Heat stress HS is one of the greatest problems in contemporary chicken production and it entails significant economic losses. The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of early-age thermal conditioning ETC , vitamin C Vit C supplementation, and their combination on the production characteristics and specific quality parameters of the meat of broilers which were exposed to chronic HS in the last two weeks of breeding. Four hundred broilers Cobb 500 of both sexes were divided into 4 experimental groups. Group C was given Vit C 2 g/L dissolved in water from day 22 until the end of production. Group T was exposed to ETC for a period of 24 h at the temperature of 38 ± 1 oC and 40%-60% relative humidity on the fifth day of breeding. Group TC was the combination of the groups T and C, while group K was the control group. The results indicate that ETC, independently or in combination with Vit C, improves the production characteristics in terms of feed conversion reduction P < 0.05 . The examined treatments increase the volume P < 0.05 of certain parts of the body carcass, legs and thighs, and back with regards to total body weight, especially in group TC. Regarding meat quality determined according to pH value and meat color criteria CIEL* , the best results were also observed in group TC, followed by groups T and C. These results justify the use of Vit C and ETC in summer conditions, when heat stress is expected; however, the best results can be achieved by combining these two methods, thus producing a synergistic effect.

This report is the first molecular characterization of the facultative myiasis agent Eristalis tenax collected from cattle barns in Kayseri province of Central Anatolia, Turkey. A total of 10 adult fly specimens were included in the study. All flies were identified as female adults of E. tenax by morphologic characteristics under a stereomicroscope. The barcode region of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase 1 CO1 gene was amplified with PCR from the genomic DNA extracts of E. tenax specimens for molecular identification and phylogenetic analyses. There was no polymorphism among the CO1 sequences of all isolates leading to the detection of a single haplotype for E. tenax. Haplotype and nucleotide diversities in the CO1 data set comprised of the sequence of the detected haplotype and the published sequences of E. tenax from different countries in GenBank were determined as 0.775 and 0.002, respectively. The newly characterized haplotype in this study clustered with the haplotypes from Australia and Canada in a monophyletic clade and exhibited a 100.0% identity to the Australian E. tenax isolate JN991985 . Interspecific genetic differences between E. tenax and other Eristalis species were in the range of 5.7% to 7.9%.

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of Beltsville thawing solution BTS , Androhep, and Dulbecco?s modified Eagle medium + Fatal bovine serum D-F as diluents of frozen semen on sperm motility and sow reproductive performance. In experiment 1, boar semen was collected and diluted to 2.0 × 109/60 mL, 1.5 × 109/60 mL, and 1.5 × 109/40 mL with Androhep. The appropriate semen dose was determined by postcervical insemination. In experiment 2, boar semen was fumigated with liquid nitrogen and thawed semen was diluted to 1.5 × 109/40 mL with D-F, Androhep, and BTS, respectively. The effects of above diluents on sperm motility and sow reproductive performance were studied by postcervical insemination. The appropriate semen dose for postcervical insemination was 1.5 × 109/40 mL. After thawing of frozen semen, sperm motility of semen diluted with D-F was significantly higher than that of semen diluted with Androhep and BTS. There was no significant difference in pregnancy rates among sows via artificial insemination. The litter size of sows using D-F diluted semen was significantly higher than that of sows using Androhep and BTS diluted semen. In conclusion, D-F freezing diluent can improve sperm motility of frozen boar semen after thawing, prolong sperm survival time, and increase sow reproductive performance.

This study aimed to compare the growth performance, survival rate, flesh, and proximate composition of sex-grouped triploid and diploid Nile tilapia. The triploid population was obtained through heat shock at 41 oC for 4 min, 4 min after fertilization. Before sexing, 50 fish were reared in aquaria at a density of 1 fish L$^{-1}$ for 2 months. After sexing, both triploid and diploid fish were grouped into all-male, all-female, and mixed-sex groups and reared in hapas at a density of 10 fish m$^{-2}$ for 4 months. Each group was replicated three times. The highest body weight, body length, and growth rate were observed in all-male triploids, while the lowest of those parameters were obtained in all-female diploids. The highest survival rate was achieved in both all-male and mixed-sex triploids, and it did not significantly differ from the mixed-sex diploid P > 0.05 . The triploid fish had a higher edible carcass percentage than diploids. Proximate analysis indicated that the crude protein content of triploids was higher than that of diploids, while the crude lipid and ash contents were lower than those of diploids P < 0.05 . Triploid Nile tilapia had the best growth performances, including flesh quantity and quality, compared to diploids.

