut disorder (inside or outside the GI tract). They regulate the level of immunoglobulins (IgA) and inflammatory cytokines and improve gut barrier activity. Symbiotic yogurt (made with bacterial strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum) helps raise high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and also changes the ratio of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) to HDL. Consumption of kefir inhibits the pathogen's action by the production of acids and bacteriocins. Isolation and pharmaceutical applications of health-promoting bioactive peptides from fermented foods have been emerging in dairy and food research areas.

The pulmonary hypertension in dogs is a progressive and serious disease, characterized by abnormal and persistent increase of pressure in pulmonary vasculature and pulmonary artery pressure (>25-30mmHg). Clinical signs of pulmonary hypertension are usually nonspecific and discrete, which leads to a delay in diagnosis. When signs are observed, they are related with the respiratory and cardiovascular tract, where the animal may present dyspnea, tachypnea, respiratory distress, syncope, cough and cyanosis. This case report describes a female dog with 12 year-old, Shih-Tzu breed that presented pulmonary hypertension associated with heart disease, infection and suspected of hyperadrenocorticism.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of ciprofibrate on serum triglyceride concentrations in canine patients. A sample size of 21 canines was study, that had a diagnosis of familial dyslipidemia, and was established with triglyceride levels above 500mg/dl, treatment with ciprofibrate was evaluated at 2 months. The analysis of the variation in triglyceride levels was performed using the non-parametric Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank test. The Wilcoxon test revealed that the triglyceride concentration decreased significantly after two months of treatment with ciprofibrate; from 621 (512 to 1046)mg/dL to 136 (67 to 215)mg/dL (p <0.0001). The difference in medians was -482.0md/dL with a 97.3% confidence interval of -579.0 to -443.0mg/dL. It was concluded that the use of drugs such as ciprofibrate in the treatment of patients with familial hiperlipidemia, had a significant decrease in serum triglyceride concentrations, without generating adverse reactions in this study.

The extravasation injuries are uncommon complications during the administration of intravenous therapy in the small animal veterinary clinic. However, the efflux of drugs with vesicant or irritant properties can cause severe and/or irreversible functional and aesthetic changes. The correct catheterization technique and vigilance during intravenous administration of drugs with vesicant or irritant properties are fundamental in preventing the appearance of iatrogenic injuries. The therapeutic approach to this iatrogenic complication involves the combination of non-pharmacological, pharmacological, and surgical measures. In small animal veterinary medicine, there are no uniform recommendations about the best strategy could be adopted, and the interventions described in the literature lack evidence of effectiveness based on scientific studies.

The purpose of this study was to find the feeding preferences of Odontotermes obesus termites on different types of commercial timbers along with the evaluation of different timbers and their resistance and non- resistance behavior under lab and field conditions at 100ºC. There were six wood species which were evaluated regarding attack and damage which include Azadirachta indica (Neem), Eucalyptus globulus (Safaida), Ficus religiosa (Peeple), Mangifera indica (Aamb), Dalbergia sisso (Taali or Sheesham), Acacia arabia (Keekar). Two weeks’ laboratory and 3 months of field trials were performed with suitable conditions. The samples of every six wood species were prepared and exposed to different species of termites by burying them in the active nests of termites. This practical was performed at Wagah border 30 km away from Lahore. After this time, the factors which were to be noted were wood mass loss and visual appearance of each sample. This also includes a choice and no choice feeding test. This trial is made to evaluate the nonresistance of wood to termite attack. After trials have been made, it has been noted that the most palatable wood is M. indica, F. relgiosa and A. indica and the most resistance woods are is A. arabica, E. globulus and D. sisso in no choice trials and in choice trials the most palatable wood is M. indica and most resistance wood is D. sisso and A. arabica.
