This paper shows how the capacity credit of wind power in Korea-Jeju. As more wind capacity is added in the nation, the question of wind's capacity credit(effective of capacity or capacity value) is raised. This paper introduces methodologies for Korea-Jeju, and it provides seasonal rates of the capacity credit of wind power plant. So, this paper provides a good reference to establish the Korea power supply master plan.

This paper proposes a new method for extracting features of electricity price in power markets The proposed method is based on SAX(Symbolic Aggregation Approximation) of time-series data conversation. Under the deregulated and competitive power markets, it is important to extract the features of electricity price. To understand the complexity of electricity price behavior, this paper proposes a stream mining method with SAX that transforms the data into a symbol of alphabet. It is useful for efficient dimensionality reduction of time series and distance measures. The proposed method classifies time-series data into clusters with symbolic representation, and extracts the features from each cluster. The technique clarifies complicated data in a simply way of symbol representation. The effectiveness of proposed method is demonstrated for real market data of PJM.

This paper proposes a novel method for distribution network loss minimization in distribution networks. The proposed method makes use of parallel meta-heuristics under PC cluster environment The liberalization of power networks with distributed generation makes distribution networks more complicated. To compete with other players, saving cost is of main concern. In this paper, a unified method is proposed to minimize the network loss with both network reconfiguration and capacitor control The formulation may be expressed as a combinatorial optimization problem. In this paper, parallel meta-heuristic method is proposed to solve the problem. The proposed method evaluates the solution with the PC cluster system. The proposed method is tested in sample systems.

This paper investigates the variations of wind power in Korea-Jeju and discusses the amount of reserve needed to handle unpredicted short-term variations. Construction of wind power plant has been rapidly increased since Korea-Jeju is known as the most suitable for wind power plants in Korea. But implementing wind power generation inevitably introduces new challenges due to its intermittent nature. In the paper, it is introduced the present and prospect of wind plant construction in Jeju. And it provides an indication of the variability of wind power plant and discussed the reserve of conventional power station for wind power fluctuation in Korea-Jeju power system. So, this paper proposes the way of secure operating in Korea-Jeju power network.

Selection of custom power device for sags and interruptions mitigation has been a challenge in the utility and customer for many years. It usually depends on technical and economic characteristics of the device. Nevertheless, most mitigation method is selected by rule of thumb or empirical method. In this paper, the life cycle cost analysis is performed using either the deterministic or probabilistic approach. The difference between a deterministic and a probabilistic cost analysis approach is illustrated with five different case studies. The probabilistic cost analysis approach using Monte Carlo simulation which is powerful for iterative process provides comprehensive and alternative results.

The West African Power Pool is currently developing the regional electricity market for its member states. As the basic design for the cross-border power trading system for the West African Power Pool, the step-by-step evolution, the Baseline System and the Fullscale System, is estimated. Along with the interconnection project between member countries, the various functions from the data acquisition and processing by the Baseline System to the interchange trading by the Fullscale System will be implemented gradually.

This paper examines the scheme of risk-based contingency analysis for transmission and substation planning. Compared to the traditional approach, in which system reliability is assessed by deterministic ‘n−1’ contingency criteria, the present method can capture the 'risk' concepts consisting of two parameters; 1) the likelihood that some events will happen and 2) the consequences if they do. The key method of this paper is to evaluate the risk considering the event probability such as two transmission lines failure and substation failure, and event consequences such as the amount of load shedding. The presented risk evaluation procedure can provide a single dimension index like 'probability−1 × consequence' representing a contingency severity level. Furthermore it can be a vehicle to perform the probabilistic contingency analysis for transmission and substation planning.

Function and role of electricity meter is changing significantly along with IT technology development. In North America and Europe area, especially, and major electric power companies in the world, demand for mechanical electricity meter is decreasing while electronic electricity meter implementation is continually increasing. Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), a Korean electric power company, started full scale introducing electronic electricity meter from 2000. Most of the high voltage electricity meters have been changed with electronic type electricity meter. Mechanical electricity meters work as major part in low voltage currently, but these are expected to be changed with the electronic type electricity meter near future. In relation with this situation, future electricity meter operation and maintenance will be focused to electronic type. This study introduce infrastructure construction for the quality improvement of electricity meters, performance analysis for expired meters based on available period, and investigate possibility of extending its lifetime.

The group technology, which leads battery cell combined in series-parallel ways scientifically, is the basis of large scale application of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Especially for VRB, as it holds a unique structure of hydraulic interconnection pipe system, the combination of electrical connection and hydraulic connection should be more challenging to the group technology. On the basis of experimental study of Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRB), the reliability, efficiency and economic analysis of battery group technology are discussed from the viewpoint of engineering application in this paper.

Nash equilibrium is an important decision-making result for all players in non-cooperation game, problems of cooperation and competition between power generation group in strategic futures contracts market and the spot market is investigated based on power transmission network constraints. We consider the Cournot game theoretic model to simulate competition between power generation groups, moreover, electricity futures and spot market of the joint non-inferior Nash equilibrium model is established. This model is a multi-layer optimization model. By using the nonlinear complementary function to reformulate the KKT system for the optimization problem, the non-inferior Nash equilibrium of power spot market is solved simply and fast. Corresponding to different operational conditions of power network, i.e., congestion and non-congestion, the non-inferior Nash equilibrium of electricity futures and spot market is analyzed and compared with different market parameters.
