Geographic Cluster or Global Linkages? What Accelerates Emerging Market Firms Foreign Entry Speed 地理集群还是全球联系?是什么加速了新兴市场企业的进入速度

This study examines whether emerging market firms use global linkages as a substitute to the location in geographical clusters to promote the speed of foreign market entry. Drawing from economic geography, we find a slower speed of foreign market entry by firms located outside geographical clusters in the home country as compared to firms inside clusters. This relationship is further moderated by the firm’s cognitive proximity in the foreign markets (measured as a firm’s extent of informal global linkages). Cognitive proximity increases the transfer of tacit knowledge and weakens the negative impact of firm cluster absence on the speed of foreign entry. We test the proposed hypotheses using the cox proportional hazard model based on a longitudinal sample of 602 Indian firms in the information technology industry (IT) from 2000 to 2019.

Psychological Safety and Creativity in Teams: A Mediated Moderation Model of Shared Leadership and Team Diversity 团队心理安全感与创造力:共享领导与团队多样性的中介调节模型

The current study extends the literature on psychological safety and team creativity by exploring the questions of whether, how and when psychological safety influences team creativity positively. Specifically, the current study proposes that psychological safety has a positive impact on team creativity and this impact is mediated by shared leadership. Furthermore, the study introduces team diversity as a potential moderator in the relationships between psychological safety and team creativity through shared leadership. It is found that the direct effect of psychological safety on team creativity is more positive when team members perceive high diversity. Using a sample of 135 members working in teams in R&D departments in the electronics industry, the hypotheses were largely supported. Theoretical contributions, practical implications and future research directions are discussed.

Combating Fake News and Digital Deception at the Workplace: An Integrative Review and Open Systems Theory-led Framework for Future Research 在工作场所打击假新闻和数字欺骗:一个综合审查和开放系统理论主导的未来研究框架

Research on fake news and related acts of deception in the domain of human resource management is growing but still in its infancy. This escalating crisis necessitates immediate attention, as fake news evolves into an all-pervasive phenomenon that surpasses domain boundaries and affects organizations at scale. This study analyzes the growing corpus of research on fake news and concomitant acts of deceit in the domain of human resource management through an integrative review of 64 scholarly papers published in peer-reviewed journals over the last 30 years. We identify key themes and draw attention to gaps that merit scrutiny. We then propose an open systems theory-led conceptual framework that elucidates the relationships between fake news, related acts of deceit and its effects on various facets of human resource management practice and serves as a guide to advance contributions in the field. Directions for future research and implications for practice are discussed.

The Decomposition of Productivity Growth for India: Before and After 1991 印度生产率增长的分解:1991年前后

We analyse how structural shifts affected India’s productivity growth from 1983 to 2017. The analysis is carried out within a broad three-sector level of disaggregation of the aggregate economy. We show that about 29% of the aggregate productivity growth of India during this period comes from structural change. While this contribution has declined since 2007, the remaining 71% of the productivity growth originates within the individual sectors, especially within the tertiary sector, which alone explains about 30% of this productivity growth. About a quarter of the total productivity growth that occurred prior to economic liberalization in 1991 is attributed to the tertiary sector. We found that between 2007 and 2017, the tertiary sector was responsible for almost 38% of India’s total productivity growth. This contribution is much larger than the contribution made by structural change, and, therefore, the significance of the tertiary sector in Indian economic expansion is growing. Our findings also indicate that the most structural change occurred between 1998 and 2007, which may have contributed to productivity increase in the decade.

Examining Ban on the Blending of Mustard Oil in India: A Food Nutrition Perspective 从食品营养的角度审视印度对混合芥末油的禁令

This article aims to critically examine India’s ban on the manufacturing and sale of blended mustard oil from a food nutrition point of view. The presence of erucic acid in India’s traditional mustard crop varieties is far higher than the internationally accepted level of erucic acid content in the rapeseed mustard oil and the canola-quality oil. Human consumption of rapeseed mustard oil containing high erucic acid has been a significant concern for public health and nutrition experts due to the perceived health hazards of erucic acid. As the concentration of erucic acid is proven to reduce if the mustard oil is blended with other edible oils, the ideal way to consume Indian mustard oil is by blending it with other edible oils. Therefore, from a public health point of view, the ban on mustard oil blending is not an appropriate policy move.

