Development of a small-scale autonomous UAV for research and development 开发用于研究和开发的小型自主无人机

Since recently, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) have increasingly been recognized as a reliable, and effective means of aerial surveillance. Deployment of UAVs in disaster management for aerial surveillance and real-time video feed, when land access is cut off, is one of the most prominent applications. The ability of small, lightweight UAVs in aerial access and gathering data, in areas that are insecure or impossible for humans to reach has significantly improved remote accessibility. In this research, a new low cost small scale UAV with fully-fledged autopilot system on board the aircraft with the capabilities of following a predefined path and returning home autonomously has been designed, built, and tested successfully. This small-scale UAV is capable of navigating through given GPS coordinates at given altitude, while providing real-time flying status back to the ground control station.

Plantar Pressure Profiler for medical diagnostics 用于医疗诊断的足底压力分析器

The pressure distribution in the sole of the human foot when interacting with a surface (ground) is termed plantar pressure, and is usually measured in the standing position. The plantar pressure distribution or profile is a strong function of the internal anatomy of humans. The profile can undergo changes due to the symptoms of some diseases such as diabetes. An instrument that can accurately measure the plantar pressure profile can serve as an indicator for early diagnostic of the disease and continuous monitoring of the feet of diabetic patients. This paper considers the design and development of such an instrument, a Plantar Pressure Profiler prototype. The plantar pressure profile is measured when a person is standing on a platform that is designed with a 120 sensor array system. The associated data acquisition electronics and visualization software developed for recording the pressure profiles are also described.

H-BFT: A fast Breadth-First Traversal algorithm for Sparse graphs and its GPU implementation H-BFT:稀疏图的快速宽度优先遍历算法及其GPU实现

With Moore's law in effect, as the complexity of digital electronic circuits increases, the amount of time spent by the electronic design automation (EDA) tools to design such circuits also increases. It brings us to the point, where we need to improve the performance of EDA algorithms to fulfil the present and the future requirements of the EDA industry. Out of many algorithms used by these tools, Breadth First Traversal (BFT) is one of the most commonly used algorithms to traverse the gates of electronic circuits. In this paper, we present a new simple, fast and parallelizable BFT algorithm for sparse graphs, named H-BFT. We show that the CPU implementation of H-BFT is about 75× faster than the CPU implementation of the state of the art, the Sparse Matrix-Vector Product (SMVP) based BFT. Further, with the new features introduced by NVIDIA in their GPUs, we have accelerated both the state of the art SMVP based BFT implementation and our new H-BFT implementation. The best speedups we achieved via these accelerations are 180× and 25× for the SMVP-BFT and H-BFT respectively.

Fuzzy logic controller design for an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle 无人机模糊控制器设计

Aircraft design consists of many steps such as an aerodynamic design, structural analysis and flight control design etc. And flight control is one of the crucial design aspects in modern aircrafts. Modern day aircrafts heavily rely on automatic control system for most of the functions and there is always a persistence demand for efficient controllers. There are many control techniques and methods developed in the field of control Engineering. But there are only a few numbers of controllers that we can be relied on. However the conventional techniques only work efficiently for liner system but in the real world, the air craft dynamics are highly non liner and thus there is the need for a controller which works perfectly for non-liner trajectories. Fuzzy logic controller is a non-liner control technique which uses a linguistic approach for controlling, based on some set of membership functions and rules. This research attempts to design a flight controller using a fuzzy logic system.

A case study of Sri Lanka oil price fluctuations and its influencing factors using predictive analytics 斯里兰卡石油价格波动及其影响因素的预测分析案例研究

Oil is one of the most crucial commodity and energy resource that guarantee the evolution of the economy and industry of a country. The price fluctuation of the oil would be the emerging factor to be concerned and discussed generally in political and economic circle in each and every country. In Sri Lanka also the problem would be same when it comes to oil industry and its influencing factors for price fluctuation. This paper provides a comprehensive implementation of data warehousing process for the petroleum industry data set. Based on the data collection, a broad data analysis has been conducted to discover patterns of oil prices and sales variation with respect to the political and economic impact factors of Sri Lanka. Through the analysis, it has proven that the influencing factors would affect to the oil prices and sales accordingly. Furthermore, this aims to present few predictions based on the analysis.

