In this work one new algorithm is proposed, for Adaptive Hierarchical Transform (AHT) of groups (sequences) of correlated images, based on the famous method Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The groups of correlated images exist in many practical cases. These are, for example, the components (spectrum bands) of the multispectral images, the sequences of the computer tomography images, video sequences from surveillance TV cameras with fixed spatial position, video information from TV microscopes, etc. The new Hierarchical Transform is reversible. It results in high decorrelation of the processed groups of images and ensures high power concentration in the former in the group, called “eigen”. The decorrelation, achieved through the AHT is close in efficiency to the “classic” PCA, but has lower computational complexity. Besides, the structure of the AHT algorithm is extremely suitable for parallel processing. In the paper are also given some experimental results for the algorithm modeling, applied on sequences of CT images. The computational complexity of the AHT algorithm is compared with this of the classic PCA.

In view to support decisions for the best routing protocol for specific applications of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), a comparative analysis is provided in relevant simulated scalable scenarios. Simulated and tested routing protocols in WSN are pro-active DSDV and reactive AODV, DSR and AOMDV protocols. Parameters as throughput, end to end delay, network's life, time of finding the routes, number of packets received, percentage of receiving and normalized routing load are measured and monitored and a set of design decision are recommended.

In this paper, a very efficient approach to extend the frequency range over which the allpass-based digital Hilbert transformers phase difference is kept near constant and to reduce the deviation of the phase from 90° in a limited wordlength environment is proposed. This approach is based on minimization of the phase sensitivity of each individual allpass section in the cascade realization of the two branches of the parallel allpass structure, depending on their transfer function pole positions. The new results are verified by examples and experiments.

The paper proposes a precise analytical method for finding the explicit expression for the characteristic function of filters applicable to the design of double terminated ladder LC filter and RC active filters. Recently introduced new class of continual filter function generated by the extremal Christoffel-Darboux formula for the orthogonal Gegenbauer polynomials has two parameters, the filter order, n, and the real free parameter, ν. In this paper, a detailed analysis of attenuation in the bandwidth and insertion loss around the stop-band cut-off frequency, ωcs, is carried out using 3D plots on the example of the filter function of the 13-th order.

In this work, a stepped-impedance stub-loaded resonator which exhibits tri-mode behaviour is presented. The proposed resonator is analyzed in detail and used to design a compact tri-band bandpass filter which operates at 1.8/3.5/5.2 GHz. The fabricated filter exhibits good selectivity, good transmission and return-loss characteristics, and a compact size of only 0.21λg × 0.11λg, where λg denotes the guided wavelength on the given substrate at the central frequency of the first passband.

As a solution to limited bandwidth and high energy consumption of information infrastructure as well as heterogeneity of optical networks, a hybrid multidimensional coded modulation scheme is proposed employing all available electrical and optical degrees of freedom. Electrical basis functions are based on either modified orthogonal polynomials or prolate spheroidal wave functions, while optical ones on polarization and spatial mode states. The proposed scheme is both multi-Tb/s and beyond 100 Tb/s enabling technology. Additionally, the proposed scheme provides the adaptive, software-defined, and dynamic allocation of bandwidth with fine granularity. Finally, the proposed scheme significantly outperforms the conventional polarization-division multiplexed QAM.

Recently, Selva et al. presented a novel implementation form for interpolation filter as an alternative approach to polynomial-based interpolation filters and Farrow structure. The Selva's interpolator has been used for design and implementation of fractional delay filters. The filter has been designed using an approximate prolate window. However, the frequency response of the filter has not been analyzed. In this contribution, we analyze the frequency response of Selva's interpolator and we compare it to the Farrow structure. Finally, we show that Selva's interpolator can have very selective frequency domain performance, and thus it can be effectively used in some DSP applications.

This paper gives a brief survey of information theoretic results on fault-tolerant memory systems. The main focus is on Taylor-Kuznetsov memory architecture which has been shown to achieve nonzero computational capacity. A new approach for analyzing fault-tolerant memories that takes into account gate failure correlation is also presented. The analysis was done by modelling gate failures by Markov chain.

H.264 is one of the first video coding standard incorporating coding formats with a bit-depth of above 8 bits. This paper presents the results of compression comparison tests for the H.264 “High 422” profile, between 10-bit and 8-bit sample depths. The simulations were run on five 720p and 1080i high definition sequences. PSNR and SSIM metrics were used to evaluate the objective quality performance of both bit-depths, and with the aim of enabling a fair comparison, both metrics were computed with 10-bit precision, up-scaling the 8-bit decoded sequences to 10-bits. Some works have been published in this field based on the evaluation of commercial 10-bit H.264 implementations. In this work, we carry out a neutral evaluation of H.264 standard performance using the official H.264 Reference Software. Unlike the expected 10-bit coding gains, the results show unnoticeable differences between both sample depths in terms of objective quality, lower 0.1dB for PSNR and 0.002 for SSIM, with a 5% bit rate saving that can be achieved for the luminance component, especially for the 720p format, and negligible quality improvement for U and V chroma components.

Given that digital billboards are a relatively new phenomenon in Belgrade, we aimed to examine how its citizens really perceive them, as well as to reveal their attitudes towards digital billboards. The results showed that the length of exposure to advertising content has a crucial influence on their perception.
