Design of a fiber optics fringe projector for 3D reconstruction of dental elements 用于牙齿三维重建的光纤条纹投影仪的设计

In this paper the design of a miniaturized fringe-projector is presented. The projector is intended to be inserted in a triangulation scheme in order to allow implementation of projection moiré technique. The system is specifically designed to be part of a device for contouring complex shapes like those of dental elements. The proposed fringe projection system is based upon the projection of the pattern obtained as a result of the interference between the two points-like sources constituted by the wavefronts emerging by two fiber tips put next together. Results obtained on calibrated specimens confirms the feasibility of the proposed approach. In fact, shape errors observed for the calibrated specimens are below the level of precision required in tooth reconstruction (100 μm).

Fabrication and application of soft glass micro-optical elements for midIR fiber optics 软质玻璃微光学元件的制备与应用

In this paper we describe the application of the hot embossing process to fabricate micro-optical elements using multi-component soft glasses. The fabricated elements are either refractive lenses (plano-concave, plano-convex and biconvex) and diffractive elements (1D and 2D diffraction gratings, Fresnel lenses and arrays of Fresnel lenses) that can be used in the visible to mid-infrared range up to 5 μm. We present all steps of the fabrication process, the results of quality measurements of pattern replication and optical properties of the elements obtained. Finally, we discuss the use of these elements building of a microscopic objective, later employed in a setup for light coupling to the single and multimode optical fibers and in a setup for collimating light from a LED and a single mode fiber.

Fiber Bragg Grating sensors based monitoring system for superconducting accelerator magnets 基于光纤光栅传感器的超导加速器磁体监测系统

New generation of accelerator magnets for high energy applications currently designed, manufactured and tested at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) require the implementation of precise cryogenic sensors with long-term robustness and reliability able to withstand cryogenic temperature and to monitor the mechanical stresses affecting the winding during all the stages of his service life, assembly, cool down and powering. Monitoring the mechanical behavior of the magnet from assembly to operation is a critical task which aims to assure the integrity of the magnet and to safely handle the coils made of new brittle material. This contribution deals with the first successful embedding of Fiber Bragg Grating sensors in a subscale Nb3Sn dipole magnet in order to monitor the strain developed in the coil during the cool down to 1.9 K, the powering up to 15.8 kA and the warm up, offering new perspectives for the development of a complementary sensing technology based on fiber optic sensors.

Zero birefringence 8-fold photonic quasicrystal (QC) fiber 零双折射8倍光子准晶体光纤

In this work we present numerical results of a new class of index guiding photonic crystal fibers achieved with a quasicrystal (QC) lattice structure. The fiber is composed of pure silica 8-fold lattice cladding where few missing holes represent the core region. Our numerical results demonstrate that the proposed QC photonic fiber presents a wide single mode regime. On the other hand, due to its symmetry, the 8-fold structure shows a very close to zero birefringence value.

Radiation tolerant FBG thermo-hygrometers for relative humidity detection in the CMS experiment at CERN 欧洲核子研究中心CMS实验中用于相对湿度检测的耐辐射光纤光栅热湿度计

This work investigates the performances and the radiation tolerance of optical thermo-hygrometers based on Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) technology for humidity monitoring in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN, in Geneva. Extensive characterizations in terms of sensitivity, repeatability and accuracy on 80 specially produced polyimide-coated FBG sensors and 80 commercial temperature FBG sensors are presented. Progressive irradiation campaigns with γ- ionizing radiations were also performed. Results showed that the sensors sensitivity is unchanged after each radiation exposure; while the wavelength peak exhibits a radiation-induced shift. The saturation properties of this shift are discussed.

Analysis of the Brillouin gain spectrum in a graded-index multimode fiber 梯度折射率多模光纤中的布里渊增益谱分析

We present a numerical method for computing the Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS) in a graded-index multimode fiber (GI-MMF). The BGS is shown to strongly depend on the pump and probe modal content. In particular, the peak frequency of the BGS, usually referred as Brillouin Frequency Shift (BFS), as well the BGS bandwidth, vary dramatically with the order of the optical modes interacting along the fiber.

Sensing characteristics of Long Period Gratings in air-core photonic bandgap fibers 空芯光子带隙光纤中长周期光栅的传感特性

In this paper we report on the fabrication and characterization of Long Period Gratings (LPGs) in hollow-core air-silica photonic bandgap fibers (HC-PCFs). The fabrication procedure is based on a pressure assisted Electrode Arc Discharge (EAD) technique. It relies on the combined use of EAD step, to locally heat the HC fiber, and of a static pressure (slightly higher than the external one) inside the fiber holes, to modify the holes. Here, the experimental fabrication of LPG prototypes with different periods and lengths are discussed. And, the sensitivity of LPGs in HC-PCF to environmental parameters such as strain, temperature and static pressure are presented and discussed.

Intrusion detection system for the protection of railway assets by using Fiber Bragg Grating sensors: a Case Study 基于光纤光栅传感器的铁路资产保护入侵检测系统的实例研究

In this work, we demonstrate the capability of Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) sensors to protect large areas from unauthorized activities in railway scenarios such as stations, depots or tunnels. In particular, here we report on the technological strategy we adopted in order to protect a “specific” railway depot, but representative of a quite common scenario in railway environment for outdoor security applications. One of the concerns associated with to the protection of a railway area, indeed, relies on the unavoidable presence of the railroad tracks that cannot be practically obstructed with physical barriers. We propose an integrated optical fiber sensing system, composed by FBGs strain sensors, deployed in a network, to detect human intrusion through the perimeter to be protected, combined with FBG accelerometers sensors to protect the rail track access. Several trials have been carried out in indoor and even outdoor environment. Experimental results reveal that FBGs strain sensors, bonded under a ribbed rubber mat, enable the detection of intruder's break-in and FBG accelerometer sensors, installed under rails, enable the detection of walking intruder on the railroad tracks through the acoustic surface waves generated by the footsteps. The integrated system, based on a single enabling technology, represents a valuable intrusion detection system for railway security and could be further integrated with other sensing functionalities in the railway field using the fiber optic technology.

Several trials have been carried out in indoor and even outdoor environment. Experimental results reveal that FBGs strain sensors, bonded under a ribbed rubber mat, enable the detection of intruder's break-in and FBG accelerometer sensors, installed under rails, enable the detection of walking intruder on the railroad tracks through the acoustic surface waves generated by the footsteps. Evaporation of fluids in suspended-core fibres 悬芯纤维中流体的蒸发

A segment of a suspended-core microstructured fibre was dipped in a droplet of acetone and the evaporation dynamics of remaining acetone inside the cavity were simultaneously analysed with an optical microscope and an optical spectrum analyser. When the fibre is immersed it suffers a 14 dB signal drop. Different menisci form in each cladding cavity, with different evaporation times and rates. The signal restores its initial state not when the evaporation process is complete but after the collapse of a dominant meniscus.

Analysis of an endlessly single-mode penrose-tiling photonic quasicrystal fiber 无限单模彭罗斯平铺光子准晶体光纤的分析

We propose a 10-fold photonic quasicrystal(QC)pattern as the cladding of modified index guiding quasi crystal fiber. We have studied the single-mode operation regime of the fiber by analyzing the effective V parameter. In this case it is presented an endlessly single mode regime due to V-parameter, and the result is in agreement with finite element method (FEM) simulation result. We present birefringence and electromagnetic field profiles using finite element method.
