To explain how to use VRML in virtual city construction, the authors review main characteristics of virtual city, assess a number of effective programming languages applied on the Web 3D, discuss the basic functions of VRML and the basic frame of virtual world based on VRML, give an application instance of virtual city scene and show a lot of experiences. In the case study,Cortona VRML Client plug-in can be used to display the virtual city, and the roaming can be realized at any angle and in any way by clicking mouse. At last the authors summarize that VRML is the most hopeful language currently to becoming the basic frame of constructing virtual city.

Training a support vector machine (SVM) on a large-scale sample set is a challenging problem. This paper proposes a sample reduction strategy to pretreat training samples which is realized by a two step procedure: instance reduction and attribute reduction, and the classification model of the SVM is also offered. The experimental results show that the proposed reduction algorithm can effectively remove the nonsupport vector instances and nonessential attributes of the samples, consequently, the whole sample space is simplified and good results are obtained both in training speed and testing precision.

In this research, our aim is to increase the efficiency of individual visitors and the whole system by reducing traffic congestion in large-scale crowd’s activities. To achieve the goal, a route guidance mechanism with centralized information control (CIC) is proposed by granting priority to visitors using CIC. Through multi-agent simulation, we confirmed that the CIC mechanism was effective in improving the traffic efficiency of visitors and could avoid the phenomena of social dilemma in large-scale crowd’s activities at the same time.

Based on wavelet and principal component analysis(PCA), an effective shell texture feature of the coscinodiscus extraction method for classification is proposed in this paper.The feature extraction process involves a normalization of the given image with different sizes followed by shift invariant wavelet transform. The shift invariant feature is computed for subband of wavelet coefficients by PCA. The rate of recognition is calculated in the end. The experiments have proved the method is effective.

This paper considers a swarm model with a general attraction-repulsion function involving variable communication time lags and an attractant/repellent. It is proved that for Gaussian attractant/repellent profiles the individuals of the swarm with time delays will aggregate and form a cohesive cluster of finite size in a finite time. Moreover, all the swarm individuals will converge to more favorable areas of the gaussian attractant/repellent profiles under certain conditions in the presence of communication delays.

Supplier's quality not only influences manufacture enterprise's achievement, but also determines the successful operation of entire supply chain. How to choose supplier scientifically and efficiently, and make stout supply chain system, have become a key point for the manufacture enterprise's decision-making day after day. Some methods have been proposed to select supplier such as neural network and genetic algorithm. These methods are affected by the quantity of supplier’s attributes. This paper proposes a cooperation mechanism among seller agents and builds a model based on multi-agent system. In the model, a manger agent has been set to watch activities of other agents. It will encourage the cooperative sellers and punish the non-cooperative seller agents by adjust the seller’s reputation in the repository. With this mechanism, a seller would complete the trade with the buyer although he doesn't have enough items and the stock of the seller need not too much. The model is simulated in a Multi-Agent simulation platform——JADE. The experimental results show that this cooperation mechanism widens the bound of cooperation among the sellers and saves the stock cost of the sellers.

In order to reduce error following the improper model chosen to forecast the exchange rate by means of the traditional statistics, the continuous time Markov process is applied to forecast the short time exchange rate, which can describe the frequently fluctuation of exchange rate accurately. Time interval between two state transitions is regarded as a stochastic variable. By the aid of the transition rate matrix, the model is established, and it is sloved by the Laplace transform. This proposed method is easy to collect data and calculate the result, and it is effective to detect the state transition. Example shows that when the model is applied to forecast the short-time exchange rate, the forecasted exchange rates have a good agreement with the actual values.
