Pharmaceutical is essential for modern human society, however when they are released into the environment, they may harm non-target organisms. This study investigates the potential of antilipidemic to exert biological effects on aquatic organisms by determining the risk of antilipidemic to algae, fish, and invertebrates. Predicted Environmental Concentrations (PECs) were determined from fractional excretion and emission from wastewater treatment of antilipidemic which was obtained from numerous trusted sources. The Risk Quotient (RQ) was defined from PEC/ PNEC (Predicted No Effect Concentration). The study shows that gemfibrozil has the highest PEC, followed by simvastatin, rosuvastatin, lovastatin, atorvastatin, pravastatin, fenofibrate, cholestyramine and ciprofibrate. However, based on the risk assessment, all the antilipidemic drugs obtained a value of RQ < 0.01 which indicates the antilipidemic has a significantly low risk towards aquatic organisms in Malaysia.

Honey bees in beekeeping are commonly involved in honey production and as planned pollinators worldwide. However, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the hardworking little creatures suffered many difficulties. The entire supply chain was blocked. Consequently, the challenges directly affected honey and crop production worldwide. The pandemic issues like travel restrictions and limited access to apiaries had a detrimental influence on beekeepers’ activity. Earlier sales decline during the crisis had an economic impact, with some beneficial impacts, like a rise in demand for health-related goods. However, the challenges come with opportunities, which lead to a pointy surge in demand for honey which paved the way for many women entrepreneurs as beekeepers to meet the local demands, which helps the rural economy to be sustained. Another intriguing benefit is that a drastic drop in pollution helped bees get back to their normal routine, which led to a drastic increase in honey production during the pandemic as opposed to what they experienced in normal times. This article briefly outlines such challenges faced by the beekeepers and the honey producers and also focuses on the new opportunities that rendered many values to the producers during the pandemic.

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the batch culture phytoremediation model conducted in a 30 L bucket with sand and gravel as a substrate in reducing pollutants from post-harvest catfish farming ponds. This true experimental study used a completely randomised design with the treatments of hydromacrophytes of emergent, floating, submerged, and polycultures of the three hydromacrophytes and controls without hydromacrophytes. Each treatment was repeated three times. The effectiveness of this model was monitored using physicochemical water parameters, Chironomidae density, and the biotic index of diatom [Trophic Diatom Index (TDI) and Percentage of Pollution Tolerant Value (%PTV)]. After incubation, monitoring was done on days 10, 15, 20, and 25. The results showed that the phytoremediation process had successfully reduced the suspended solid and nitrate levels in the water starting from day ten after incubation. The levels of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN) decreased significantly after 25 days. The level of organic matter pollution based on the %PTV and density of Chironomidae was significantly reduced after 15 days of incubation. However, the phosphate level was still high, and the water trophic status was hypereutrophic. The most effective treatment for the phytoremediation process in this study is submerged hydromacrophytes.

Given the significant amount of food waste generated by households, reducing household food waste is critical to mitigating overall food waste and providing multifaceted benefits for humans and the environment. This study attempts to identify antecedents of food waste among lower-middle-class families in the Malaysian household setting and their barriers to sustainable food waste practices. Fifteen individuals from lower-middleclass Malaysian households were selected by convenience and snowball sampling and were interviewed using semi-structured questions. Four categories of food waste antecedents were identified (over-preparing, over-buying, dietary transition, and improper storage). The findings also led to the development of four themes that defined the barriers participants faced to minimising food waste (inadequate regulations and policy, lack of time, lack of education and awareness on food wastage, and lack of appropriate facilities). The findings from this study have important sociocultural implications for future studies, and they also add to our current understanding and application of how to reduce food waste in Malaysian households. More study is needed to find ways to test new ideas and interventions that could reduce household food waste, especially in Malaysia.

Road accidents have become one of the major problems globally. It was reported that the total number of road accidents in Malaysia has increased by 0.92% within the last ten years. Modelling road accident occurrences is critical for policymakers to understand the trend and pattern of road accidents to provide an appropriate countermeasure. This study attempts to forecast the road accident occurrences on federal and state roads in Selangor, Malaysia. This study utilised monthly road accident data from January 2011 to December 2021. The traditional univariate Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models were employed and the performance of each model was assessed. The findings found that the ANN model outperformed the SARIMA model in training and validation. Furthermore, the ANN model has the lowest RMSE, MAE, MAPE and MASE values for both sets. This study demonstrates the potential of machine learning in forecasting and predicting road accident occurrences, giving more flexibility and assumption-free methodology.

