New method for equalization and symbol detection for 8-PSK EDGE system is investigated in this study. The exact solution to this problem, Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation (MLSE) turns out to be too complex for practical purposes, but this method introduce a new version of Delayed Decision Feedback Sequence Estimation (DDFSE) equalizer that has less complexity and totally comparable performance with complete DDFSE. Simulation results compare our method with DDFSE and lower complexity methods over Rayleigh multipath fading channel. For final step we show the efficiency of our method based on received packet in receiver hardware in trade off between time that each algorithm needs for process a received frame and BER.

This work is concerned with the measure and, most importantly, the prediction of software development projects in terms of cost estimate. The purpose of this paper is to explore the usefulness of recording, in the software project data, the cultural and leadership characteristics of the development team. As a result of the study, a new model for identifying and analyzing was developed. The paper tests the association of these characteristics with the other project characteristics using data from a survey of 41 software projects collected from IT organizations in UAE.

This paper presents data dissemination performance of real-world wireless ad hoc networks under different conditions. All real-world experiments are conducted in an outdoor land and carried out by laptop computers running Windows Vista operating system. An application-layer multithreaded program is used to investigate network performance. In experiments, the behavior of two fundamental performance metrics - delivery ratio, average round trip time was investigated with varying application data sizes and different combinations of network parameters.

The Inverse Gaussian (IG) distribution has been recently proposed as a less complex alternative to the classical log-normal distribution to describe shadowing phenomena. This paper investigates the performance of digital communications systems over IG fading channels. Closed-form expressions for the outage probability and the average bit-error rate for various modulation schemes are derived. Moreover the performance of maximal-ratio and selection combining receivers is analyzed. The proposed analysis is accompanied with various numerical results that validate the theoretical analysis and provide useful insights into the implications of the model parameters on the overall system performance.

Due to the rapid and independent developments of systems, heterogeneity has become a common feature of current networks. In order to harmonize two different networks and close the gap between their technologies, we need to develop a good mechanism for network selection, and access that best satisfy user requirements. Many public areas (collages, airports, hotels…etc) have different systems for providing internet access. However, wireless APs (Access Points) is widely used for associating users with the core network. Network selection mechanisms are of premium importance in ensuring the desired quality of service and moving towards harmonization among heterogeneous networks. This paper investigates an effective and efficient scheme that allows mobile terminals dynamically to select the most appropriate network path according to user preferences such as: cost, speed, quality, and capacity.

We study a multiple-access system with a primary user (PU) and a secondary user (SU) utilizing the same frequency band and communicating with a common receiver. Both users transmit with a fixed transmission rate by employing a channel inversion power control scheme. The SU transmits with a certain probability that depends on the sensing outcome, its queue length and whether it has a new packet arrival. We consider the case of erroneous sensing. The goal of the SU is to find the optimal transmission scheduling policy so as to minimize its queueing delay under constraints on its average transmit power and the maximum tolerable primary outage probability caused by miss-detection. The access probabilities are obtained efficiently using linear programming.

This paper sheds the light on the importance of developing an Arabic simplification tool for the benefit of Arabic readers with low levels of literacy and for Arabic learners. We propose a prototype for a simplification tool, called Al-Baseet, in which we identify some basic modules and stages that are necessary for performing automatic Arabic text simplification. The limitations that stand in the way of developing such a tool are then investigated and recommended for further research.
