A Mathematical Study on Weight Balancing in 2D Meshes and It's Application to Engineering Problems 二维网格重量平衡的数学研究及其在工程问题中的应用

When we load boxes into a container, weight balancing is often considered. It is also important when we stowage containers in a ship. We have found that it is easier to balance the weight in certain types of 2D mesh configuration. In this paper, we have mathematically defined the weight balance in m × n mesh configuration (m and n are all odd numbers), and proved that the weight balance can be found at any number of items. Our theorem can be used to devise an algorithm for balancing the weight of the container vessels or loading the cargo on the train.

Wireless Text Entry and Mouse System for the Handicapped 残疾人无线文本输入和鼠标系统

Text entry system can be found commonly in modern computer and mobile devices such as smartphone and tablet. However, most of these systems are not easily operable by the handicapped; the system either has small area size of each key or requires major hand movement, such as in the case of the common "QWERTY" keyboard that contains over a hundred keys. All of these present systems are less than ideal for the handicapped to use as input device. In this paper, a new wireless text entry system is proposed to help the handicapped people to input text efficiently with minimum hand movement. From the design of the prototype, it is smaller than the traditional keyboard, portable, lightweight, user friendly, and long operating hours with built-in mouse function. Practically, it is tested and proven that only one hand is needed to hold the equipment and one finger to interact as well as to input the text. The algorithm used is: Press-Drag-Release algorithm, namely the user just need to presses on the infrared board, followed by finger dragging around the board for letter selection, and lastly, releasing of finger for input the letter. From the result of experiments, the proposed system was tested and proven portable (7.5cm × 5.5cm × 5.5cm), lightweight (100 grams excluding battery), user-friendly with many built-in functions (Esc, Copy, Cut, Paste, Ctrl-A, and Mouse), and long operating hours (29.4 hours operating time with 10,000 mAH battery). For Words Per Minute (WPM), the experiment shows that it can achieve as high as 5 to 10 WPM depends on the skillfulness of the user.

WHEGSTR: A Multiterrain Robot with C-Shaped Whegs, Implementation of Error Minimization Technique and using Artifical Neural Network (ANN) 多地形c形车轮机器人WHEGSTR,误差最小化技术的实现及人工神经网络(ANN)

Designing a multi-terrain robot, WHEGSTR, a six-legged robot with mental movements. It will be an astute hexapod robot with complaint whegs, which will rotate full circle, avoiding the common problem of toe stubbing in the protraction (swing) phase. With its intrinsic mobility, WHEGSTR will have the ability to adapt according to the terrain and will maintain its balance using algorithms based on differential equations. Due to its rigid body and strong build, the robot can withstand impacts without compromising performance. It will also transmit live broadcast of the surrounding area. Moreover, it will give a continuous feedback about the physical conditions i.e. temperature, pressure, humidity, etc. of the nearby area. It climbs in rock fields, mud, sand, vegetation, railroad tracks, slopes and stairways [1]. This robot is going to be a breakthrough in the industry of robotics due to its compact size, rigidness and ability to move across different terrains.

A Novel Self Organizing Feature Map for Uncertain Data 一种新的不确定数据自组织特征映射

In real-world applications, sometimes there are uncertainties in the data set whether from the collection process or from the natural language. There are not many algorithms that can deal with this kind of data set. Therefore, in this paper, we develop a linguistic self-organizing feature map (LSOFM) that works with vectors of fuzzy numbers. The algorithm is an extension of the regular self-organizing feature map (SOFM). We found that the results from the LSOFM are similar to that from the SOFM. The results from the LSOFM can provide information that contains all the uncertainties from the input while the SOFM cannot.

