This paper summarizes a current doctoral thesis aiming to analyse the possibilities of applying concepts inspired by traditionalism in the education of 21st century architects, and the theoretical preparation for its implementation in architectural training. The aim is to highlight the theoretical basis supporting the thesis proposal for a studio of traditionalism, which would offer theoretical and practical courses, promote interdisciplinary cooperations, and provide a specific space for this.

ABSTRACT: The Earthen Space workshop for students of FA BUT took place in the autumn of 2020 and included a review of the teaching concept for students of architecture’s work with earth within the faculty project. This article describes the course and the content of the workshop, analyses the creation and teaching procedures from the perspective of the organisers and creators of the concept, and records the results of the project. It also assesses the potential of practical experience with earthen building material in the education of architects.

The focus is on the evaluation of the exterior and a correlation with its function and the suitability of the investment. The respondent group is composed of professionals and laymen. The area of Jeseníky has a rich history, but its continuity was disrupted during the 20th century. Traces of „landscape memory“ can be found in the form of small sacral architecture, historical paths, trees and border stones. This paper verifies the possibility of using GIS to track it, and transform fragments of urbanised countryside into new educational and sports trails. The aim is to provide a better understanding of the fragile relationship between landscape and urban areas in the region and its history.

Throughout history, the concept of the urbanist points to the figure of an almighty, authoritative planner who creates spaces. The ambition of a perfect design is met by random external factors, which fundamentally affect the final results. Thus, another component of the active approach of individuals or movements enters the creation. The application of ecological, mobility, cultural and social topics creates a contrast to the technocratic planning of cities and landscapes. This article broadly presents cases of an active approach to urbanism and reflects the holistic profession of an urbanist in a contemporary context.

New Ruralism represents an effort to extend the familiar principles of New Urbanism to non-urban areas with an emphasis on farmland protection. Various sources dealing with New Ruralism (mainly from the North American context) were analyzed using the desk research method. The regulatory and economic instruments of land development were described in detail. Using the example of New Ruralism, it was shown that economic instruments can appropriately complement standard landuse planning instruments even in the case of rural and agricultural planning. This finding can be an inspiration for rural planning in our environment.

Zoltán Egri (born 1894) belonged to the group of interwar Jewish architects in Brno. Almost all of them studied at the German Technical University in Brno and were active mainly in the 1930s, focusing primarily on a Jewish clientele. Egri specialized in interior design and shopfronts. Some of them were destroyed or rebuilt, others preserved. In my paper, I will discuss not only his particular designs but also general specifics of his work and often-used materials.

Digital platforms have already expanded their reach over a broad range of urban services and cemented themselves at the core of urban life by capitalising on their vast troves of data, all of which has allowed them to enter partnerships with city administrations and thereby claim ownership of more and more urban space. Considering the increasing entwine-ment of the digital realm with physical space, facilitated by platform urbanism, the Internet of Things and advance-ments in immersive technologies, this paper recognises and discusses the importance of key democratic features requi-red to tackle urban challenges in a context-specific way, and to protect urban space from platform monopolies – open data utilisation and user participation. The purpose of this paper is to provide new views on the detrimental nature of digital platforms’ urban interventions, as well as to address these issues in the context of the new, spatial or augmented era of the internet – Web 3.0.

ABSTRACT: This paper deals with the role and responsibility of the architect in the sustainable design of buildings in their lifelong cycle: in construction, operation, modernisation, and removal. The aim is to analyse and define requirements for the architect’s activities in the design stages. The paper discusses the demands and methods of integrated design, digitisation and robotics in the construction industry, and the use of BIM. The starting point is design practice and international requirements for the complex evaluation of buildings.