Load management for voltage security using probabilistic fuzzy decision tree method 基于概率模糊决策树方法的电压安全负荷管理

During contingency, load management is most important in planning, monitoring and controlling of power system. In transmission system, there is limit for controlling the reactive power in large size power network. In order to manage heavy loading on transmission, load management is necessary to avoid voltage collapse. This paper presents a methodology for load management considering voltage security assessment using probabilistic fuzzy decision tree (PFDT) technique. By using probabilistic fuzzy decision tree method, the load management is calculated in optimal manner in real time and insecure operating conditions are observed. With the help of this method, a real time load management plan could be provided for insecure states significantly assisting the operator to run the system in a secure manner. Probabilistic fuzzy decision tree examines the voltage security of power system whether it is secure or insecure, and classifies it correctly. After classification, voltages of insecure operating conditions are to be made secure by load management on minimal number of buses. The results of proposed method are analyzed on the IEEE-30 bus system and are presented.

Melody analysis for prediction of the emotions conveyed by Sinhala songs 通过旋律分析预测僧伽罗歌曲所传达的情感

This paper describes our attempt of assessing the capability of music melodies in isolation in order to classify music files into different emotional categories in the context of Sri Lankan music. In our approach, Melodies (predominant pitch sequences) are extracted from songs and the feature vectors are created from them which are ultimately subjected to supervised learning approaches with different classifier algorithms and also with classifier accuracy enhancing algorithms. The models we trained didn't perform well enough to classify songs into different emotions, however they always showed that the melody is an important factor for the classification. Further experiments with melody features along with some non-melody features showed us that those feature combinations perform much better, hence brought us to the conclusion that, even though, the melody plays a major role in differentiating the emotions into different categories, it needs the support of other features too for a proper classification.

Engaging in physical exercises such as weight training and physiotherapy stretching exercises at home requires proper execution and awareness of the exercises. One of the main problems in engaging exercises at home is that there is no proper guidance and feedback provided to align the exercises to the correct movements due to the absence of a physical trainer. This paper discusses how a system, namely Fitness Mate is designed and implemented to enable users to engage in physical exercises without the presence of a physical trainer. Visual C#, Matlab programming language, and Unity game engine are the technologies used to develop the system. The main goal is to provide a home-based environment where people can engage in physical exercise without the presence of a physical trainer and to avoid adverse physical injuries.

The development of a Gesture Controlled Soft Robot gripping mechanism 手势控制软机器人夹持机构的研制

Electro-mechanical and other conventional type grippers are often used in the industry to pick up and handle materials. In many applications the conventional type grippers are not effective enough to handle fragile and soft materials. In this research an elastomer based soft finger mechanism is introduced with hand gesture controlling as a gripping mechanism. Solid Works design of the mold was 3D printed and then using standard manufacturing procedures the Soft Fingers were developed. The Leap Motion Controller and Processing IDE were used to track three fingers and wrist of the hand to control Soft Fingers through the pneumatic control board. A Flex Sensor was used to get the feedback of the amount bent of the soft finger. Hand gestures and Soft fingers were interfaced by an Arduino controller. The testing was performed with three Soft Fingers that connected to imitate Thumb, Index and Middle fingers of hand. The final design was able to imitate the fingers but required more fine tuning to apply for a complex area.

Dynamic line parameter estimation using Synchrophasor Measurements 使用同步相量测量的动态线路参数估计

This paper proposes a novel methodology for the calculation and estimation of transmission line impedance with the use of real time data from synchrophasor measurement units. Current synchrophasor standards do not provide impedance data and must therefore be calculated. The algorithms used in this paper include impedance calculation, outlier detection and elimination as well as denoising using regularized least square estimation. The proposed methodology operates using a small sample size and can therefore be applied in real time to provide operators with instantaneous impedance values from transmission lines. The paper also investigates how changing several methodology parameters can affect the accuracy of the output obtained. The overall methodology as well as these parameters have been tested using real synchrophasor data from an American utility provider.
