Individual trajectory traces of different lengths often amount to hundreds or thousands of trajectory points distributed over continuous spatial space. This makes fast trajectory pattern mining very challenging. For road network constrained trajectories like vehicle trajectories, mapping raw trajectory points to road links is a natural calibration procedure that can greatly alleviate the complexity of subsequent pattern mining. However, road map is generally proprietary and imposes limitations on commercial applications. Although a variety of map inference approaches were proposed for the generation of general-purpose road map on the basis of trajectory traces, those procedures are generally too heavy to be applied in the calibration for trajectory pattern mining. In this paper, we propose the first lightweight approach to generate road network from trajectory traces in order to support trajectory pattern mining. The approach is composed of three steps: trajectory density map construction, a cell aggregation step and the final network links/nodes clustering. Only one input data scan and two iterations over trajectory dense areas are necessary during the whole progress. Equipped with the obtained road network, the mapping of trajectory points to road network elements is performed by simple spatial projection operations instead of map-matching process, the result of which supports an efficient trajectory pattern mining.

Crowdsourcing is a powerful tool for new product development; companies create online platforms where customers can contribute their own ideas to design tasks, often motivated by either a monetary prize or gaining social status. The phenomenon can help companies gain significant competitive advantage due to e.g. reduced R&D costs and increased customer satisfaction, but to be successful, crowdsourcing needs to be implemented efficiently. The crowdsourcing platform and the practices related to it need to be built to enable effective data management and evaluation. Fashion is a very promising area for crowdsourcing due to its rapidly evolving nature. Styles can change overnight, which means that brands need to rely more and more on the knowledge of their customers to be able to provide them with the newest trends. This article first provides an overview on current crowdsourcing practices and crowdsourcing platforms used by companies in general, and then discusses special requirements that the fashion industry sets for crowdsourcing practices and crowdsourcing platforms. At the end, the article presents a new model of crowdsourcing processes that are especially suitable for the fashion industry in the design phase of new fashion garments.

Traditional manufacturing researches are mainly focusing on one concrete technology application, such as production model, supplier management, advanced automatic equipments etc. Rapid developments and advances in information, manufacturing and management areas make the social environment of manufacturing change much. The global competition and multifarious customer demands are more and more universal phenomena. The difference and evolution in the advanced manufacturing systems need to be researched deeply. In addition, the relationships and functions among these social factors and the automatic manufacturing systems should be investigated in detail. Social manufacturing provides a new paradigm for the enterprises to capture the value. In this article, recent researches in social manufacturing are reviewed.

Innovation is changing the world every day by offering new technical solutions for the society, and the technology development powered by innovation has been changing the operation and structure of traditional manufacturing. Social manufacturing is the new trend of manufacturing development, especially in the field of apparel industry. Social manufacturing can create opportunities for customers to participate in the produce process of tailoring, and to make more personalizing clothes, which will also benefit for the related companies' brand making process. With the assistance of internet technology and industry globalization, we can establish several modes about the trend of social manufacturing and new related technology, social manufacturing can also prompt the international division of labor by reducing the producing costs and enlarging the market capacity, we will analyze the advance of Sino-Finland cooperation in the field of innovation and apparel industry, the international cooperation in manufacturing industry will benefit both customers and industry revolution with the assistance of social manufacturing.

Online medical community question answering (cQA) systems are playing important roles as a supplement of the traditional medical service systems. The answer recommendation service provides guidance to diagnose diseases and brings convenience and valuable reference to users. In this paper, we propose a method to recommend answer for particular questions on medical cQA system. There are three steps for the answer recommendation system, including similar cases retrieval, answers quality estimation and answer recommendation. The proposed algorithm is tested on a dataset collected from online medical community question answering system. The results show a good performance in answer recommendation.

Hazard and operability (HAZOP) methodology is an important Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) technique for ensuring safety production in chemical industry. Due to the lacks of accuracy and reliability in manual HAZOP analysis, the quantitative HAZOP analysis has gained more and more attention. In this work, a process simulation-based HAZOP analysis method and its flow chart are proposed. And the proposed method is applied to a steam generation subsystem in an ethylene pyrolysis unit on a dynamic process simulation platform. All deviation parameters of system can be calculated and described quantitatively. The case study shows the proposed method is useful for the effective risk prevention and control measures in a chemical process.

In this article, I would like to share my daughter's experience on self-STEAM education. In our daily life, she can always find problems and then dream them with her imagination, finally narrows down her solutions to solve problems in her own way. During these problem-solving processes, I noticed that she went through sciences, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics in a very natural way. So I would like to say, STEAM is the way we learn and grow ever since we were born. But later at school, we are trained in a way that subjects are completely disconnected. It might take time to change this situation at school, but at home, as parents, we need to realize that children can discover new things by themselves even from young ages, and provide rich learning environment for them and let them “STEAM” themselves in their own way.

GPS map matching is the process to align observed GPS positions with road networks of a digital map. One of the key technique in a state-of-art GPS map matching algorithm is to select candidates for each observed GPS point. Traditional candidate selection algorithms focus on spatial proximity, which is not sufficient in real cases. This paper proposes a novel candidate selection algorithm for GPS map matching, called Space Map Matching (SMM). The SMM constructs a mapping relationship between space and road links based on GPS shifting patterns and driver preferences. Therefore, candidate selection is transformed from a spatial searching process into a mapping relationship looking-up process. Experiments on real datasets prove that the candidate selection algorithm proposed in this paper can outperform traditional algorithms in both accuracy and efficiency.

In this paper, a combined forecasting method is proposed and applied to traffic volume prediction of 24 hours in advance, called long-term prediction. The combined forecasting model includes two important modules, Kalman filtering module and Markov chains prediction module. Kalman filtering is an optimal estimator which is widely used to eliminate the random errors. This paper mainly uses Kalman filtering to filter the noisy data of traffic volume and reduce the impact of noisy data for a prediction model. Markov chains prediction module can give the forecasting results based on the filtered data. And the forecasting result of traffic volume is a region enclosed by an upper curve and a lower curve. According to the error analysis, the effectiveness of the combined forecasting model is verified. Therefore, the forecasting region can be taken as an important foundation for urban road planning, design and management.
