Besides National and University collections, private collections are very important for scientists. This paper deals with the seashells collection of the “CAN GEYRAN Seashells Center”. The “CAN GEYRAN Seashells Center” houses more than 10,000 seashells, complete with data, collected by self-collection, trade, exchange or donations over approximately 50 years. The Center has a 450 m² exhibition area where approximately 320 seashells are exhibited along with some handcrafts, objects indicating the relationship between humans and shells. The center has also a library with more than 1800 publications mainly about the seashells of Turkish seas.

Herbariums, which are places where dried plant specimens are regularly stored, have indispensable working material, especially for taxonomists. The Herbarium of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Istanbul University (ISTE) is one of Turkey’s most important herbariums and has more than 110 000 plant specimens some of which have medicinal properties. The species of the Malvaceae family that make up some of the plant specimens in ISTE are significant because they are widely used in traditional folk medicine. This family is represented by 10 genera and 47 species (3 endemic) in Turkey. In this study, the specimens of Malvaceae were examined and numerical evaluation of the family in Flora and in ISTE was given. Specimens of one species from every genus that are existing in ISTE were photographed and important taxonomic characteristics of family were shown. In conclusion, 39 taxa belonging to 9 genera in ISTE have been observed and 418 specimens from these taxa were counted. The genus Alcea, which has 130 specimens, has been found to have more specimens than all genera of Malvaceae family. Also, the diagnostic key to genera has been rearranged for the new genus added to the family.

One specimen of zebra goby, Zebrus zebrus (Risso, 1827) was collected in the Bosphorus Strait. The present record of Z. zebrus from the Bosphorus Strait extended the geographical distribution of this species. The present finding is an evidence that Z. zebrus is more of a common species in Turkish waters than it is previously believed..

Bu calismada Istranca Deresi’nde yasayan tatlisu kefali [Squalius cephalus (Linnaeus, 1758)] populasyonunun buyume biyolojisi incelenmistir. Mart 2012 ile Haziran 2013 tarihleri arasinda dere uzerindeki 6 istasyondan aylik olarak elektrosok cihazi yardimiyla avcilik gerceklestirilmistir. Elde edilen S. cephalus bireylerinin boy, agirlik, yas, esey dagilimlari ve oranlari, yas-boy, yas-agirlik, boy-agirlik iliskileri, von Bertalanffy parametreleri, fulton kondisyon faktoru degerleri incelenmistir.

Calisma sonucunda, Atherinidae, Centrarchidae, Clupeidae, Cobitidae, Cyprinidae, Esocidae, Gasterosteidae, Gobiidae, Percidae, Poecilidae, Salmonidae ve Syngnathidae olmak uzere 12 familyaya ait toplam 38 takson tespit edilmistir.
