A framework for provisioning restful services on mobile devices 在移动设备上提供restful服务的框架

Web services that are accessible on mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets are a reality in today's age. Web services hosted on mobile devices consume valuable device resources such as battery power, connectivity to network, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) availability. In this context, a mobile client consumes web services provisioned by mobile devices, acting as service providers. The purpose of the research is to identify a framework that can possibly improve the efficiency, quality of services and discovery of provisioning web services on mobile devices. The framework considers battery life, message time and size, processing required, availability, reliability, scalability and the discovery of these Web accessible services. By using the framework that enables context-aware services, the efficiency and quality of services can be improved. Discovery of these services are improved by utilizing a hybrid model of both Mobile P2P and JmDNS.

The roles and needs of community health workers in developing countries: An exploratory case study in South Africa 发展中国家社区卫生工作者的作用和需要:南非探索性案例研究

Extending the reach of primary health care is important as it is both a human rights issue as well as a developmental necessity. Necessarily, the UN Millennium Development Goals and 2030 South African Development Plan afforded some appreciation to this. To achieve extended reach, Community Health Workers are being deployed within rural communities to provide assistive health care at the community level. However, there is insufficient knowledge about the Community Health Workers in terms of their roles, skills and technological capabilities in a South African context. This is a barrier to unlocking the possibilities that technologies such as mobile phones can offer to facilitate and support the daily functions of these Community Health Workers. This paper articulates the findings of an initial exploratory study that was conducted in two communities in South Africa with a view of contributing to the understanding of the roles, needs and technological capabilities of Community Health Workers. The study found that most Community Health Workers work as volunteers who provide primary health care services in the community without the skills required for diagnosis. If diagnosis is required the patients are referred to health care facilities. The study also discovered that most Community Health Workers have access to, and are familiar with the basic use of a mobile phone - this creates an opportunity to implement technologies that will assist these Community Health Workers in their daily activities and thereby making positive impact in primary health care.

Relative permittivity of the dielectric composite with small doping of conductive nanoparticles 掺杂少量导电纳米颗粒的介电复合材料的相对介电常数

We find and investigate the effect of an anomalous increase in the relative dielectric permittivity of a model composite dielectric consisting of a binder (paraffin) and a filler (100 nm particles of technical carbon). It is shown that the relative dielectric permittivity increases by more than 5 times compared with the estimated value for the mixture. The model was developed on the basis of the tendency of the conducting carbon nanoparticles to aggregate into electric dipoles preserving the anomalously large permittivity of the composite. It is shown that the effect depends on the preparation technology. If the melt solidification occurs under ultrasound vibrations the effect decreases by a factor of 3. The proposed model can be successfully used to develop space oriented composites because they should have enhanced conductivity combined with the low relative dielectric permittivity.

Prioritizing students' mobile centric information access needs: A case of postgraduate students 优先考虑学生以移动为中心的信息访问需求:以研究生为例

Students enrolled at Open and Distance Learning (ODL) institutions tend to combine study and work and to succeed they have to optimize free time for studying. Therefore, many ODL students access and interact with information in a mobile context, which implies that interaction takes place in dynamic and changing environments. This presents students with a number of overlapping contextual challenges that need to be managed when accessing and interacting with information. Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) are also confronted by these challenges as they strive to provide access through technologies that are accessible, usable, scalable and sustainable to students. Against this background, it is important to have an understanding of the categories of information that students would want to access and interact with through the devices that they privately own, of which mobile phones are the most common. This study investigated the categories of information that students would want to access through mobile cellular phones. The data capturing involved both qualitative and quantitative data. In order to get a comprehensive and representative set of information access needs it was necessary to start with open-ended questions. Based on the analysis of the 50 responses to the open-ended questions, fixed-response questions were formulated. The 84 responses to the fixed-response questions were then analyzed to determine the importance of the information access needs as well as the access frequency. The contribution of this paper is a set of prioritized information needs that provide some insight into the mobile centric information needs of students at the University of South Africa (UNISA) as an example of an ODL institution.

Integrating explicit problem-solving teaching into activemath, an intelligent tutoring system 将明确的问题解决教学融入activemath智能辅导系统

Intelligent tutoring systems are now a part of industrial and education learning systems designed with reasonable adaptation ability to the learner's or user's background and progressive achievement. Because of the various advantages of these systems attempts are made to incorporate problem solving skill impartation abilities for learners. This has been necessitated by the transition, in the past few decades, from an industrial to an information society. This change has brought the need for a new set of skills in the workplace, including the ability to solve problems. This paper describes an adapted version of ActiveMath, which explicitly teaches problem solving to students using the House Model framework. Results show the technique does contribute to improving the problem solving skills of learners.

