Fatalities or cardiovascular side effects of vaccines were rather uncommon in the past. So far, numerous reports of side effects and deaths associated with Covid-19 vaccination have been accepted behind the background of the pandemic situation and the priority vaccinated elderly population at the beginning of the vaqccination campaign. Cardiac and heart circulatory disturbances resp. cardiovascular side effects associated with the application of Covid-19 vaccines have not been recognized up to now with the exception of thrombotic/embolic side effects and cases of myo-/pericarditis. But the mechanism of action suggests that downregulation of ACE2 by non-neutralised spike proteins may have cardiovascular effects. The objective of this analysis was to determine the total number of reported adverse events and fatalities and to record suspected important cardiovascular adverse events up to the cut-off date in European countries. Therefore, a current review/analysis of spontaneously reported fatalities as well as of adverse events after application of Covid-19 vaccines has been performed. Data were retrieved from the EudraVigilance web reports of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), partly also from the safety reports of the German PEI. Covid-19 vaccine-associated suspected side effects and related deaths are alarming. Surprisingly, numerous cardiovascular reactions were reported, many of which were life-threatening. Cardiac and heart circulatory caused fatalities alone accounted for about 33% of all ComirnatyR vaccine-related deaths. The second most important side effects were vascular thrombotic/embolic side effects, often also associated with serious consequences. Based on their quality and quantity, these side effects seem to be characteristic for spike-producing vaccines and do not appear to be substance-specific. Further investigations are needed to clarify the approximately 3.5 times more frequent cases of sinus vein thrombosis and the some different frequent cases of thrombotic/embolic events after VaxzevriaR. The hypothesis could be confirmed. Because of their importance and their sometimes life-threatening consequences, cardiovascular side effects need to be better communicated.Limitations of the investigation result from the individual reporting and recording procedure, the lack of detailed individual information and the lack of an appropriate comparison population.

TCF7L2 (rs7903146) as one of the most significant single nucleotide polymorphism, is one of the associated genes with type 2 diabetes. This case-control study was performed on the whole blood of 87 patients with type 2 diabetes and 45 healthy people. Selenium and zinc concentrations in whole blood were measured using flameless atomic-absorption spectrometry. The genotype of TCF7L2 was achieved by real-time PCR and high-resolution melt (HRM). In order to data analyzing, the t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used. The difference of zinc levels and also selenium levels in whole blood for both healthy (Zinc: 164.75 μgr dL-1, selenium: 140.71 μgr L-1) and patients (Zinc: 136.77 μgr dL-1, selenium: 111.66 μgr L-1) groups was significant (P-value <0.05). The different levels of zinc and selenium in healthy genotype group (TT, CT, CC) and type 2 diabetic patient genotype (TT, CT, CC) group was also significant (P-value <0.05). The presence of the T allele as a risk factor led to reducing zinc levels in healthy subjects. Significant reduction in zinc in the diabetic CT versus healthy CC and in diabetic TT versus healthy CT can be considered as a result of the T allele risk. Amount of selenium in TT genotype in both control group and diabetic patients was reduced.

Snakebite is not common during pregnancy, but the obstetric consequences are severe and associated with the severity of envenomation. Early stages of pregnancy and treatment delay are risk factors for the poor prognosis. A 20-year-old pregnant woman in 16 weeks of the first pregnancy referred to Zabol Amir Hospital on August 13, 2015, with the history of snakebite on the right foot. Intravenous fluid, 2 units of packed cells and 4 units of fresh frozen plasma (FFP) were administered, however, the coagulopathy and hematuria remained. Polyvalent anti-snakebite serum was injected. At first, 3 vials (30 mg) were injected and due to lack of improvement, four extra doses (40 mg) of polyvalent anti-snakebite serum were administered; then, at the 5th day she was discharged with a good general condition. The follow up was performed on a regular basis including periodic examination, PT and PTT check. Snakebite during pregnancy can lead to a dangerous condition for the mother and fetus. However, early treatment with polyvalent anti-snake serum and appropriate management improved the outcome of snakebite in pregnancy

