In this article, we propose a first research about the electroencephalographic signals for supporting in some person whit physical disabilities, for example, the movement of a wheelchair. The brain, along with the heart, are the most important organs of the human being is the center of the nervous system, making complex but important functions such as self-control, planning, reasoning and abstract thinking as well as vision. Addition is the organ lies the mind and consciousness of the person. A BCI system is the technique that allows the control of equipment with a proper interface with the brain once it has received the appropriate signals. The aim of this work is to lay a foundation for the development of complete support systems for mobilization of people with disabilities in Ecuador. That's why a BCI system has been developed, it shows where the reception of a cognitive response of the brain produced by the moving of a limb intention produces the movement of the hardware. In this case an electrical wheelchair, which will have the user's affective responses and visual feedback. This work ends with comments and suggestions for further research process in this line to Ecuador.

This paper presents a new power assist suit to reduce the burden of a caregiver's waist for a transfer work in nursing care. The proposed assist suit is a lightweight and inexpensive. In addition, it can be worn and removed easily, since overalls with high pliability is used. The power assist suits with one artificial muscle and two artificial muscles were built, and the assistance effect was evaluated through an integrated electromyogram. Moreover, using a tilt sensor and a pressure sensor, an automatic identification of caregiver's action in the transfer work was carried out to detect a timing which performs air supply and release to the artificial muscle. Also, a pressure control strategy for the artificial muscle was proposed. From the experimental results, using the developed power assist suit, a suitable assist force was supplied to the caregiver automatically.

SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) is a sophisticated system that allows controlling devices via coded signals into communication channels. Its main function is to allow the control of remote power system devices from a remote control center. In addition to the SCADA, complex software is required in order to analyze the data obtained from the system. Without proper analysis, the operator might not be able to take a correct decision of operation. Therefore, Energy Management Systems (EMS) have been designed with the aim of aiding power system operators to carry out the better decision making in real time. CENACE, as the Ecuadorian Power System Operator, has a SCADA/EMS system that is currently facing a full upgrade. Among this upgrade, the problem of lack of adequate modeling of three-winding transformers with tap changers has been addressed by this paper. Thus, a novel three-winding transformer model has been proposed and implemented in the new EMS version at CENACE. State estimation results obtained after implementation of the modeling changes demonstrate the benefits of the proposed model.

Usage of wireless networks is rising in popularity. In this setting different kinds of networks for indoor environments, such as Ad-Hoc, IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) and Wireless Distribution System (WDS) has been developed. In this paper, an analysis of Quality of Service (QoS) has been made for each network in order to verify the values of bit rate, delay, jitter and packet loss. For performance comparison of these networks, injection of UDP traffic was accomplished by means of the Distributed Internet Traffic Generator (D-ITG). Distance and number of obstacles were varied in several deployed network scenarios. In each scenario, QoS parameters were measured and efficiency was estimated. According to results, WDS networks have better performance which has 30% more efficiency in long distance communication than Ad-Hoc and 802.11 networks.

In this paper is presented an Intelligent Well Systems for the Industrial Production of Oil. Such scheme is tested for gas lift (GL) oil wells. The proposal is based on the production assessment, in the utilization of the process variables (specifically, the bottom-well and surfaces pressures), and the operational scenarios detection (in the case study, the production of the oil well), with the objective of optimizing the producing performance of the well. The proposal combines intelligent techniques (Fuzzy Classification Systems) and Mass Energy Balance. Our approach allows determining and controlling the oil or gas flow that a well can produce, taking into account the completion geometry and the reservoir potential, as well as the criteria related to the well's performance curves of oil and gas.

The design of a distal extremity prosthesis (right hand) based on the anthropometric measures of a 10-year old child is presented. Each finger is disposed in two sections, a fusion of the middle and distal phalanx, and a proximal phalanx articulated to the hand palm. The angles of the movement for the extension and flexion of all fingers, except the thumb, are controlled by a link located sideways. The drive system, that generates three degrees of freedom to execute the cylindrical grasp's functions, the precision grasp, hook prehension and the extended index finger, is based on three linear actuators located on the palm, which have a reference potentiometer that provides its position, such indication is used by the microcontroller via the analogic input signal. To validate the design, a stresses and displacements analysis, and the determination of the safety factor that offers the device for the selected materials is carried out, using a computer program based on the Finite Element Method. The results obtained show a light prosthetic device that weights 150 grams, and can operate safely allowing four grip functions with the normal angles of the hand.

This paper presents a study to select the most relevant features for classification of seismic signals obtained from the Cotopaxi Volcano, in the time and frequency domain. Fourier and Wavelet transform were used in the analysis. A total of 79 different features were used for the study. Feature selection was performed by CART by using Gini, Standard Deviation, Twoing Rule, Gram-Schmidt, and Interaction Information as relevant indices. A comparative analysis of the features obtained indicates that the most relevant features for the identification of seismic events are: Maximum Peak Value in the 10-20 Hz range, High Frequency in WT A6 and the Percentage of Energy in the D2 and D5 WT levels.

Power division/combination is a very important function for achieving high-performance power amplification in microwave and millimeter-wave systems, allowing the use of simpler individual amplifiers to provide microwave/millimeter wave high power signals. In this paper we address the development of divider/combiners in waveguide technology for large number of ports. Radial waveguide dividers will be studied, starting from the S-parameters representing the N-port waveguide junction, and ending with the full-wave simulations. Two different designs in this technology are studied. The experimental evaluation will come from a prototype at Ku-band, fabricated and tested in order to validate the design.