Guiding principles for adopting and promoting enterprise 2.0 collaboration technologies 采用和推广企业2.0协作技术的指导原则

Enterprise 2.0 collaboration technologies offer enterprises a significant amount of benefits and opportunities, such as improved communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation. However, enterprises are still facing a number of challenges in promoting and sustaining end-user adoption of these technologies. The purpose of this paper is therefore to present the results of an in-depth study conducted to gain an understanding of the end-user adoption challenges experienced by enterprises when implementing Enterprise 2.0 collaboration technology toolsets within their specific environment. The study adopted a qualitative research approach by conducting an exploratory case study on a large South African information and communications technology (ICT) enterprise operating within the retail sector based in Johannesburg. The research results suggest that an effective Enterprise 2.0 collaboration toolset adoption strategy should incorporate at least ten (10) guiding principles with the primary focus on the strategic alignment and usage of a hybrid approach.

A critical review of ICT skills for higher education learners 对高等教育学习者的信息通信技术技能进行批判性审查

Possessing appropriate ICT skills has become necessary to meet the demands of the knowledge driven economies. Therefore, the transfer of those skills to Higher Education learners must be accomplished effectively. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the literature on computer-based ICT skills and the categorisation of those skills. This paper outlines the findings from literature towards determining how computer-based ICT skills have been documented, identified and categorised. Despite numerous authors' contributions, the consolidated categorisations of computer-based ICT skills have not been published. We outline the findings of a comprehensive literature analysis to chart the identified computer-based ICT skills and an initial categorisation into technical and nontechnical skills, each with their own sub-categories. The results are further deconstructed to present relationships between the skills and the categorisation.

Dynamic composition of portal interface for GUISET services GUISET服务的门户接口的动态组合

The increased usage of technology requires friendly and easily understandable user interfaces. In portals design, user interface is one of the critical components. Portal is a medium that Small Medium and Macro Enterprises (SMMEs) can use to advertise, grow exposure of their business and interact with their customers and community at large. This requires the portal interface to adapt to runtime changes because of the rapid update of services. This work addressed the issue of analysis of user request in order to have a clear understanding of the request. This is achievable by taking into considering the user history, preference and profile. This is realised by the design of architectural model called Dynamic User Interface (DUI) model which analyses the user request and also aggregate different components and present them as a single unit to the user. The DUI model was prototyped using Grid-based Utility Infrastructure for SMME-enabled Technology (GUISET) user interface as a use case. Experiments were conducted to compare DUI portal and Jetspeed-2 to test usability subjects. Usability was evaluated under four experiment variations: customization, adaptation after query, user satisfaction with response and portal performance. For each experiment, data was generated and presented for analysis. The results obtained show scalability and satisfaction of users with the adapted user interface on the fly.

Unicorn: A unified communication solution for marginalized communities 独角兽:面向边缘社区的统一通信解决方案

The convergence of previously distinct networks into an All-IP network has resulted in an increase in the number and diversity of devices, channels and communication networks available to users. This has increased the number communication options available and is evidenced by the number of different communication devices owned and services subscribed to. How-ever, this has created complexities that call for proper methods to manage these diverse and incompatible communication options. The objective of Unified Communication (UC) is to seamlessly integrate the disparate communication channels into a device independent platform that can easily be managed by users. Due its focus on a largely urban and highly connected market, UC has not benefited marginalized communities. This paper discusses the design and implementation of Unicorn, a UC solution for a middleware software platform called Teleweaver which was designed to support the development of services for marginalized communities. The solution integrates services from a telecommunication container called Mobicents. It seamlessly amalgamates voice, data and video onto one device independent unified platform easily accessible by users.

Topic modelling in the information warfare domain 信息战领域的主题建模

In this paper we provide context to Topic Modelling as an Information Warfare technique. Topic modelling is a technique that discovers latent topics in unstructured and unlabelled collection of documents. The topic structure can be searched for interesting and relevant topics. The objectives of this paper is to describe topic modelling, put it in context as a useful IW technique and illustrate its use with two examples. We discuss several applications of topic modelling in the safety and security domain and list several topic model variations that are of special interest to the IW domain.
