Nowadays, HOG (Histogram of Gradient) feature is extracted from the objects and using it in the classification tasks among the many visual application systems such as object tracking, action recognition and automated video surveillance. Most techniques of extraction HOG feature are based on cells and blocks. Although the HOG feature on cell and block are being robust for current visual systems, the alternative way to extract HOG feature that focus on corner points are presented in this paper. HOG features on corner points is extracted for multiple object detection system in which single or multiple moving objects are classified and labeled. And also comparison results on outdoor challenging sequences for HOG feature extraction on blocks and corners are provided with experimental results.

In this paper, we formulate a real-world Facility Layout Problem as a constraint satisfaction problem and propose a new method with a genetic algorithm. The created layout should reflect the desires of the users of the facility such as individuality, intuition, comfortableness, and convenience. We employed a GA using Levy Flights as basis for an improved mutation operator and used an island model GA with different decoding methods for each island. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Compared to living alone, sharing housing with others is usually much cheaper. Meanwhile, share-housing life would exert mammoth impact on people's social activity and self development by help them save house rental cost and improve their life quality. This paper proposes an allocation information system for share-housing management, which takes into account preference on roommates' living habits, working performance and geography distribution. Moreover, Pareto optimality is utilized to facilitate the effect of share-housing allocation. Results of case study show that the three factors of living habits, working performance as well as geography distribution should be synthetically applied as a decision support for share-housing.

Human Machine Interface demands the communicative propriety that would be applied in various linguistic tasks. In this research, we develop an intelligent ‘chat bot’, which generates conversational sentences via recurrent neural network and its coupled memory unit, long short-term memory (LSTM). Word strings in conversations are considered as time series data. Using a single neural network model that performs a simple task of outputting the next word from the preceding word, a conversational sentence can be generated by connecting the words. In the experiment, we performed the linguistic ‘Turning Test’ to evaluate the proposed system.

Reliability is an important research issue in wireless sensor networks(WSNs). Many literatures about how to improve network reliability in WSNs have been proposed, however the research on establishing evaluation models of reliability for WSNs is yet insufficient. In this paper, a model to evaluate the reliability of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is proposed. This network state based model can effectively evaluate the probability of successful transmission of data packets in WSNs with the consideration of the work states of both the sensor node's different modules and the quality of the communication link. We evaluated the reliability of WSNs in single task and multi-task mode. At the same time, how different network topologies, such as flat and clustering structures, affect the reliability of WSNs is also discussed respectively. Furthermore, some typical reliable strategies, such as retransmission, multi-path transmission and multiple sink nodes, are analyzed and evaluated. The simulation attempts to evaluate the reliability of WSNs quantitatively and the results have shown the impacts of network state on reliability and the effectiveness in different reliable mechanisms.

Thermal image has many applications on image processing such as human detection, face recognition and physiological signal evaluation, etc. The respiratory rate is an important physiological signal, and it is highly related to emotion and some diseases. Therefore, we propose a non-contact method to estimate the respiratory rate from thermal image in this paper. Thermal image can provide the information about temperature distribution, so we can use this property to evaluate the breath signal on it. In this work, we use the visual image to detect the face and nose region to locate the ROI for breath signal extraction, then use the histogram equalization to enhance the contrast of thermal image. To make the breath signal more obvious, we proposed a method to find a mask from ROI with Otsu threshold method among some accumulated frames. In addition, Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi (KLT) tracking method is employed to tack the subject to prevent the ROI location error. Next, breath signal is decomposed by Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) into some intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). Finally, respiratory rate is estimated by counting the approximate zero-crossing points which are correlated to breathe cycle.

This paper proposes a batch-based method to effectively relax the flash crowd in P2P live streaming systems with the aid of the cloud. The role of the cloud is twofolds. The first one is to determine the concrete overlay structure of batches consisting of nodes waiting in the request queue which is restricted to be a multiple-spanning-tree. With this approach we could maximize the resource utilization in each batch without increasing the load of the tracker. The second one is to feed recently issued chunks to the gateway of batches before connecting them to the existing overlay. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by simulation. The result of simulations indicates that: 1) the proposed method reduces the waiting time of conventional method by 80%, and 2) the amount of data fetched from the cloud could effectively be reduced by decreasing the size of batches.

An ongoing problem facing all companies is how to continuously satisfy customers. Customer satisfaction has been generally determined to be an indicator utilized by companies to improve goods and services for customer retention. Since information and communication technology (ICT) is rapidly developing in every field, companies should adequately capture customers' changing mindset or the underlying dissatisfaction factors concerning ICT services, and determine the plans to improve customer satisfaction. For this reason, the transitional evaluation approach is required for goods and services related to ICT when considering the changes in circumstances in addition to the evaluation, which merely finds items with a high dissatisfaction score. This paper focuses on e-Books and provides interpretation to transitional evaluation with questionnaire results for three years. Moreover, the method of determining the improvement factors for e-Books is reviewed.

Rushes videos consist of two types of content: the useless content and the redundant content (retakes). Then, automatic retake detection is more challenging due to the difficulty of eliminating repetitive takes, that are usually have different lengths and motion patterns. To overcome this challenge, previous approaches represent video segments using a longer string which is converted from SIFT matching, or a combination of different features. However, these require a large computational time and do not assist in improving a performance. In this work, we introduce a simple signature (global feature) to represent video segments because of its simplicity and effectiveness. The similarity between each pair of signature sequences was determined by using the Longest Common Subsequence algorithm (LCS). A simple retake detection was then used to detect a retake. This proposed was applied to the TRECVID BBC Rushed 2007 and 2008. The results showed that using a simple signature provides a high degree of accuracy, and reduces a computation time in feature extraction and LCS matching.

The explosive growth and influence of social media and microblogging sites has paved a way for internet users to freely express their views, opinions and share their experiences with others. With over 319 million users, Twitter presents a unique and dynamic source of information on people's interests and opinions and a rich source of data for sentiment analysis. This paper will discuss the influence of twitter on education policy making. The study aims at helping education policy makers to develop and implement policies that responds to the publics needs.
