High-impedance fault detection in EHV transmission lines 超高压输电线路的高阻抗故障检测

The automatic detection of high impedance faults (HIFs) on transmission systems has been one of the most persistent and difficult problems facing utilities as a major safety concern. The paper presents two approaches to HIF detection in extra high voltage transmission lines. Both schemes analyze the nature and dynamics of the arc phenomenon related to HIFs using voltage waveforms at the relaying point. The first scheme is based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT) analysis while the second analyzes the three phase voltages using high frequency tap of the coupling capacitor voltage transformers. To ensure development of reliable algorithms, an accurate modeling of HIF is utilized with its complex characteristics such as buildup, shoulder as well as nonlinearity and asymmetry. Results of computer simulation using ATP/EMTP on 345 kV transmission line system clearly reveal that each of the proposed methods can accurately detect HIFs in the EHV transmission lines as well as their ability to discriminate clearly between HIFs and various switching conditions.

Impact of wind farms on contingent power system voltage stability 风电场对应急电力系统电压稳定性的影响

With the global trend towards deregulation in the power system industry, the volume and the complexity of the contingency analysis results in the daily operation and system studies have been increasing. This paper discusses the impact of wind turbine generating units (WTGUs) on power system voltage stability. A probabilistic voltage stability algorithm is developed via power flow analysis where these units are modeled as P-Q bus(es) by detecting the collapse point on the Q-V curves. The developed algorithm also facilitates the computation of both the real and reactive power output of the fixed speed pitch regulated wind turbine at a specific site, wind turbine characteristics, wind speed and terminal voltage. The probabilistic nature of wind is considered by introducing the expected voltage stability margin as an index that combines both of the voltage stability and the wind distribution in one index. The proposed algorithm is implemented and applied on the IEEE 26-bus, voltage stability margin (VSM), and expected voltage stability margin (EVSM) are calculated at each wind speed. The accumulation of the EVSM over a specific period can be considered as the system voltage stability margin which is a single value that can be compared with the voltage stability margin of the all-conventional power system. Finally a contingency analysis for wind power through severe outage cases relevant to conventional power system is investigated.

Adequacy-based placement of WECS in Egypt 在埃及,基于充足性的WECS安置

Energy plays a critical role in the Egyptian development and economy. Electricity demand has increased about twice the growth rate of other fuels. Wind power can contribute significantly to this growing electricity demand because the conditions for large-scale utilization of wind energy in Egypt are excellent. The objectives of this paper are to find the optimal locations of wind energy conversion system (WECS) in Egypt, and to build an overall program for evaluating WECS adequacy taking into effect of probability of wind availability, WECS availability, and tie-line (that interconnects WECS to the grid) transfer capability constraints, and its availability. System risk indices are evaluated for different peak load conditions, and different tie-line transfer capabilities. Moreover, wind observations over a long period of time at the Egyptian meteorological stations are analyzed, and transformed into wind speed probability distribution functions using windographer.

Direct torque control for Linear Induction Motor 直线感应电动机的直接转矩控制

This paper presents a direct torque control for a Single-sided linear induction motor (SLIM). In the last years, in the field of research on linear induction drives, a lot of efforts have been oriented to improve the dynamics performances of these machines by using direct torque control. In order to insure a high transient behavior of the drive and to avoid the draw back of the parametric perturbations in the implemented control, the direct torque control is considered in this work.

Optimal power flow using evolutionary programming techniques 使用进化规划技术的最优潮流

This paper presents comparisons between different methods used to solve Optimal Power Flow (OPF) problem economic dispatch (ED) problem. These methods are Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm from the heuristic methods. Comparisons between these heuristic methods and conventional methods like Interior Point method (IPM) are introduced. The objective function, which consists of the fuel (generation) cost is minimized. Numerical examples typical to each method are introduced. The solutions obtained are quite encouraging and useful in the economic dispatch environment.

