Implementation of an electrical theory mobile learning course 电学理论移动学习课程的实现

In the last years several mobile learning courses have been experimented. The increasing popularity and additional features of mobile devices is one of the key reasons for that development. Some of the courses are adaptations and others are fully developed for mobile devices. The superior portability and accessibility of those equipments makes them suitable for interactive learning courses. This paper presents the mobile learning framework for an electrical theory course. The course is made of several interactive multimedia modules, at the end of which students have to answer several oriented questions. The chosen SMS format for the answers allows the teacher to keep track of the student's progress.

Content server for use in Power Electronics courses 用于电力电子课程的内容服务器

Information technologies are a helpful tool in the teacher-student interaction. Teachers can give support to students without the need for an 100% in person contact, which is needed in the context of Bologna paradigm. For many activities, no schedule match is needed, since students access to resources and send requests to teachers whenever they need. In this paper the work of two Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences undergraduate students is presented. It consists in the implementation of a web portal to be used as a tool for Power Electronics Lectures. This work is intended to be interdisciplinary, involving not only the requisites evaluation and specification of the site and its creation but also all the process of server installation, and server side software selection, installation and configuration. A Ubuntu Linux Server was set up, on which Apache web server was installed along with all other server software needed to support the site, such as MySQL and PHP, and software needed to remotely access the server, the SSH and FTP servers. The site itself was implemented using Drupal, which is a Content Management System.

This work presents a low-cost magnetic levitation system that can be very easily built by undergraduate or master degree students, in order to learn several control and electronics topics. The whole design process proposed in the classroom, and the resulting electronics circuits are described. Three different approaches to implement the control system are shown: analog, digital with microcontroller, and digital with FPGA.

Virtual laboratory for simulation and modeling systems in engineering degree: A sustainable approach 工程学位仿真与建模系统的虚拟实验室:一种可持续的方法

In this paper we discuss about the use of computer simulations for sustainable systems. Specifically, we propose laboratory practices for Automatic Control subjects where the plants are sustainable systems. The interest is the simulation of this kind of systems to forecast their behavior in order to control and actuate over them. In this paper, the use of a didactic material for laboratory practices is explained. This pedagogical resource is published in a web (http://model.upc.edu) where the student can find the practice statements, the explanations and the software to develop sustainable models in form of laboratory practices for the subjects related with simulation and modeling in different engineering degrees, because we have the belief that undergraduate students must receive an Education for the Sustainability independently of their career without to avoid learning the basic and specifically concepts of the own subject.

The paper explains the effectiveness of flexible learning methodology in engineering courses. This is an attempt to explore the traditional educational methods and to discuss the implications of flexible learning tools in engineering courses. It takes into account the latest application of Web 2.0 and other relevant techniques as well as components of delivery and material and resources needed. The content of this paper is part of ongoing research in engineering education and is a revised and expanded version of a lead paper [18].

A single board heater system to provide a hands-on capability to control system students is presented. Using this device, it is possible to carry out all experiments that one typically needs in a first control course. It is made accessible by enabling it to work with the free software Scilab. Results from a few experiments are listed. Remote access of this device using LabVIEW is also presented. The details and the logic of the design of this device is presented. Its design is released as open source and is also available for purchase at $50.

Guided independent learning package for advanced topics in electrical engineering, automation and control systems 指导独立学习包先进的主题在电气工程,自动化和控制系统

Ever more students start their master programme with a bachelor degree which does not provide the ideal background for their study. Such students benefit from dedicated help when they have to master advanced topics in automation, control and electrical engineering. Because individual help is adequate but too labour-intensive, a self-study package has been developed by which individual students can select an optimal path to update their required knowledge -depending on their foregoing trajectory- and acquire the required competencies. Topics cover electrical systems (medium and high voltage, power protection, power quality), power electronics (prototyping, electromagnetic compatibility), automation (drive control, drive efficiency, industrial networks and diagnosis). The guided self-study approach consists of a handbook and a digital learning platform; practical hands-on laboratories take place, distributed over several university colleges. A final assessment checks whether students obtained the required competencies. Approximately 12 groups of students, from 9 programmes in 7 institutions, cover 25 topics and laboratory visits yearly.

In order to develop the communication competencies of the mechanical engineering students, a written technical report consisting of three documents (a report, a set of slides and a script for the slides) is used. Complex aspects of electronics equipments related to EMC, reliability and safety are learned not only by reading information, but also by creating a report. This tutorized task also helps students to learn and understand how information can be classified, to later provide the right kind of presentation to different technical skilled audiences.

Mechatronics projects at the University of Maribor 马里博尔大学的机电一体化项目

The paper presents three mechatronics project courses for the students of the first degree of Bologna program at the University of Maribor, Slovenia. Three courses, Project I, Project II and Project III, are assigned to the project work in the second and third study year. First course, Project I is some kind of introduction into the project work and the students are almost fully supervised by the mentors. The portion of autonomous work is then increasing trough other two courses and until diploma. In diploma the students typically continue the work on the project, but concentrate on specific details. By a careful choice of attractive, up-to-date real life problems, the project work provides the students with the practical skills and a broad knowledge from the mechanical engineering, motion control theory, electronics, drives, sensors, power electronics, automatic control and mechatronics design. Since quite complex projects are undertaken, many sub-tasks are available within one project, which allows the students to specialize in a field of their choice, by choosing the appropriate sub-task. The paper presents in more details a very popular this year's project ‘Design and realization of a hybrid drive’.

First course, Project I is some kind of introduction into the project work and the students are almost fully supervised by the mentors. The portion of autonomous work is then increasing trough other two courses and until diploma. In diploma the students typically continue the work on the project, but concentrate on specific details. By a careful choice of attractive, up-to-date real life problems, the project work provides the students with the practical skills and a broad knowledge from the mechanical engineering, motion control theory, electronics, drives, sensors, power electronics, automatic control and mechatronics design. Since quite complex projects are undertaken, many sub-tasks are available within one project, which allows the students to specialize in a field of their choice, by choosing the appropriate sub-task. Educational reconfigurable platform for courses on power electronics 电力电子课程教育可重构平台

Power electronics applications have become ubiquitous among electronic products today. As a consequence, a great increase on the demand of professionals by the industry has been observed. This has a direct consequence on the electrical and electronics engineering curricula, as they have to meet the requirements of an industry with an increasing number of products requiring power electronics solutions. Power electronics teaching is usually divided into three areas, as well as it is in other electronics knowledge areas: lecture-based sessions, circuit simulation sessions and practical training. The aim of this paper is to propose a specific tool for the practical training sessions. It is based on a reconfigurable educational platform which allows a fast experimentation with different power converter topologies. The proposed approach presents an improved hands-on training, which allows the student reinforcing theoretical concepts while facing some practical aspects as measurements techniques and safety issues.