Studies on sustainable development in Indonesia’s palm oil industry hardly focus on local communities. This study aimed to examine the indicators of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) principles and criteria in a sustainability model. It was conducted in Gane Dalam, Jibubu, and Yamli villages in South Halmahera District, North Maluku Province using a sample of 200 respondents. Data were analysed using Structural Equation Modelling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). SDG indicators were found to have a positive and significant effect on ISPO. These indicators include poverty alleviation, food security, gender equality, income, the processing industry, infrastructure, and conflict resolution. Other indicators include company consistency, overlapping interests, efficient natural resource use, land rehabilitation and conservation, and animal protection. Additionally, the sustainable development model moves from the social to environmental development pillar, impacting Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil standards and criteria.

Hospices operating in the non-profit sector are experiencing organisational sustainability pressures, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, while the population of patients who are terminally ill and requiring palliative care is increasing, the resources required to render this noble service are depleting, so much so that some hospices have closed. The situation raises profound organisational sustainability concerns, and this serves as the motivation for this generic qualitative study to investigate the propellers of organisational sustainability in South African-based hospices operating in the non-profit sector. Data was collected through interviews with twelve senior managers from different hospice organisations. The data was then analysed using Thematic Content Analysis (TCA). Subsequent results reveal that a cocktail of factors, including transparent communication, visionary leadership, a strategic disposition, improved service quality, a strong corporate culture, a diversified revenue base and committed staff, propel organisational sustainability among hospices. Conversely, the COVID-19 pandemicenforced lockdowns and the rampant emergence of many NPOs impede the sustainability prospects of the hospices. With these insights, this study contributes to the organisational sustainability discourse from a uniquely South African perspective, given the dearth of research in this area, particularly in the context of developing economies.

Electrical Home Appliances (EHA) are necessary for modern life. Some of these items are costly. Customer needs cognitive decision before purchasing. COVID-19 and its impact on humanity are disastrous and devastating (lockdown, social distance, joblessness, low/no income, death, and long health crisis). Like other businesses, EHA purchases and their usage have been affected. The study investigated customer satisfaction and the repurchase intention of EHA. The study was conducted in Malaysia and data were collected from 400 Malaysians using structured questions through social media and emails. Collected data were analysed with PLS-SEM (SmartPLSv.3). The study found that product quality, customer perceived value, and social media usage were significant with customer satisfaction and customer satisfaction and fear of the pandemic were also influential on repurchase intention. Besides, customer satisfaction is mediated fully with repurchase intention. Moreover, the contributory part is to investigate the moderating effect of fear of the pandemic on the relationship between satisfaction and repurchase intention was significant. Fear of the pandemic was a successful exogenous and interaction construct. The study used two prominent theories to support the framework and the relationships: Stimulus Organism Response theory and Perceived Risk Theory were successfully buttressed by current findings. These findings were very insightful for practitioners and knowledge-builders.

This study aims to identify how far the cholera pandemic in the State of Kedah influenced the British in dealing with the pandemic from 1907 to 1940. The cholera pandemic in Malaya posed a threat to public health and economic viability. Kedah faced a severe spread of cholera, which caused Alor Setar to be declared an unhealthy city in Malaya in the 20th century. The authorities performed various efforts and actions to curb the spread of cholera in Kedah throughout the period stated. This study is a historical study that utilises the qualitative and quantitative methods fully. Resources and materials were obtained from the National Archives of Malaysia, National Archives of Malaysia Kedah/ Perlis Branch, National Library of Malaysia, Kedah State Public Library, Chief Minister of Kedah Office, Public Higher Education Institution Libraries throughout Malaysia, etc. Until today, studies relating to the cholera pandemic in Malaya are lacking overall among researchers, even though through historical experiences, the pandemic shows that the spread of the disease has long occurred and relates to the health threat today. This study addresses historical experiences as references to enhance the nation’s policies and health security. The results indicate that the Kedah government had successfully controlled the spread of cholera in the state within the specified period. The state government was also responsible for ensuring public health issues in Kedah could be solved to produce a better life.

The agricultural sector plays a crucial role in ensuring national food security. Sustainable agriculture can be a major contributor towards this end, as well as towards future national development. However, the success of digital agriculture initiatives depends on farmers’ technological literacy. Farmer regeneration and human resources are among the major challenges faced by farmers in Indonesia. This study aims to analyse farmers’ knowledge, behaviour and preferences for adoptinf technology, such as soil fertiliser technology, water-saving irrigation technology, green technology, and digital marketing technology. This study employs a quantitative approach using Warp-PLS 6.0 structural equation model method. The results indicate that farmers currently prefer to adopt green technology and digital marketing technology, as they are reinforced by bother farmer knowledge and behaviour. However, farmers’ preferences for adopting soil fertiliser technology and water-saving technology are only influenced by their knowledge and not their behaviour.
