In this paper we present a method for calculation of minimal energy parameters in packet transmission using lookup table. The parameters are transmission power and packet length. The proposed solution depends on careful selection of transmission energy points to be pre-calculated to achieve accuracy greater than 99.9%. This way, energy minimum can be found almost instantaneous with as little as 7700B of memory space usage. From the perspective of wireless sensor network nodes, methods utilizing lookup tables can reduce time needed for obtaining solution considerably, compared to numerical methods, since it is faster to locate data in table than to calculate it, especially when complex calculations are required.

We present a remarkably simple exact analytical solution for the electromagnetic field distribution across an infinite metamaterial composite with an arbitrary graded variation of complex effective permittivity and permeability for the case of constant impedance across the structure. Arbitrary temporal dispersion and losses are allowed and the model is generally applicable to different inhomogeneous and anisotropic media simultaneously containing positive and negative refractive index constituents, as long as the effective medium approximation remains valid. The analytical solution is validated by a dispersive numerical model of lossy metamaterials that uses a transmission line matrix method based on Z-transforms, where a close agreement between the analytic and numerical results is obtained.

Hybrid boundary element method (HBEM), developed at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering of Niš, is used to determine characteristic parameters of a covered coupled microstrip lines with ground planes of finite width. This method is based on the combination of equivalent electrodes method (EEM) and boundary element method (BEM). All results for the characteristic impedance of observed microstrip line are compared with corresponding ones obtained by the finite element method. Even and odd modes are taken into account.

In this paper the companding quantizer design using the approximative spline functions of the first and the second degree is done. The spline function of the first degree and the second degree is used for the approximation of the optimal compressor function. In order to reduce realization complexity of the designed model, in this paper it is proposed that the optimal compressor function in different segments is approximated by different spline functions, which means that the approximation of the optimal compressor function is done by combining the spline function of the first degree and the second degree. Comprehensive analysis of the results obtained for the proposed companding quantizer for the number of segments 2L = 4 i 2L = 8 is done.

In this paper, we consider multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems based on multichannel beamforming (MB). We first consider capacity of the wireless communication systems for different modulation techniques and decision rules, and its extension for the open-loop and closed-loop MIMO systems. Eigenchannel power allocation and joint turbo coding and adaptive modulation are considered as a promising link adaptation techniques that should maximize achievable throughputs in considered MIMO systems.

In this paper we present tight approximations of the outage probability (OP) for the entire signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) range of practical interest for an amplify and forward (AF) relaying system with channel state information (CSI) at the relay and destination, which employs multiple antennas at the nodes and orthogonal space-time block coding (OSTBC) transmission over a flat Rayleigh fading. In the AF relay, the incoming signal is decoupled, amplified and forwarded to the destination. The results for the outage probability obtained by the approximations are compared with exact results of the outage probability obtained by numeric inversion of the Laplace transform of the Moment Generating Function (MGF) and with the results obtained by the Monte Carlo simulations. The comparison shows close matching of the results.

Service delivery in a heterogeneous wireless environment requires the selection of an optimal access network. In order for users to be always connected through the optimal available network, it is necessary to develop an adequate technique for its selection. This paper deals with network selection concept as a perspective approach to the always best connected and served paradigm in heterogeneous wireless environment. It provides a survey on fundamental aspects of network selection process and mainly focuses on decision making mechanisms. After presenting the related standards, the perspective vertical handover approaches from the open literature are analyzed and compared. The paper concludes with a case study related to the influence of traffic conditions on network selection, which reveals the advantages of the always best connected and served concept.

In this paper we propose a compact tri-mode asymmetric resonator that consists of a single-mode and a dual-mode resonator. The behaviour of the proposed configuration is analyzed in detail. To demonstrate the potential of the proposed resonator, tri-band bandpass filter operating at 2.4/3.5/5.2 GHz has been designed, fabricated and measured. The filter is characterized by good performances and very compact size of only 0.24λg × 0.115λg.

Detection of precipitation based on the received signal level of commercial microwave links has been increasingly used in the mountain areas where meteorological radars have limited ranges, and placing rain gauges is impossible due to terrain morphology. In this paper, focused time-delay neural networks were trained and tested, to detect the appearance of precipitation based on the data of the link received signal level. For training and testing the networks the results of the detection of precipitation using one of the previously proposed methods have been used. After choosing the network with the best characteristics for the final model, the detailed testing was done with the data obtained on the same link, which were not used for model development. The results show that the proposed method based on neural networks can be efficiently used instead of the previously proposed method (significantly shorter time of the data processing was achieved by using a neural networks).
