Automotive is an application domain that witnessed a fast technology evolution in the last decade. Such an evolution determined new challenges and consequent technical and cultural changes in the way automobiles are designed and produced. In particular, to face the ever increasing number and complexity of software-intensive components the car manufacturers adopted different countermeasures, as the use of software process assessments (mainly based on the ISO/IEC 15504 standard) in software suppliers’ management. After almost a decade and hundreds of assessments performed world-wide, it is time to evaluate the effects obtained. In this paper the authors, on the basis of a extensive experience in leading software process assessment in automotive, describe the achievements and discuss the open issues to identify possible solutions.

Uncertainty and imprecision are inherent characteristics of human knowledge and their role in knowledge engineering and knowledge-based systems development has been extensively examined in the literature. However, when it comes to enterprise knowledge management, existence of corresponding frameworks that are able to address the issue of knowledge imprecision in a formal and comprehensive way is limited. With that mind, we present in this paper our work in progress on an integrated knowledge management framework that effectively deals with the above limitation through the utilization of fuzzy semantics.

Since the Grid is a dynamic environment, the detection of available resources and prediction of resource availability in near future is important for resource scheduling. In a Grid environment, prediction and evaluation of resource availability is the prerequisite for a reasonable resource selection and good scheduling guarantee. There are many approaches for discovery and prediction of the resource availability that have some weaknesses (e.g., complexity time, predicting, using out of date data, etc). In this paper, we present a new method for detection of available resource based on online-announcer with no inquiry from Grid scheduler. We use a rough set analysis in each grid node to get some useful rules for predicting about node’s behavior in the grid. The experiment results show that our proposed approach is fast algorithm and it applies effectively a reliable method to predict of proper resources for scheduling.

This paper presents web-based application for analysis of electric and electronic circuit. The application is based on PHP scripts and use Spice and Maple with PraCAn package as a computation engine. Continuous-time linear and nonlinear circuits as well as periodically switched linear (PSL) circuits can be analyzed. Results can be obtained in symbolic form for case of linear circuits. Description of the circuit can be entered through graphical schematic editor. It is a Java applet for netlist creation. The whole system is developed at the Department of Circuit Theory, for research and teaching support.

The Semantic Web is a project and vision of theWorld Wide Web Consortium to extend the current Web, so that information is given well-defined meaning and structure, enhancing computers and people to work in cooperation.Semantic technologies are being added to enterprise solutions to accommodate new techniques for discovering relationships across different database, business applications and Web services. In this paper, we present an architectural model for a software tool which combines the use of Semantic Web mechanisms with database metadata and data warehousing mechanisms. If the benefits of the Semantic Web concept are combined with a powerful database server, then the information management will be much improved.

The paper presents the file structure of a multimedia database management designed to manage and query medium sized personal digital collections that contain both alphanumerical information and digital images. The software tool allows creating and deleting databases, creating and deleting tables in databases, updating data in tables and querying. Along with the classical functions of a DBMS, an element of originality of this system is that offers the ossibility to insert new images in the database, together with their relevant information in a special data type called IMAGE. This type can be used to store all the formation regarding the image: color characteristics, texture characteristics, width, height, etc.

Various speech disorders or language impairments can affect the whole life of a person. Discovered and treated in time, they can be corrected, most often in childhood. The use of information technology in order to assist and supervise speech disorder therapy allows specialists to collect a considerable volume of data about the personal or familial anamnesis, regarding various disorders or regarding the process of personalized therapy. These data can be the foundation of data mining processes that show interesting information for the design and adaptation of different therapies in order to obtain the best results in conditions of maximum efficiency. The aim of this paper is to make a short analyze of the use opportunity of the data mining techniques in order to improve the personalized therapy of speech disorders framework. We also present Logo-DM, a data mining system designed to be associated with TERAPERS system in order to provide information based on which one could improve the process of personalized therapy.

This paper presents a new heuristic based on evolutionary algorithms and applied to the university course scheduling problem, where a feasible and comfort time tables are required. Here, the idea is to use an evolution program which is a stochastic optimization strategy similar to genetic algorithms. The main difference is that evolutionary programming insists on the behavioral linkage between parents and their offspring rather than seeking to emulate specific genetic operators as observed in nature. The paper starts by defining the problem and determining the constraints under which the solution should be found. Then, the problem model is described with a set of courses, rooms, instructors, and student groups. Finally, the proposed methodology is applied on a real data set from one of the four colleges of our university. Results show that our methodology permits more robust exploration for the search space of the designated problem which gives more optimized time schedules than those performed manually. The obtained results also show that the proposed solutions can solve many registration difficulties.

Continuous technological innovations are bringing new opportunities to healthcare applications. Although these improvements apply to most of its different fields, outstanding results are being achieved in medical devices interoperability, oriented to ubiquitous solutions including wearable devices, focused to the new paradigm of Personal Health (p-Health). These evolutions can improve the quality of the patient’s care, increase the user’s interaction and, furthermore, lead to new medical use cases based on Ambient Assisted Living, home monitoring of elderly, heart failure, chronic, under palliative care or patients who have undergone surgery, urgencies and emergencies, or even fitness auto-control and health follow-up. Furthermore, in order to assure p-Health applications to be fully compatible with larger global e-Health systems in terms of terminology homogenization or plug-and-play operation, proposed solutions have to be based on interoperability. In this paper, recent innovative advances in biomedical engineering applied to standard-based telemedicine solutions are detailed.

Any purposeful organization can be understood as a value network. The main goal of this network is to deliver the highest value from the interdependencies between nodes. Improvement in this domain requires to increase efficiency, response time, knowledge availability and knowledge storing. One of the most interesting research topics in the field of multi-agent systems is the definition of models with the aim of representing social structures such as organizations and coalitions, to control the emergent behaviour of open systems. This paper presents an approach to capture knowledge from social environment by building new features in the social network analysis systems and use this knowledge as a source for modelling multi-agent systems. This paper presents a different approach to capture knowledge from social environment and handle social aspects in intelligent analysis systems by developing and simulating agent’s behaviour. Those proposed methods will help to represent knowledge in a new way as well as simulate and automate knowledge flow.
