Investigating dispersion and nonlinearity interaction in optical fibers for hybrid optical telecommunication systems 混合光通信系统中光纤的色散和非线性相互作用研究

The effect of interaction between fiber dispersion and nonlinearities in DWDM hybrid optical communication system is investigated. Eight DWDM wavelengths, 100-GHz spaced chosen on ITU-grid were used in the study. Different hybrid configurations of 10 Gbps and 40 Gbps signals were considered. Numerical simulations were conducted to predict the performance of each signal transmitted. Bit-error-rate criterion was used to quantify the performance of each signal. Optimal regimes of operation were found for different hybrid configurations.

We experimentally demonstrate the effect of depositing gold-coated ZnO nanoparticles on the surface of GaN multi-quantum well LED structures. We show that this method can significantly increase the amount of extracted light.

A new four-dimensional chaotic system is introduced in this paper, it is mainly consist of four multiplier terms. The fundamental characteristics of the new system are investigated by means of equilibrium points, their stabilities, and power spectrum. Furthermore, an optimal controller using Riccati equation is established to run trajectories to the origin. The dynamic of the new system is simulated using Matlab and Simulink.

Mobile health platform for diabetes management based on the Internet-of-Things 基于物联网的糖尿病管理移动健康平台

This paper presents a new Internet of Thing (IoT)-based platform to support self-management of diabetes. This mobile health (mHealth) approach allows for multiple care dimensions of diabetes by means of remote collection and monitoring of patient data and provision of personalized and customized feedback on a smartphone platform. Such support to self-management of diabetes enables real-time clinical interaction and feedback tailored to the personal needs of the patient, utilizing current and historical patient data. The platform understands to what extent the patient's activities comply with their individual treatment plans, deriving rule-based health indicators, and generating appropriate warnings and support in terms of feedback advices. The physical layer of the platform incorporates wireless nodes; each of which encompasses a set of medical sensors linked wirelessly to a mobile device. The physical layer nodes are linked to a Web-based application layer through an existing telecommunication infrastructure. A fully functional prototype system is designed, implemented, and its end-to-end functionality is tested successfully, with high patient acceptability levels demonstrated by means of a clinician-led pilot study.

DOA estimation in MIMO systems with Compressive Sensing for future handsets 面向未来手机的压缩感知MIMO系统的DOA估计

Future handsets are characterized by their small size which limits the number of antennas and the spacing between them. This paper mainly focuses on Direction-of-Arrival (DOA) estimation in Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems based on Compressive Sensing (CS) with practical limitations. The main objective is to strike an optimal balance between complexity and accuracy. A comparison between important DOA estimation algorithms is presented including: Beamforming, Capon, MUSIC, and l1-Singular Value Decomposition (l1-SVD). When considering two antennas with practical antenna spacing limitations, simulation shows that the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) of the estimated DOAs is approximately the same for all algorithms in the presence of a single source. The smallest RMSEs are achieved when the spacing between the antennas relative to the wavelength = 1/3. The l1-SVD algorithm is recommended due to the narrow beamwidth and high resolution.

Iris recognition system for secure authentication based on texture and shape features 基于纹理和形状特征的虹膜识别系统安全认证

One of the most accurate biometric authentication methods is iris pattern. It has the advantages of being stable, contactless and no user's previous knowledge is required. This paper presents an iris recognition system for user authentication. To design the proposed iris authentication system we reviewed and evaluated four iris pattern recognition features including Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG), combined Gabor and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), and Grey level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM). The system was tested using UBIRIS.v1 IRIS dataset and the results showed that GLCM gives the largest Euclidean distance between two iris images for two different users, which is higher than using combined features. Moreover, GLCM gives the highest recognition accuracy using Logistic Model Trees (LMT) classifier. Accordingly, GLCM is regarded the most discriminative and the most effective technique for the proposed iris authentication system.

Mechatronic system design project: A 3D printer case study 机电一体化系统设计项目:3D打印机案例研究

A mechatronics project for designing a 3D printer prototype is discussed. The project work is part of a senior students' project class and is used as a case study to highlight the success of developing a fully-integrated engineering system that incorporates a mechanical plant, electronics, drivers, embedded controllers, and software interface. The project objective is to realize a 3D printer prototype with relatively simple design. The described work can be used as an educational reference for proper mechatronics design and as a hobbyist reference for designing desktop 3D printers.

Design of wide-band bandpass filter with tunable notch response of wireless communication system 无线通信系统中陷波可调宽带带通滤波器的设计

This paper presents design of wide-band bandpass filter with tunable notch response of wireless communication system. This project is to design a five order tunable band-pass filter by using optimum distributed high-pass integrated with Defected Micro-strip Structure (DMS). The wideband frequency is used from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz. The insertion loss and return loss of this project is set to better than 0.5 dB and 20 dB respectively. The DMS is implemented and design after the design of the band-pass filter to remove undesired frequency in wireless communication system. The pin diode is added to act as a switch to tuning the notch response. When the pin diode off, the notch response need to produce a sharp response at 6.8 GHz (RFID) and 8 GHz (X-band satellite communication). When the pin diode on, the notch response is tuned to 4 GHz (C-band satellite communication) with a 400 MHz bandwidth characteristic and a sharp response 6.8 GHz (RFID). All the band reject response must be better than 20 dB. This design is simulated by ADS software and using Roger Duroid 4350B with a dielectric constant of 3.48, substrate thickness 0.508 mm and loss tangent 0.0019.

In all customer based industries, customer churn is considered as one of the most important and challenging concerns since it can lead to a serious profit loss. Therefore, developing accurate churn prediction models can significantly help Customer Relationship Management in planning effective retention campaigns and consequently helps in maximizing the profit of the service provider. In this paper, we propose the use of an Echo State Network (ESN) with a Support Vector Machine (SVM) training algorithm for predicting customer churn in telecommunication companies. The proposed approach is trained and tested based on two datasets: the first is a popular online available dataset while the second is obtained from a local service provider. Experiment results show that ESN with SVM readout outperform other popular machine learning models used in the literature for the same customer churn prediction problems.

Harmonic suppression of symmetrical split ring resonator using double spurlines 双杂散线对称劈裂环谐振器的谐波抑制

In this paper, a new structure of planar microwave sensor for determining and characterizing dielectric materials in common solids is proposed as the appropriate technique to produce high Q-factor with harmonic suppression using double spurlines filter. The proposed sensor is based on new metamaterial symmetrical split ring resonator (SSRR) structure by employing spurline filter for circuit size miniaturization and harmonic suppression. The spurline filter structure forces the proposed resonator to resonate at the fundamental mode which is 2.2 GHz. The double spurlines provide a wider rejection bandwidth compared to the single spurline. The simulated results of the transmission coefficient are in a good agreement with the calculations. It is evidently demonstrated that the proposed ring resonator with double spurlines filter can effectively suppress the harmonic in the ring resonator. The proposed design with harmonic suppression is useful for various applications such as food industry, bio-sensing, medicine, pharmacy and quality control.
