In this article, authors developed a model for one particular example of microgrid and considered possibilities to integrate solar panels and power storage into existing grid with diesel generator. The choice of configuration is described and power Quasi-Dynamic simulations are performed for the verification of the model. This paper mainly focuses on reliability issues and considers probability of Top Event of failure for the chosen topology. This method can be useful for preliminary analysis of similar projects.

Progress in efficiency improvement has been main a matter in grid tie inverters. The employment of multilevel inverters in energy conversion promises a better power quality and lower switching losses than ordinary two-level inverters even in low voltage grid. This paper presents the implementation of several control schemes (Vector Oriented Control, Hysteresis Control) and modulation techniques (Pulse-width Modulation, Nearest Level Control) for a 17 level cascaded H-bridge grid tie inverter for a battery energy storage system. For this purpose, the different physical models distinguished in control and modulation schemes were implemented in Simulink® and Simscape™. On the merits of simulations it is concluded, that the phase shifted modulation technique gives less total harmonic distortion in current and the nearest level control gives lower switching losses when compared to other studied techniques in strong and weak grid tie inverters.

This work analyzed the efficiency of the gasification process applied in Urban Solid Waste (USW), since tests carried out in a pilot plant, as a way of studying the feasibility of applying the process in the production of a gas for burning in a boiler and generation of electricity, on a steam turbine and generator system, on commercial scale. The results indicated the feasibility of the process both in the high conversion efficiency of the Residue Derived Fuel (RDF) into gas as in obtaining a gas with burning and energy generation favorable characteristics. A second analysis evaluated the potential of electricity generation in a Rankine cycle steam turbine demonstrating an estimated generation able not only to supply energy for the whole plant, from USW processing to the fuel gas burning, but also for exporting to the energy grid.

Electric power is the electrical appliances basic means for their functionality. In case that the electrical energy customer causes problems arise thereby complaints the power quality. In areas with frequent complaints of power quality measurements were made in order to resolve the reported complaints and also in order to investigate the cause of exceeding the compatibility level of power quality.

In this paper the switched reluctance generator (SRG) is explored considering the improvement of its efficiency. This machine generates a DC power that is directly related to input driving parameters. Simulation results are presented bringing a case study of parametric regression to track the best efficiency for any input parameters: excitation voltage and turn off angle. A method known as parametric regression is applied along with deterministic optimization in order to find an equation that provides the driving parameters so the machine can generate DC power associated to high efficiency.

This article describes the basic modeling approach of the creation of a resistive heating model of the molybdenum sheet with use of the finite element simulation method. The aim of the model creation is the research of a suitable electrode material with respect to its electrical and thermal properties. The created model is compared to the measurement and adjust for the best possible accuracy. The need for this model also refers to the possibility of predictive control system due to the thermal inertia of the system.

This paper deals the mathematical description of an asynchronous machine. Differential equations are then used to create a dynamic model of asynchronous machine. For the possibility of evaluation the quality of the created model are created at the conclusion the basic characteristics of representing the asynchronous machine. Graphs show almost identical measured and the simulated values. The model is created with a lot of simplification, therefore the simulation model will be not behave identically in all cases, as the real asynchronous motor.

This paper presents the design and simulation of an non isolated DC-DC Cuk converter. The input current control is provided with pulse-width modulation (PWM). A closed control loop is used with two proportional-integral (PI) controllers for the current and voltage. The DC-DC Cuk converter is used with Simulink cells for battery and supercapacitors (SC) to simulate the charging and discharging process for a stationary energy storage device (ESD). Simulations results are presented in Simulink.

This paper's purpose is to investigate the energy efficiency with the installation of the photovoltaic system in residences of social interest, seeking mainly to meet the demands of higher consumption of electric energy such as the showerhead. An estimatedproposal of the Energy Efficiency Program carried out by the Goiana Housing Agency in which it will install 1,199 photovoltaic systems in the housing units of social interest located in the state of Goiás-Brazil. The study estimated the monthly consumption of inputs (water, electricity and gas) in the electric showerhead, gas heater, hybrid shower, solar heater and electric boiler; the total monthly costs for a daily bath per inhabitant were calculated by using the average of 4.9 inhabitants per household. To this comparison was inserted the proposed system of photovoltaic production with the use of electric showerhead. Considering the inputs, the installation cost divided by the life expectancy of the equipment, it was proven that the solution with the lowest cost per bath it the photovoltaic with an expense of 9.38U$. month-1, favorable economic result if compared, for example, to solar heating with an expense of 26.62U$. month-1. The factorssuch asthe average volume of water used per system, average bath time, life expectancy of the equipment, determine the result.
