In this paper, the design and implementation of a new type of band-stop filter having transmission zeros is presented. Detailed design aspects of 3 and 4 pole band-stop quasi-elliptic filters are discussed, where transmission zeroes are attained by a source-load cross coupling line. These filter topologies offers a sharp pass-band to stop-band transition due to the introduction of the pair of transmission zeros, compared to a conventional Chebyshev design.

In this paper we study the behavior of traffic in Metropolitan Optical Packet Switching Networks, using computer modeling and simulations. We analyze network performance and the impact of node failure compared with the impact of link failure and normal operation. Mesh topologies are chosen with node configurations (2×2, 3×3, and 4×4, input-output) and parameters packet loss fraction and average number of hops are adopted for performance metrics. We observe that node failure is only slightly more damaging than the more loaded link failures we have previously considered.

Maritime communications are still strongly carried out by conventional means of terrestrial links via radio using MF to VHF bands, mainly after the introduction of systematization of digital selective callings. However, a large number of the communication procedures still rely on manual intervention, thus reducing their effectiveness and giving origin to errors such as false distress callings. The system herein mentioned aims to automatically monitor those effective ship-to-shore communication links, speeding up the routing of selective calls in connection with an automatic control system of false alarm calls to improve the reliability of the Maritime Mobile Service.

This paper investigates the throughput performance of carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) with the desired signal modelled by the Rice distribution and the interference following the Hoyt distribution (in this paper denoted as combined Rice and Hoyt fading channel). The approach considered here assumes that the desired signal includes a dominant component and thus may be modelled using the Rice distribution. In addition, the Hoyt distribution is used for the interference signal since it is assumed that in this case no dominant signal is present and the variances of the in-phase and quadrature components of the received signal are different or correlated. Also, the approach considered includes the signal capture model with coherent and incoherent addition of interfering signals and uniform attenuation for all terminals (or perfect power control). The formulations derived here are exact and unprecedented in the literature.

This paper presents the results of the application of a FDTD technique to determinate the return loss parameter of two printed multi-band antennas. The impedance characterization of wide-band printed antennas with lossy substrates is introduced by means of an approach based on FDTD method and the WP-PML absorbing boundary condition. It was used a simple voltage source model where an excitation plane with an Gaussian vertical electrical field was imposed to a rectangular area just below the structure to be analyzed. Preliminary results obtained for the return loss of MIMO multi-band antennas are compared to those determined from other FDTD-based methods available in the scientific literature in order to show the applicability of the methodology that has been developed herein. The results obtained for return loss parameter showed good agreements between the technique proposed by this work and the results previous done.

This paper presents the performance analysis of energy detection over generalized fading channels, modeled by the η-μ distribution. Receiver operation characteristics are obtained under several different fading scenarios, including low, typical, and severe fading conditions, with combining both multipath clusters and non-homogeneous environments. In addition, the improvement in detection capability is evaluated when cooperative spectrum schemes are employed under η-μ fading channel. Comparisons are performed against Rayleigh model and a great flexibility is found in spectrum sensing techniques when their formulations consider the use of the η-μ fading model.

The present paper described a method of analysis that can be applied to these geometries, as well as related configurations. The paper presents a model of the antenna on which the simulation was conducted on the impact parameter on bandwidth. The influence of the changes of the value of these parameters of individual layers on the bandwidth was talked over. Paper shows the analysis of multilayer microstrip antennas process is very complex and time consuming and compare between calculation and measurements. One of the most important parameters which have been calculated is the bandwidth. The paper describes a clear advantage of multilayer antennas over monolayer ones, where the bandwidth is significantly narrower.

This work presents a experimental and analytical evaluation of Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) systems applied in Wi-Fi networks operating at 2.4 GHz. The performance metrics used were Packet Error Rate (PER), throughput and Relative Signal Strength Indication (RSSI). We used two different commercial RoF systems and verified the impact of each system on these networks. It was observed that Wi-Fi technology can be successfully applied with RoF technology to provide a remote employment up to 3 km from central office.
