Objectives: the purpose of the work is determined by the need to clarify the role of standardization in the knowledge economy in order to increase the effectiveness of its application in the interests of sustainable development and improving the quality of life. Methods: the work is based mainly on the conceptual basis of the quality economics, using the methodology of a general scientific philosophical approach and methods of interdisciplinary research. The source material has become scientific research on the impact of standardization on the economy, conducted in Russia and abroad. Results: in the course of analysis of the institutional role of standardization, its regulatory framework and standards focused on improving the quality of life in the knowledge economy are considered. In the article standardization is presented as a factor of growth and development.

The article discusses the specifics of the effectiveness of the implementation of various projects while maintaining a sustainable regime of economic transformations in the Southern Federal District. These transformations are analyzed from the point of view of the Strategies for the socio-economic development of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation that make up the territory of the Southern macroregion, within which the content of indicators of the effectiveness of regional sustainable development is identified. Taking into account the multidirectional process of socio-economic modernization at the regional and macro-regional levels, the sustainable mode of this development is characterized by many parameters that determine the features of the economic space of the corresponding territory. The author comes to the conclusion that a set of interrelated indicators make up a general picture of a sustainable mode of production of products in demand on the regional market.

Socio-economic processes in crisis conditions characterized by the transformation of industrial relations and the increase of technological capabilities are discussed. The impact of these processes on the public aura and the structure of society, on the system of vocational education and the industrial sphere is assessed. The modern educational orientations of young people and the problems arising in this case are considered. It is noted that students need to develop a historically grounded mentality and creative skills that take into account the permanent generation of new knowledge, social tensions and the complexity of production processes.
