Objective:This study aims to investigate the clinical effectiveness of muscle function training combined with occlusal inducers in the treatment for children's malocclusion after obstructive sleep apnea(OSA) surgery. Methods:A total of 40 pediatric patients who underwent surgery for OSA at Shanghai Children's Medical Center, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, from January 2020 to December 2021 were involved in this study. They were divided into a treatment group(n=20) and a control group(n=20). The treatment group received muscle function training combined with occlusal inducers, while the control group received muscle function training alone. Cephalometric measurements of hard tissues were compared between the two groups before and 12 months after surgery. Additionally, the OSA-18 questionnaire, which includes 18 items to assess the life quality of children with OSA, was filled out before surgery, 6 months after surgery, and 12 months after surgery by these patients. Results:①The scores of sleep disorders, physical symptoms, emotional status, daytime sleepiness and energy status and the degree of influence on guardians in the two groups were significantly improved at 12 months after operation(P<0.05). The scores of sleep disorders, physical symptoms, emotional status and the degree of influence on guardians in the treatment group were better than those in the control group(P<0.05). ②Cephalometric data at 12 months after operation showed that the upper and lower alveolar seat angle(ANB), Overbite, upper and lower central incisor angle(U1-L1) and Overjet in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group at 12 months after operation, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion:Children with OSA can improve the dentition irregularity by muscle function training combined with occlusal inducer after operation, and the effect is better than that of muscle function training alone.

Objective:To discuss the application of virtual endoscopy in the diagnosis of adenoid hypertrophy and the morphologic classification of adenoid. Methods:The clinical data of 97 children with adenoid hypertrophy admitted to Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Shenzhen University General Hospital from July 2022 to December 2022 were collected. The virtual endoscopic reconstruction of the nasopharynx was performed by cone beam computed tomography. The results of virtual endoscopic adenoid size measurement were compared with the results of nasopharyngeal CT median sagittal position and nasopharyngeal endoscopy. Virtual endoscopic classification of adenoid based on the size of the adenoids and their relationship with the torus tubarius. Results:The t-test results of the size of adenoids measured by virtual endoscopy and nasopharyngeal CT were t=1.699 and P=0.093, and the results of intra-group correlation coefficient(ICC) analysis were ICC=0.921 and P<0.01. The proportion of adenoids measured by virtual endoscopy and nasopharyngeal CT was highly consistent. The t-test results of the size of adenoids measured virtual endoscopy and nasopharyngeal endoscopy were t=1.543 and P=0.15, and the results of intra-group correlation coefficient(ICC) analysis were ICC=0.900 and P<0.01. The proportion of adenoids measured by virtual endoscopy and nasopharyngeal endoscopy was highly consistent. Among the 97 children, the morphological classification results of adenoids were 48 cases of overall hypertrophy type, 47 cases of central bulge type, and 2 cases of flat thickening type. Conclusion:The diagnosis of adenoid hypertrophy by virtual endoscopy has high accuracy, which not only avoids the invasive operation of traditional nasopharyngeal endoscopy, but also can observe the adenoid condition and its relationship with the torus tubarius from multiple angles. And, the morphological classification of adenoids using virtual endoscopy has guiding significance for perioperative preparation.

Skull base osteomyelitis is a rare, refractory, and potentially fatal disease primarily caused by otogenic and sino rhinogenic infections. At times, it can mimic neoplasia complicating the diagnosis. With the use of antibiotics, advancements in diagnostic methods, and skull base surgical techniques, the mortality rate has significantly improved. However, the successful diagnosis and treatment of the disease is still challenging due to delayed diagnosis, lengthy treatment course, a tendency for relapse and lack of guidelines. Therefore, this article aims to review the progress in the diagnosis and treatment of skull base osteomyelitis.

Congenital laryngeal cleft is a rare airway malformation, mainly manifested as choking, feeding difficulties, which affects the growth and development of children. Patients with a severe laryngeal cleft may have recurrent aspiration, leading to cyanotic spells, or even death. Advances in development of endoscopic techniques have made early diagnosis possible. Depending on the degree of cleft, management may involve a variety of approaches ranging from medical management alone to open repair. Therefore, it is important for pediatric ENT doctors to diagnose and evaluate in clinical practice. This consensus statement, developed by the Pediatric otorhinolaryngology Professional Committee of the Pediatrician Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, provides comprehensive recommendations and standardized guidance on diagnosis and management of laryngeal cleft, based on symptomatology, physical examinations, and laboratory tests.

After the COVID-19 epidemic, the total positive rate of sIgE tests in AR patients decreased compared to before, and the difference was statistically significant (<i>P</i><0.001); ⑥Mugwort, dog epithelium, mold combination, egg, peanut, soybean, Marine fish combination and fruit combination all showed statistically significant differences between different gender groups (<i>P</i><0.05); ⑦Common ragweed, mugwort, dust mite combination, cockroach, egg, milk, Marine fish combination, shrimp, fruit combination and nut combination all showed statistically significant differences among different age groups (<i>P</i><0.05); ⑧There were statistically significant differences in hay dust among different ethnic groups (<i>P</i><0.05). <b>Conclusion:</b>Artemisia argyi is the main allergen in Ningxia, and the distribution characteristics of different allergens are influenced by treatment season, the COVID-19 epidemic, gender, age, ethnicity, and other factors, showing certain distribution patterns and rules.</p>","PeriodicalId":18104,"journal":{"name":"Lin chuang er bi yan hou tou jing wai ke za zhi = Journal of clinical otorhinolaryngology, head, and neck surgery","volume":"37 7","pages":"562-569"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10570104/pdf/lcebyhtjwkzz-37-7-562.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"10318913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
