ABSTRACT The subalpine zone of the Himalaya epitomises a transition (ecotone) between alpine grassland and temperate forest ecosystems. This research was conducted in seven sites Chanshal, Marhi, Chotabanghal, Hattu, Shipkila, Jot, and Pangi Valley of Himachal Pradesh. A total of 61 species of butterflies belonging to 45 genera, 5 families, and 16 subfamilies were documented. The members of the family Papilionidae and Hesperiidae have been least recorded. We have carried out butterfly sampling along an elevational gradient (2300–3899 m). A Kruskal Wallis test for diversity indices for seven different sites from the year 2013 to 2015 (H = 1.024, df = 6 p = 0.984, H = 0.642 df = 6 p = 0.995, H = 0.690 df = 6 p = 0.994 p > 0.05) revealed no significant difference. Three species legally protected under Wildlife Protection Act, India, 1972, have been detected. They are Lampides boeticus, Maniola devendra devendra Schedule II Part II and Euploea mulciber Schedule IV.

ABSTRACT The study concerned the mosquitoes of the region of Laghouat (Septentrional Sahara of Algeria), for one year (December 2018 to November 2019). This study contributes to the identification and systematic determination of collected species. The surveyed sites are of rural, peri-urban, and urban types. The systematic study revealed the presence of fifteen species belonging to the Anophelinae and Culicinae subfamilies. Four registered genera were presented by Anopheles with 5 species identified for the first time; Aedes with (1 single species), Culex (7 species) and Culiseta (2 species). Culiseta longiareolata was the most abundant and frequent species with 633 individuals, followed by Culex theileri (403 individuals) and Anopheles sergentii sergentii (238 individuals). Concerning the bio-ecological aspect of the distribution of these species, the influence of 5 physicochemical parameters and other biotic parameters (aquatic vegetation, lodges) on the spatio-temporal distribution of the species revealed the existence of two groups of sites and species collected with a preference of the presence of all the species of the genus Anopheles in the saline waters (brackish), alkaline, less charged in MES, with a high level of DBO5 and rich in green algae.

ABSTRACT Nepal is a mountainous country in the Central Himalayas, well known for its high biodiversity and unique fauna. The vivid habitat of Nepal seems to possess high diversity of hoverflies (Diptera: Syrphidae), however, little investigation has been done on these flies in this country. The present study aims to explore the hoverfly fauna based on present field sampling from the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. The field collection includes 454 hoverfly specimens belonging to 34 species from the park with three new country records: Graptomyza nigripes, Lycastris albipes and Volucella trifasciata. The photographs of dorsal and lateral habitus of all 34 collected species are presented. The present collection of hoverfly specimens in the park shows equal number of species in both subfamilies; Eristalinae and Syrphinae while none of the specimen collected from subfamilies Pipizinae and Microdontinae.

ABSTRACT This study treated the taxonomic diversity and the functional traits of the carabid beetle communities living at Sebkha Ezzemoul in Northeastern Algeria. The fauna was fortnightly sampled using pitfall traps, set up in two stations at the wetland vicinity, during one year. Alpha diversity was evaluated by calculating non-parametric indices. Moreover, several functional traits of the beetles, such as body size, diet, humidity requirement, wing morphology and chorotypes, were studied. The GLMM test was applied to test the spatiotemporal effect and the effects of the environmental variables on the variation of beetles’ diversity. The CCA was applied to determine how environmental factors influence the functional traits of the carabid community. Catches totalled 173 individuals belonging to 18 species, 14 genera and 9 subfamilies. The most abundant species is Cicindela maura with 51 individuals (29.48%). The collected species were dominated by medium-sized body (55.55%), zoophagous (72.22%), hygrophilous (61.11%) and macropterous species (94.44). Most of them were Mediterranean (77.77%). The use of GLMM showed significant effects of the environmental factors on the Carabidae communities. The CCA demonstrated that mesophilous and zoophagous as well as small- and medium-sized species were positively correlated with the environmental factor except the soil pH.

ABSTRACT A new species of Clephydroneura Becker, C. jiangxiensis sp. nov., from Jiangxi, China, is described and illustrated. Previously 14 species have been recorded from other Chinese provinces (i.e., Hainan, Guangxi, and Yunnan). This new species C. jiangxiensis sp. nov can be differentiated from other closely related species by its prolonged and apically expanded epandrium, two short separated black stripes on the thorax and key-shaped phallus. A key to Clephydroneura species known from China is provided. http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:CF2624DB-67FC-469F-8E19-D5C2D7A31B11 http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:42B8F471-E66D-4456-AE0B-A3E419686F7E