Separation of different saliencies modulations for zero speed sensorless control of induction machines using Discrete Fourier Transform and on-line window length adaptation 基于离散傅里叶变换和在线窗长自适应的感应电机零转速无传感器控制中不同显著性调制的分离

Controlled operation of ac machines without mechanical sensor at the motor shaft at zero speed so far is only possible using signal injection methods and exploiting non-fundamental wave effects. By establishing a transient excitation of the machine with voltage pulses imposed by the inverter and evaluate the change of the machine line currents due to these pulses. This transient current change is influenced by the transient phase reactances and these in turn are modulated with the flux-and rotor position, which is the desired information for sensorless control. In this paper a special algorithm is proposed using DFT (discrete fourier transform) method for tracking the saturation and slotting components from the measured saliency signal. The proposed algorithm depends on adaptive window length changing. For tracking of one distinct saliency, its modulation is fixed to a specific harmonic order by changing the window length inversely with the speed of the machine.

Protective measures for transient overvoltages in motors starting by autotransformers 自耦变压器起动电机暂态过电压保护措施

Starting medium voltage motors via autotransformers can result in high overvoltages owing to improper circuit breakers switching time before getting a significant speed, and multiple reignitions (Ahmed et al., 2005).The purpose of this paper is to show results of the study made to suppress these overvoltages that appear at the neutral point of the autotransformer in motor - autotransformer starting arrangement. This paper is to continue the work done in the paper "Transient Overvoltages in Motors Starting by Autotransformers", published in the scientific magazine, Ain Shams University, Faculty of Engineering, bulletin 40/4, December 2005, for the same authors. A model was built in ATP for simulating motor starting process and to show the autotransformer neutral point overvoltages suppression. Two types were used as suppressing devices; the metal oxide surge arrester and the R-C damper, separately and together. Simplified model for the metal oxide surge arrester was introduced and used to suppress the overvoltages.

Study and design of lightning protection for H.V. transmission lines in the Egyptian Unified Network 埃及统一电网高压输电线路防雷的研究与设计

High and Extra high voltages (H.V. and E.H.V.) overhead transmission lines and the associated substations have been subjected to surge overvoltages due to atmospheric lightning storms and switching operations. Overvoltages produced by surges on transmission lines may cause flashover of line insulation and can reach substations, in the form of travelling waves, and may damage its equipment apart from the economic losses due to power outages. Protection of transmission lines against the effects of lightning is secured by a combination of ground wires to minimize the possibility of insulator flashovers, and various types of protective devices. The objective of this research is to reduce the number of interruptions due to lightning to a minimum acceptable amount according to the international standards and codes. This study, at certain level of voltage, concentrates on the design of different types of arresters needed for certain level of protection according to its internal material, characteristics and advantages. Our study showed that Zinc Oxide (ZnO) arresters are the most perfect for this purpose. In this research measures were taken to protect H.V. and E.H.V. lines and substations of the Egyptian Unified Network (E.U.N). Great attention was paid to the sections of lines that are in immediate vicinity to the substations, which are normally called 'Approaches'. A safe, reliable and economical lightning protective system using Metal-Gapless Arresters (MOA) was developed and tried in the Egyptian Unified Network for different system of voltages at power frequency. This new technique was developed using a Matlab computer program. Optimization was done to select the best arrester for certain industrial application with the minimum cost based on rated voltage, discharge current and location of these arresters with respect to the selected substation. A reduced insulation withstand voltage level for substation was achieved using this novel technique. This new developed technique showed to be an effective tool and useful method to design engineers to select the optimum arrester type with the minimum cost and the safest location.

A new intelligent optimization technique for distribution systems reconfiguration 一种新的配电系统重构智能优化技术

The loss minimization problem is one of the most important problems to save the operational cost in distribution systems. Therefore, more efficient approaches are required to handle such a combinatorial problem. This paper presents an efficient meta-heuristic method for reconfiguration of distribution systems. A Tabu Search (TS) algorithm is used to reconfigure distribution systems so that active power losses are globally minimized with turning on / off sectionalizing switches. TS algorithm is introduced with some modifications such as using a tabu list with variable size according to the system size; this should lead to robust algorithm, and prevent cycling. Also, a random multiplicative move is used in the search process to diversify the search toward unexplored regions. A new method to check the radial topology of the system is presented. The proposed method is applied to 32-node and 69-node distribution systems. The obtained results using the proposed TS approach are compared with results obtained using Simulated Annealing (SA) approach and Parallel Tabu Search (PTS) approach in the previous work to examine the performance.