This study has so far been the first attempt to characterize and quantify skull sexual variation in Kangal dog, by means of geometric morphometric techniques. A sample of 16 adult Kangal crania has been analyzed with this purpose. To obtain a full image of morphological pattern, digital pictures were taken from the ventral, left lateral, and dorsal sides of each skull, and a total of 16, 15, and 16 landmarks respectively were obtained on each image. Skull size and shape differed significantly in all aspects among different sexes, male skulls being bigger. Shape differences were observed mainly on zygomatic arch and muzzle on the dorsal view, pterygoid bone and articular surface to mandibular condyle in the lateral aspect, and cranial width and maxillary bone on the ventral view. Although the sample was comparatively small in number, being the first geometric morphometric approach applied on the Kangal dog, the obtained results will add vital information particularly to understand the cranial shape sexual dimorphism of this unique dog breed in Turkey.

Hemostasis is stopping bleeding in a controlled manner whereas coagulation is a series criterion and to diagnose disorders caused by coagulation in an early period is to determine the coagulation time. These phases are controlled with various tests. In this study, the aim is to determine some coagulation parameters in Sivas Kangal dogs by taking the age and sex into consideration. Coagulation is vitally important in many physiological and pathological cases. The most important tests, complete blood count with peripheral blood smear, prothrombin time PT , activated partial thromboplastin time aPTT , and D-dimer fibrin degradation product assay were applied to all subjects, respectively. It was found that thrombocyte counts in Sivas Kangal dogs were affected by the age factor in automatic and manual counting, whereas they were not affected by sex. In the same way, while PT times showed a meaningful change among groups depending on age, aPTT times were not affected by sex or age. The D-dimer assay results, which show the existence of fibrin degradation product, change depending on age and sex.

The main objective of this study was to determine the content of heavy metals Cd, Pb, Hg and metalloid As in samples of date mussels Lithophaga lithophaga L., 1758 in order to evaluate the health risks for mussel consumers. Samples of shellfish were obtained from commercial sources and fishery in the area of Sarajevo. The content of heavy metals and arsenic is determined in a total of 46 samples. Samples were prepared by microwave digestion. For the analysis of total As, cadmium and lead, an atomic absorption spectrophotometer with graphite furnace was used, while mercury content was determined using a direct Hg analyser. In all samples, the content of heavy metals and arsenic was above the quantification limit of the given methods. The content of all analysed metals and metalloid was below the limits of their maximum allowable concentration in food, according to the current regulations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union. Evaluation of the public health risks associated with date mussels' consumption indicates that there is no evident risk for a moderate adult consumer.

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate which walking analysis data may be obtained for Kangal and Akbas shepherd dogs using a pressure-sensitive walkway PSW and which of these data may be used in the fields of veterinary anatomy, orthopedics, and neurology. Center of pressure COP analysis results of 46 dogs were examined. Distance type gait parameters of dogs were measured and their foot zone analysis values were recorded. It was observed that the pressure values applied by forelimb steps on the ground were higher compared to the pressure applied by hindlimb steps. The highest peak vertical force PVF values were observed in DP3 and DP4 for both forelimbs and hindlimbs. It was determined that the pressure value applied by metapodial pads on the ground were lower compared to digital pads and the PVF values of metapodial pads of the hindlimb were higher than the forelimb metapodial pad values. The correlation between weight and forelimb pressure values was higher than the correlation values between weight and hindlimb pressure values. With the pressure-sensitive walkway system used in the study, COP and foot zone analysis may be performed and distance gait parameters may be measured. It is considered that this system, in which more data may be obtained about the morphometry of walking, is more advantageous with its ease of use compared to other walking analysis systems. It is considered that the studies performed with this system would be a reference in veterinary orthopedic and neurology fields and would contribute to the development of the usage of pressure-sensitive walkway systems for dogs.

In this study, ration preparation software to minimize the cost of feed for ruminant livestock such as cattle, sheep, and goats for both milk and meat yield was developed for Web- and Android-based systems using genetic algorithms. To maximize accessibility on PCs, smartphones, and tablet PCs, we used Web- and Android-based software to find cheaper feed mixes that satisfy the nutritional requirements of ruminants. With this novel system, farmers and scientists can obtain low-cost feed mixes via the Web or smartphones, regardless of time or location.
