Objective : To evaluate the experience of caries and tooth loss in rural citrus workers in Northeast Brazil. Methods : This was a cross-sectional, quantitative, and descriptive study carried out using a non-probabilistic sample of rural citrus workers linked to the Occupational Health Reference Center. Generalist and dental questionnaires were applied and clinical examinations were performed by two calibrated examiners on 619 participants in Basic Health Units to establish the sample DMFT index and to detail their characteristics of interest. Results: The sample was predominantly male (71%), with young adults between 20 and 40 years (50,9%), with low education (76%) and low income (59,3%). The mean DMFT index of the sample was 14.29 and the component regarding tooth loss (M) 9.97, corresponding to approximately 70% of this value. Moreover, 90,1% of the evaluated participants had losses of at least one dental element and 27,8% had a functional loss with less than 21 teeth in the oral cavity, while 86.3% said they had never attended an oral health service. Of the participants who have already attended, 83,6% were over six months ago, motivated by pain (43,8%) and caries (14,7%). Conclusions : The rural citrus workers evaluated had negative experiences with dental caries and a high rate of functional tooth loss, leading them vulnerable to stomatognathic system imbalances and showing the need for prevention and promotion of oral health.

Objetctive : This experimental study aimed to assess the preference of Gambusia affinis to mosquito larvae of An.gambiae s.s., Cx. quinquefasciatus and Aedes aegypti. Method : Three Gambusia affinis were introduced in a glass container with a dimension of 45cm x 25cmx 25cm. Three larvae densities were used, 90 (30 larvae per species), 120 (40 larvae per species), and 180 (60 larvae per species). Each density experiment was set in triplicate and monitored after 1, 2, 3, and 24 hours. No fish food was added to the container for larvae. Results : Results have shown that in all times A. aegypti has been the most preferred species by Gambusia affinis. Among the tested species, A. aegypti was most prayed with time and in different densities. In mixed models including density, species, and time there was no significant difference among the species predation. Conclusion : Preliminary results have shown that the appropriate choice of predators for each mosquito species can have a great impact on bio-control to substantially complement existing tools.

Methods: It is a cross-sectional study with 428 users attended Basic Health Units, in Arapiraca, Alagoas, Brazil. Sociodemographic, behavioral variables, and cytopathological reports were collected. Molecular detection of the HPV virus was performed by Nested-PCR. Statistical analysis was conducted with SPSS version 22.0. Results: A total of 428 women were studied, HPV DNA detected in 39.2% (n = 168), with a mean age of 41 years old. There was an association of HPV with use of oral contraceptives (p <0.016) and alcoholism (p <0.038). It was showed a higher frequency of positive HPV in women older than 25 years old (88.7%), up to 5 sexual partners (93.4%), up to 3 pregnancies (71.4%), and with the cytopathologic results within the limits of normality (61.9%). HPV was identified in 40.3% (104/258) of the women with results within the limits of normality. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the use of oral contraceptives and alcoholism may be considered as possible risk factors related to cervical oncogenesis. With this, it is necessary to propose interventions aimed at the health education of this population, actions of prevention, and early detection.
