Compared with semi-individual or individual cast constructions, fully manufactured post-abutment systems are exposed to stronger torsional loads due to their circular cross-sections. The investigations refer to the question, to what extent different manufactured constructions in the root of a tooth will withstand torsional moments. A cold-pressured connection between titanium-post and titanium-construction was tested as to its mechanical load capacity. Moreover, the mechanical compound stability of individual cast constructions on friction-posts was investigated.

Carrier experiments using Echo- and Influenza-viruses on denture basis resins and fragments of orthodontic appliances resulted in good and even very good virucidal effects of disinfectant sprays Desident and Fesia-sept. The application of the disinfectant as spray seem to be advantageous, but is not recommendable. The diverse causes of this conclusion are discussed and an alternative way is proposed.

Clinical variations of 288 so-called wedge-shaped defects were described at the model and in the clinic in 50 patients aged 21 to 67 years and classified according to depth, profile and en face contour. Defect formation starts in early adult age increasing in dependence on age. The term "wedge-shaped defect" is only partly indicative and incorrect.

The combination of various possibilities for sample preparation and investigation--the tinting penetration method, the ion beam slope cutting, the light and scanning electron microscopy--allow statements at the grind after different drying of the preparation mainly to the bond but also surface and filler shape of glass-ionomer cements. The dentine in the area of enamel-dentine-junction and of superficial root area is effectively closed by Ketac-Bond. Likewise, the bond with cover filling (Visio-Molar) can be considered without gaps except a single case. Crack propagations from the cement surface seem to related to pores and occur independently of type of drying especially in case of mechanical after treatment of already hardened cavity lining [correction of underfilling] material.

By means of the histochemical proof for phenoloxidase (PO, EC 1.14.18.1) 25 patients, seven with periodontitis, the occurrence of PO-positive cells (POC) in the mouth rinse (Sp), crevicular washing fluid (S) and the capillary blood (CB) was examined. An increase and activation of the eosinophil granulocytes (EOS) in probe material (Sp, S and CB) of periodontally diseased patients, as observed in diseased periodontal tissues by several investigators could not be found. Apparently, because the small number and high variability of EOS in the investigated materials the enzyme proof of these materials would not give more informations about this connection.

Among 300 patients 16-35-yr-old 21 of them showed a high individual caries risk. Estimation of caries risk was based on the following criteria: caries experience, sugar consumption, fluoride application, dry mouth, plaque accumulation, secretion rate, buffer capacity and S. mutans and lactobacillus counts in saliva. In case of high caries risk a sure diagnosis and directed preventive-therapeutic intervention depend on a complex consideration of all the risk factors.
