Understanding the functionality of lipid-based materials under large-amplitude nonlinear deformations 了解脂质基材料在大振幅非线性变形下的功能

Lipid-based materials meet many functions such as oil binding, lubricity and rheology. In this article, we focus on their rheological function, specifically in nonlinear viscoelastic properties, which we characterize using a novel approach known as large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS). We summarize recent works on this area and show that this technique has potential for providing invaluable insights into the functionality and perception of lipid-based materials during their application process.

Potential therapeutic applications for emu oil emu油潜在的治疗应用

Emu oil is a rich source of fatty acids extracted from the subcutaneous and retroperitoneal fat of the Emu (a flightless bird native to Australia). Indigenous Australian people first used emu oil for its healing and pain-alleviation properties. Currently, emu oil is commercially available for topical and oral administration, marketed as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant formulation with reparative properties. A limited number of clinical trials have shown indications of efficacy for topically-applied emu oil. More recently, well-controlled pre-clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of orally-administered emu oil in inflammatory intestinal disorders. Consequently, emu oil could form an adjunct to conventional treatment approaches for disorders affecting the gastrointestinal system.
