Motivated by the recent acoustically driven spin resonance studies applied to silicon vacancy centers in silicon carbide, we theoretically investigate the spin–strain interaction characterized by the defect spin-3/2 quadrupole components coupled to strain fields. Considering the C3v symmetry of the vacancy site beyond the spherical approximation, we clarify the effect of a deviation from the spherical symmetry on spin resonance transition rate, which can be changed by rotating a static magnetic field. The ratios of spin–strain coupling parameters can be evaluated from the anisotropic field-direction dependence of the transition rate using a standing or traveling surface acoustic wave. We also discuss the effect of the propagation direction of the acoustic wave tilted from the crystallographic mirror plane reflecting the C3v symmetry. The results presented here reveal the quadrupole properties inherent in spin-3/2 states and will promote the realization of the acoustically driven strain control of spin.

We have investigated band structure of chiral IrGe4 by means of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and band structure calculation. The band structure calculation predicts Kramers–Weyl degeneracy at the time reversal invariant momentum points. Although IrGe4 does not have a well-defined cleavage plane, we could observe momentum-dependent ARPES intensity modulations by ARPES. The ARPES intensity near the Fermi level was enhanced around the M and K points where the Ge 4p bands are located at about 0.3 eV below the Fermi level both in the calculation and in the experiment. Although the overall band dispersion of the Ge 4p and Ir 5d bands agrees with the calculation, surface states between the Kramers–Weyl points are not clearly observed probably due to roughness of the fractured surface.

This study investigated the magnetic field (H) dependence of thermal conductivity (κ) in type I (Pb) and type II (Nb) superconductors. The κ of Nb displayed hysteresis, showing a local minimum during increasing H process but not during decreasing H process. Different magnetic field dependencies were observed in Pb with varying purity: κ of 3N-Pb exhibited broad hysteresis, while that of 5N-Pb showed hysteresis similar to 3N-Nb.

A strongly correlated insulator, samarium mono-sulfide (SmS), presents not only the pressure-induced insulator-to-metal transition (IMT) with the color change from black to golden-yellow but also current-induced IMT (CIMT) with negative resistance. To clarify the origin of the CIMT of SmS, the electronic structure change has been investigated by optical reflectivity and angle-integrated photoelectron spectra by applying an electric current. At lower temperatures than about 100 K, where the nonlinear V–I curve has been observed, the carrier density rapidly increases, accompanied by decreasing relaxation time of carriers with increasing current. Then, the direct gap size increases, and the mean valence changes from Sm2+-dominant SmS to the mixed-valent one with increasing current. These results suggest that the CIMT originates from increasing the Sm 4f-5d hybridization intensity induced by the applied current.

In this study, we investigated the spectral functions of quasi-one-dimensional electronic systems realized in metallic fullerene polymers theoretically. We applied the multichannel bosonization method to the electronic band structures derived from two different atomic models of fullerene polymers. Both the obtained analytical formulation and numerical calculations revealed significant differences between the two models in the energy dependence of the spectral functions, despite the slight difference in their atomic arrangement. These results indicate that the precise atomic arrangement of synthesized fullerene polymers can be determined using spectral function data obtained by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy.

Vestibular dysfunction in children and adolescents has recently gained tremendous attention, with more child-friendly investigations and rehabilitation protocols emerging.Reports have shown that children with vestibular impairment tend to develop speech and language acquisition delay, fine and gross motor delay, which in the long-termresults in an overall poor quality of life. In an extreme situation, vestibular dysfunction can lead to dissociative syndromes such as depersonalisation/derealisation symptomsthat occur following a mismatch between the vestibular signals and other sensory inputs, which may, in turn, lead to suicidal thoughts and behaviour 1. Whilst measuresto incorporate vestibular assessment as a part of routine practice in paediatric patients have been carried out in most centres, pediatric vestibular medicine appears to beunfathomed in some parts of the world, notably the South-East Asian region.

Momentum-dependent local ansatz (MLA) wavefunction approach to correlated electrons in solids has been extended to the quasiparticle excited states on the basis of the Fermi liquid picture. The quasiparticle energy is derived from the MLA-base excited state wavefunction within the single-site approximation. The quasiparticle weight and quasiparticle energy have been calculated for the Hubbard model on the hypercubic lattice in infinite dimensions as well as the simple cubic lattice. By comparing the numerical results with the single-particle excitation spectra obtained by the Green function method, it is shown that the MLA excited wavefunctions describe well the quasiparticle states in the weak and intermediate Coulomb interaction regime in the high dimensional system.