Insider Ownership and Real Earnings Management in Indian Companies 印度公司内部人持股与真实盈余管理

The present study aims to examine, and to test the monitoring effect of institutional investment on, the relationship between insider ownership and real earnings management in Indian companies. The study examines the non-linear association between insider ownership and real earnings management using a sample of listed non-financial companies in the Indian market from 2011 to 2018. The study used pooled data OLS regression and Quantile regression. The findings reveal significant non-linear U-shaped relationship between insider ownership and real earnings management and that the large-size institutional investment makes such non-linear relationship insignificant. Contribution of the present study to the literature is two-fold. First, it proves the differential impact of the size of insider ownership on real earnings management. It indicates that firms having large-size insider ownership have greater scope for real earnings management, underscoring the need for the more scrutiny of reported earnings by the outsider shareholders. Second, it proves significant positive effect of the size of institutional investment in constraining the entrenchment by the insider owners. It signals that firms with large-size institutional investment have better quality of financial reporting and also contribute to efficient price discovery in the capital markets.

Experience from E-Government Services: A Topic Model Approach 电子政务服务的经验:主题模型方法

Governments globally are striving to improve citizens’ service delivery by adopting digital technologies, such as online portals and call centres. Although digitization provides an opportunity to improve citizens’ satisfaction, to design citizen centric e-government services, agencies need to proactively understand citizens’ experiences. This study explored the Google Play reviews of UMANG (an aggregated e-government mobile application of the Government of India). We aggregated 4,921 reviews provided from March 2020 to April 2021. We first theoretically (using the S-O-R framework) and empirically (link between sentiment polarity and user rating) examined the validity of user reviews to extract insights into citizens’ experiences. Subsequently, we extracted eight topics related to citizens’ experiences by using latent Dirichlet allocation, an unsupervised machine learning algorithm. The following topics were identified—perceived usefulness, ease of use, product feature experience, delivery turnaround time, technological experience, login experience, customer care experience, and payment experience. We validated identified topics by determining the inter-rater agreement between LDA and human rater output. Finally, we calculated the relative importance of the identified topics and topic-wise sentiment polarity. The findings of this study can help in designing citizen centric e-government services and prioritizing the right dimension of citizens’ experience.

Multi-Stage Partner Selection for Firms’ Non-Core Offerings: A Study of The Telecom Sector of India 企业非核心产品的多阶段合作伙伴选择:以印度电信行业为例

Partner selection is critical for organisational performance for both core and non-core offerings of a firm. Using a multiple-case study, we analyse the partner selection process related to the firm’s non-core offerings. The analysis suggests that partner selection is a multiple-stage process rather than a single-stage process. Partners are evaluated against the first set of criteria comprising value offering and technological complexity, generating possible decision sets through trade-off. Once the first stage decision is favourable, partners are assessed against another set of criteria at the next stage. For low technological complexity, the criteria are propensity to scale up and competitive advantage, whereas for high technological complexity, the criteria are organisational compatibility and technological sophistication. The decision sets from the final stage conclude partner selection and possible on boarding.

Think Happy Be Happy: Salesperson’s Personal Happiness and Flourishing 思考快乐,快乐:销售人员的个人快乐和繁荣

Although the role of positive emotions is important in sales, personal happiness remains understudied in the selling context. Grounded in broaden-and-build theory, this study aims to examine the relationships among personal happiness, job involvement, job satisfaction and salesperson flourishing. For salespeople, the new demands of a connected world have largely blurred the boundaries between their personal life and work life. It has allowed emotions from their personal life to spill over into their workplace. Data from 137 salespeople in the retail context in India lend support for the proposed serial mediation model. The authors propose that the influence of personal happiness on a salesperson flourishing is mediated by job involvement and job satisfaction. Results of this study shows that personal happiness has a direct influence on the salesperson’s flourishing and is effective only through the mediating influence of job satisfaction and not of job involvement. This study extends the broaden-and-build theory by proposing that personal happiness may influence flourishing at work. The findings illustrate the need for a renewed focus on salesperson’s personal emotions, especially in todays connected workplace where the boundaries between personal and work life are shrinking

The H-1B Visa and US GATS Market Access Commitments: Options and Strategies for India H-1B签证和美国服务贸易总协定市场准入承诺:印度的选择和战略

Indian IT firms and professionals have been one of the primary beneficiaries of the US H-1B visa. However, the new US ‘buy American, hire American’ policy and the consequent suspension of the H-1B visa have resulted in India’s claims that the US measures are discriminatory and not in compliance with various provisions of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). The present article aims to assess the consistency of the US measures on H-1B category visa in the context of its specific commitments under Mode 4 of GATS and explore India’s options in finding a suitable solution. Our analysis posits that India’s concerns are well-founded, and the US measures at issue may have direct implications on its commitment under the GATS Schedule of Commitments. At the same time, for India, the option of the invocation of the WTO redressal process to force the well-guarded discretionary sovereign power associated with entry visas could be counterproductive and finding a mutually beneficial solution seems to be the way forward. The article will also help understand and explore India’s options in dealing with the highly sensitive area of entry for foreign nationals that falls under the domain of sovereign prerogative of a State.
