Development of a Quantitative Method for Evaluation of Skin Radiance and Its Relationship with Skin Surface Topography 皮肤亮度定量评价方法的发展及其与皮肤表面形貌的关系

Skin radiance is an important determinant of skin beauty that almost all women desire. However, the optical reflection characteristics that create the perception of skin radiance are not fully established. The skin properties associated with radiance have received little attention. The aim of this study is to examine the optical characteristics of skin radiance and its associations with other skin properties. We established a method for evaluating skin radiance by measuring the intensities of specular and diffuse reflection components and investigated their age dependence. The results indicated high levels of both specular and diffusion reflection in radiant skin. An age-dependent decrease and a slight increase of diffuse and specular reflection, respectively, were found in the group aged 60─79 years. We examined the number of ridges and surface roughness of corneocyte cells. High specular reflectance was associated with low numbers of the ridges and surface roughness values of corneocyte cells. Because well-conditioned skin shows high numbers of ridges, smoothing the corneocyte cell surface effectively enhances the specular skin reflection value.

Development of a Repair Technology for the Inside of Human Hair with Basic Amino Acids 利用碱性氨基酸修复人发内部的技术进展

The number of women who have trouble with hair protruding from the silhouette increases with aging. When we observed the protruding hair and the normal hair by Transmission Electron Microscope, there were gaps in the Cell Membrane Complex (CMC) of the protruding hair. Based on this result, we focused on CMC constituents and studied the effect of protrusion inhibition. Consequently, L-Histidine (L-His) and L-Arginine (L-Arg) had high effects, and we confirmed that the amount of these amino acids in the female hair decreased with aging. Then we developed a hair conditioner which could highly inhibit protrusion, by penetrating and retaining both amino acids inside the hair. It was found that Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate retained the amino acids inside the hair. Moreover, L-His and L-Arg, which were added to the conditioner formulations, were confirmed by stable isotope imaging to have penetrated inside the hair. According to this study, the hair-repair effect of L-His and L-Arg was obtained.
