Every person should be able to access water since it is one of the most fundamental needs for maintaining life. The process, referred to as renewable energy-based desalination, is gaining more importance over other desalination methods since it looks to be a promising technology for low-cost desalination that can support sustainable growth. This is particularly important because energy consumption is much higher in other water purification processes. This paper describes the enhanced yield and competence through experiments performed on two different modified conditions in solar still. For experimentation, a 1m2 area of the basin is fabricated in which a stepped absorber is installed over which corrugated fins are attached. The G.I. sheet is used as a material to manufacture it. The vacuum tube of 55mm outer diameter, 45 mm inner diameter and 1800mm long is used. The experimentation is performed to evaluate the cumulative yield and competence in Case-1, i.e., the inclined solar still with corrugated fins and stepped absorber. In Case-2, the same configuration is combined with vacuum tubes. From experimentation, the cumulative yield obtained for Case:2 is 4.7 kg/m 2 per day, which is higher than that obtained for Case:1, i.e., 3.82 kg/m 2 per day. The solar efficiency was also determined to be 46.72% in Case-2 and 39.98% in Case-1. This indicates that the combined configuration of solar still with vacuum tubes produced 23.0% higher fresh output than the configuration without vacuum tubes. According to these findings, the functionality of the solar still has seen substantial development in Case-2. Overall, the results demonstrate that using vacuum tubes with inclined solar still having stepped absorber and corrugated fin configuration can significantly improve its productivity and efficiency .

A tremendous number of solar tracking systems are available in the market, no design however offers a fully autonomous operation that could track the sun with no prior information about the location, or the season. The proposed paper presents a design, development and control of dual-axes solar tracking systems. The tracking system consists of two DC-motor for two different axes, the incidence and declination angles, and a set of solar sensors. This employed set of sensors is used to acquire the required data to compute the optimum zenith and azimuth angles. The advantage of the proposed that it can be used anywhere with no information needed regarding latitude nor longitude coordinates. The experimental results show a significant improving, like 76%, of performance obtained using dual axes tracking system compared with the fixed horizontal surfaces in the summer in Jordan, and 41% in winter.

Optimized MPPT for Aero-generator System built on Autonomous Squirrel Cage Generators Using Feed-Forward Neural Network

The research on Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques for wind turbine installation (WTI) is an ongoing effort to improve the output power of wind systems. AI-based controllers, particularly Neural network controllers, are becoming popular choices for capturing maximum power from wind generators. However, obtaining accurate data for training and fine-tuning the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model remains a significant challenge in establishing effective MPPT methods. Our study proposes a novel approach using feed-forward function neural networks (FF-NN) for MPPT in WTI based on Autonomous Squirrel Cage Generators (ASCGs). Our study contributes to the advancement of MPPT techniques in the wind energy industry by presenting a comprehensive comparative analysis of various MPPT techniques, including VSS-P&O, VSS-INC, OTC, GA, and GWO. The FF-NN approach maximizes MPPT by regulating the duty cycle and accurately tracking the maximum power point (MPP) without requiring knowledge of wind turbine power characteristics. The results of our simulations in the MATLAB/Simulink environment show that the FF-NN method performs better under diverse loads and environmental disturbances, sustains the ASCG's voltage build-up under severe loads, and has high responsiveness to noisy wind speeds. Moreover, our study highlights the improved performance metrics of using FF-NN, such as its lower complexity, easy maintenance, and better MPP tracking accuracy compared to the other MPPT techniques. The proposed approach using FF-NN is a novel and comprehensive solution that adds to the existing body of knowledge in the field of wind energy by presenting a new perspective for MPPT techniques in ASCG-based WTI.

Exploring of Biomass Energy Specific to Turkey and on a Global Scale
Q4 ENERGY & FUELS Pub Date : 2023-01-01 DOI: 10.20508/ijrer.v13i3.14085.g8790
In this study, the potential of biomass energy in Turkey and on a global scale, production and usage amounts, the status of biomass power plants, current problems, the importance of forest-based biomass energy in terms of renewable energy and successful country examples in forest and energy relations are examined in detail. Especially the biomass energy potential of the Central Anatolia region of Turkey is over 8 billion kWh. However, annual bioethanol and biodiesel production amounts are low in Turkey. Moss with high energy density is an important biomass energy source candidate for Turkey, which is surrounded by seas on three sides. New factories to be established in the southeastern part of the Marmara region, which has a high biomass energy potential, should be established in regions with low energy potential. Contrary to EU countries, heat generation from urban waste has started in Turkey since 2015. Therefore, the waste collection approach should be expanded. As in the example of UK, the importance of determining the necessary incentives in Turkey's energy crop cultivation has been demonstrated. Within the scope of forestry activities in Turkey, 25% of the forest-derived material remains in the forest. In this study, the importance of converting this material into biogas or evaluating it as wood pellets was emphasized. This study will make a positive contribution to the increase of domestic production in Turkey, to provide cheaper energy supply, to reduce dependency on foreign countries in energy demand, to increase employment, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint.

ANN-Robust Backstepping MPPT Based on High Gain Observer for Photovoltaic System
Q4 ENERGY & FUELS Pub Date : 2023-01-01 DOI: 10.20508/ijrer.v13i3.14190.g8804
A hybrid MPPT technique has been proposed in this paper for a standalone photovoltaic (PV) system. This technique is composed of two performant controllers, the first one, which is an intelligent method based on the Artificial Neural Network (ANN), is trained to rapidly estimate the optimum voltage under different changes of meteorological conditions, while the second one, that is the robust backstepping controller, is conceived to track the optimum voltage by offering high robustness against disturbances as well as the desired tracking criteria. To minimize the PV system cost, the required sensors’ number, their measurement error and the system complexity, a high gain observer (HGO) has been proposed and applied to estimate the state variables of the system by observing the boost inductor current, the PV voltage and the load voltage basing only on data provided by the control law and the PV current and voltage. The studied PV system was simulated in MATLAB/Simulink to verify its efficiency and robustness even under severe and different weather conditions.