One of the problems in cancer pharmaceutical treatment is development of drugs that not only have minimum complication, but are also prepared from natural compounds. Marine algae with antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antioxidative and anticancer potentials are one of the natural resources in this field. The source of Gracilaria corticata which a red alga is different sea coasts in the world including coasts in countries of India, China, Persian Gulf countries, etc. In this research, antioxidant activity and anticancer potential of aqueous extract from Gracilaria corticata against three kinds of human cancer cell lines, human gastric adenocarcinoma (AGS), human colon cancer (RKO) and human hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) were studied. Various concentration of algal extract were employed for cell treatment. In addition, extract cytotoxicity was measured using Methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay in 540nm. The results showed that 9μg μl-1 of algal extract had the highest effectiveness against HepG2, RKO and AGS with 74%, 69% and 68% cytotoxicity effects respectively. 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS) antioxidant assay was used to determine the probable antioxidant activity of this algae. Samples were prepared according to kit instruction and treated by different concentration of algal extract. Next, free radical scavenging activity of extracts was compared with measuring of the absorbency of the samples at 405nm using spectrophotometer. Descending order of the cell lines which had affected antioxidant activity of upper concentration of algal extract was as follows: HepG2, RKO and AGS respectively and the most effective concentration of algal extract that had the highest antioxidant efficacy on selected cancer cell lines was 9 μg μl-1. The water crude extract of Gracilaria corticata had significant antioxidant and anticancer effect and it could be a good option for more studies for creating a compound with natural origin as an anticancer agent that can be employed for the development of potential anticancer medicine and new pharmaceutical endeavors.

Hordeum spontaneum, which is one of the most important and troublesome annual weeds in crop fields around the world, causes extensive losses every year. The purpose of this study was to screen phytopathogenic fungi for biological control of this weed. For this purpose, firstly, 150 fungi were isolated from different soils in Iran. Thirty fungal strains were selected by consideration of their herbicidal activities against mature wild barley leaves. Common wheat was used as a negative control in all experiments. Finally, 6 strains showed necrosis lesions on wild barley leaves without any effects on wheat (control). The best result was achieved by Hcr99 isolate. Based on microscopic and Internal transcribed spacer-PCR (ITS-PCR) analysis, Hcr99 displayed 100% phylogenetically similarity to Pestalotiopsis vismiae (P. vismiae). 1×107 conidia/ml of P. vismiae showed the most suppression effect on weed seeds germination and rhizoid extension. Inoculum concentration of 1×106 and 1×107 conidia/ml provided significant results of weed controlling in greenhouse experiments. Host range study indicated that P. vismiae could induce disease symptoms in 4 weed plant species out of a total of 24 species belonging to 9 families.

Patient-physician communication is an essential part of clinical practice that if it works well, it creates a therapeutic effect for patients. We aimed to evaluate and investigate if gender, age, grade, marriage and specialized field affected empathy scores among trainees, interns and resident physicians. A cross-sectional survey was performed among a total of 215 medical students in practical stage and resident physicians in Iran/Arak University of Medical Sciences responded to the Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy (JSPE) questionnaire over 6 months in 2016. In addition, the participants were anonymously monitored to assess actual empathy levels. 215 participants completed the JSPE questionnaire (mean age 27 ± 5.2 years, 94 43.7%] males). Analysis showed that students had lower mean empathy score (mean= 98.08) than other countries. Results confirmed that there is an association between empathy and gender and marriage (p<0.05).Females and married students showed higher levels of empathy than other participants. The empathy of participants in an observation condition was much lower than what they had stated. In our survey, medical students had significantly low empathy level; therefore cultural education and professionalism training is needed. Although treatment is more important than empathy, empathy has a therapeutic effect for patients.

Lactobacillus plantarum A7 was previously considered in some in vivo studies as a beneficial microorganism. This study deals with characterization of this strain based on general in vitro tests and its clear identification through molecular technique. A subtractive screening process was carried out on 26 lactobacillus strains. Based on tolerance to acid and bile and antibacterial activity against some pathogens, L. plantarum A7 ranked as one of the designated strains and further examined by some tests for probiotic properties like cell surface hydrophobicity, exopolysaccharide (EPS) production and adhesion to glass slides. In addition, antibiotic resistance and hemolytic activity were assessed for safety aspects. Molecular identification of this strain was performed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), using primers 16 and 23-10c for genus level and planF and pREV for species. L. A7 revealed tolerance to acidic and bile containing environment against tested pathogen. Regarding the cell surface properties, this strain was compatible to commercial probiotic strains posing 53.6a±4 and 72.07% ± 8.79 cell surface hydrophobicity towards toluene and adhesion to glass slid, respectively. This strain meets natural lactobacilli resistance to Vancomycin and lacks transferable resistant to Erythromycin and Cloramphenicol. In order to sequencing the PCR product, it was deposited in the GenBank database as L. plantarum KC355240. The results of this study could be considered as an accomplishing information to what was documented before on this strain with regard to its probiotic potential and it could be recommended to researchers, national and international organizations with high margin of safety.
