Do nonthermal biological effects of millimeter waves exist? 毫米波是否存在非热生物效应?

Experimental results of the influence of low intensity millimeter waves on the growth rate of E. coli and the transformation of plasmid DNA to bacteria are given. The possibility of nonthermal effects of millimeter waves is discussed. Suggestions for verifying whether an effect is a nonthermal effect are given.

/sup 12/CD/sub 3/OH and /sup 13/CD/sub 3/OH have produced hundreds of far-infrared laser lines in the 22 to 3030 /spl mu/m wavelength region when optically pumped by CO/sub 2/ lasers. In this work, we report the discovery and frequency measurement of optically pumped laser emissions from these molecules in the wavelength range from 45.3 to 103.3 /spl mu/m.

Fast GaAs detector for THz radiation 用于太赫兹辐射的快速GaAs探测器

We present a fast detector for THz radiation. The detector consists of a current carrying n doped GaAs crystal built in a corner cube antenna system. Irradiation with THz radiation leads to a reduction of the direct current. We demonstrate the feasibility for detection by analysing single radiation pulses of a TEA CO/sub 2/ laser pumped FIR gas laser.

A numerical analysis is presented by the finite difference time domain method in this paper. A microstrip with an asymmetric metal bandgap structure which shows an extra-wide stop band is numerically analysed when its package is changed.

Infrared spin orientation and spin-galvanic effect in semiconductor heterostructures 半导体异质结构中的红外自旋取向和自旋电偶效应

It is shown that a homogeneous spin-polarized electron gas in semiconductor heterostructures can drive an electric current. Here we report on this spin-galvanic effect where the spin polarization has been achieved by optical orientation applying circularly polarized far-infrared laser radiation. The microscopic origin-of the effect is an inherent asymmetry of spin-flip scattering.

Demonstration of beam optics analysis, a 3D finite element charged particle code with adaptive meshing 光束光学分析演示,三维有限元带电粒子自适应网格划分代码

A modern 3D finite element charged particle code has been developed with adaptive meshing. The new code includes both electrostatic and magnetostatic field solvers and particle pusher. The magnetic field solver uses tangential vector finite elements to solve for the vector potential. Results of some simple examples are given to demonstrate the code correctness and show the graphical user interface (GUI) that requires minimal user input and simplifies code operation.

Beam alignment of ECH transmission line using moment method 基于矩量法的ECH传输线波束对准

In the 84 GHz CPI gyrotron, with a single-stage depressed collector in the TE/sub 15,3/ oscillating mode, a geometric optics Vlasov converter was installed in the tube to convert the mode into a Gaussian beam. The low power test stand where intensity and phase patterns can be measured was prepared at the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS). The sizes and tilt angles of quasi-optical beams are deduced from the measured intensity and phase profiles using the moment method. The Gaussian-like beam is coupled into the HE/sub 11/ corrugated waveguide with tilt angle adjustment. The beam radiated from the waveguide after coupling is analyzed with the moment method. The Gaussian content in the radiated beam is also discussed.

Experimental study on folded waveguide traveling-wave tube 折叠波导行波管的实验研究

The folded waveguide traveling wave tube (FWTWT) is one of the alternative candidates for robust and high power mm-wave sources with the advantages of simple coupling, robust structure, and reasonably wide bandwidth. On the basis of Pierce linear theory and the special features of an E-plane folded waveguide as a periodic structure, the design of FWTWTs using linear electron beams, is uniquely defined by five parameters: center frequency, operation voltage, current, beam radius, and space harmonic number. To verify the validity of this method, a Ka-band FWTWT using a 12 kV, 150 mA electron beam, is designed and constructed. Measured and simulated results are compared.

High-power, long-pulse or CW millimeter-wave sources are required in electron cyclotron heating or current drive for fusion experiments. Gyrotron oscillators have served as effective sources in this area for many years. Developments in using diamond for the output window have eliminated one of the obstacles to realizing high-power, long-pulse devices. At CPI, various programs are underway to deliver long-pulse or CW, high-power gyrotrons. In particular, we have completed the construction and test of an 84 GHz, 500 kW, 2-s-pulse gyrotron for Pohang University of Science and Technology. In addition to features that are similar to other high-power gyrotrons, like the internal converter, diode gun, and diamond window, the 84 GHz gyrotron also includes a single-stage depressed collector. In this paper, we summarize the basic design of the 84 GHz gyrotron and report on the experimental results of the 500 kW, long-pulse operation.

Generation of high-frequency radiation in bi-modal electrodynamic system filled by asymmetric multilayer heterostructure 非对称多层异质结构填充的双峰电动力系统高频辐射的产生

A method of direct transformation of a video pulse into a radio pulse in a microstrip transmission line (TL) filled with a nonlinear medium on the basis of a multilayer heterostructure (MLHS) with asymmetric barriers (AlAs/n-GaAs/Al/sub x/Ga/sub 1-x/As/n/sup +/GaAs/AlAs)/sub N/ has been suggested by A.M. Belyantsev and A.B. Kozyrev (Int. J. Inf. and MM Waves, vol. 18, p. 1169, 1997). The mechanism for the transformation is the electromagnetic shock-wave (EMSW) front instability towards the forward wave running in synchronism with it. In this paper, we study the special features of the direct transformation of a video pulse into a radio pulse in a bi-modal electrodynamic system of the coupled TL type with different types of dispersion allowing backward wave propagation.