Smart Street Light System Powered by Footsteps 脚步驱动的智能路灯系统

Currently, enormous amount of electrical power is being used by street lights, which remain switched ON throughout the night. This causes a huge wastage of electrical power across the whole world and it should be minimized. The main purpose of implementing automatic street lights is that lights will switch ON with full intensity only when there are vehicles or pedestrians on the road and remain off otherwise. The street lights can be powered by the electrical energy generated through the pressure applied by footsteps and vehicles. So we don't need to provide power to the street lights separately. The automatic street light system comprises of DC lights, lux meter, PIR sensors, piezoelectric sensors, LDR and ultrasonic sensor. Our main purpose is to make such a street light system in which intensity of street lights increases when a car comes closer to it and decreases when it moves away from the light pole.

Low Power Wearable Device with GPS and Indoor Positioning System 具有GPS和室内定位系统的低功耗可穿戴设备

Until today, positioning system plays an important role in our daily life. As our technology advances, there are many technologies depending on Positioning System. Positioning System not only improving the navigation system that we used on road, but also support games, application, advertisement and so on. Global positioning system, or GPS in short is one of the commonly used positioning systems around the world. However, GPS alone isn't sufficient to carry out positioning system. The aim of this project is to build a low power consumption global positioning system with indoor positioning system. The first part of this project is to build a global positioning system with low power consumption. The GPS module will be powered by a rechargeable battery. Therefore, it is very important to use a low power consumption microcontroller and module to ensure the duration of usage is enough. Second part is to build an indoor positioning system. In order to maintain low power consumption characteristic, only gyroscope sensor and some other low power consumption module to calculate distance traveled, by using approximate calculation, position of the user will be estimated.

Specializing K Nearest Neighbor for Content Based Segmentation of News Article by Graph Similarity Metric 基于图相似度度量的新闻文章内容分割的K近邻特殊化

This research is concerned with the graph based KNN version as a text segmentation tool. The text segmentation is mapped into a binary classification where each paragraph pair is classified into boundary or continuance, and the graph is known as the visualized text representations. In this research, we encode the paragraph pairs which are generated from full texts into graphs, define the similarity between graphs, and modify the KNN algorithm by replacing the existing similarity metric by the proposed one for the text segmentation task. The proposed version is empirically validated as the better one in segmenting news articles. It needs to classify an entire text into its corresponding domain before carrying out the text segmentation.

Validation of Graph Based K Nearest Neighbor for Summarizing News Articles 基于K近邻图的新闻文章摘要验证

This research proposes the text summarization tool based on a machine learning algorithm which is the modified KNN version which classifies a graph into summary or non-summary. The motivations of this research are the three facts: one fact is that a graph is a visualize representation of data items, another fact is that various similarity metrics among graphs are defined and the other is that the text summarization is able to be viewed into a classification task which a machine algorithm is applicable. The proposed system partitions a text into paragraphs, encode them into graphs in each of which vertices are words and edges are semantic relations between words, and applies the modified KNN version to the text summarization. The proposed approach is empirically validated as the better one, in summarizing news articles domain by domain. We need to consider the domain granularity and pre-classification of each full text into a domain for implementing the text summarization systems.

Multiuser Interference Mitigation using CSK in Indoor Visible Light Communications 基于CSK的室内可见光通信多用户干扰抑制

In this paper, we present a novel multiuser indoor visible light communication (VLC) system based on code shift keying (CSK) modulation. The proposed CSK scheme employs M signaling waveforms each obtained from the circular shift of a single fundamental PN code. In this proposed scheme, the performance is investigated in the presence of jamming and/or interference from other users. In addition, the system performance of CSK is compared with traditional on-off keying (OOK) based system. The simulation results show that the proposed CSK is more reliable than OOK in multiuser systems.

Analysis on Inter-Relay Interference in Chirp-Based Two-Path Successive Relaying Protocol 基于啁啾的双径连续中继协议中继间干扰分析

A two-path successive relaying (TPSR) protocol may cause inter-relay interference (IRI) due to simultaneous transmission between the relays. In this paper, we consider multiple linear chirps which can adjust cross-correlation coefficient (CCC) according to separating bandwidth, and propose an interrelay CCC (IR-CCC) concept to mitigate the IRI effect. From simulation results, we conclude that the proposed method can mitigate the IRI of the TPSR protocol and improve transmission performance.
