Reduction potentials for twenty-three beta-substituted free base porphyrins are reported, along with substituent partial potentials and correlations are made with porphyrin basicity and reactivity.

The yields of 53.3-d 7Be and 280-yr 32Si from the thermal-neutron fission of 235U have been investigated. Upper limits of 2 · 10−10% and 1.2 · 10−10% have been set for the fission yields of 7Be and 32Si, respectively. The yields of these isotopes are lower by 4 to 5 orders of magnitude than indicated from results of instrumental measurements.
The electrochemical oxidation of gallium or cobalt in the presence of CH3CN + (C6H5)3P + HX (X Cl, Br, I) yields, in a single step, the (C6H5)3PH+ salts of Ga2X62− (X Cl, Br, I) or CoCl42− in good crystalline form. X-ray crystallogrpahic studies gave the bond lengths and angles of the cation, and confirmed the presence of the Ga2X62− anion for XCl or I. Vibrational spectra provide diagnostic criteria for distinguishing (C6H5)3PH+ from ligated (C6H5)3P.
