The Laughing Dove (Spilopelia senegalensis) is an adapting city bird that prefers cohabitation with humans in Turkey. We surveyed 161 nests in Antalya between 2017 and 2019. Breeding was recorded throughout the year. While the breeding activity was less during the winter season, fledging and hatching success were 100%. All-year breeding and the high reproduction capacity of the species is regarded a crucial factor for rapid population increase and the expansion of the distribution area in the last decades.

The subfamilies Brachistinae Foerster, 1863 and Helconinae Foerster, 1863 (Hymenoptera; Braconidae) are recorded for the first time for the Egyptian fauna. Each of them is represented by a single species of the genera Triaspis Haliday, 1835, and Helconidea Viereck, 1914, respectively. A new species, Triaspis aegyptiaca Gadallah & Edmardash sp. nov. is described and illustrated. The specimens were collected from Cairo and North Sinai. The Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca complex has a wide distribution in the east and west Palaearctic and comprises phenotypically very similar, but genetically distinct forms. In order to determine the origin of the birds wintering on Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf, we studied the nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene of 23 individuals and compared them with sequences publicly available on Gen-Bank. The birds from Qeshm were attributed to the subspecies S. c. halimodendri, probably breeding in areas of Kazakhstan and China, and formed two distinct clades. As the genetic distance between these groups is very low, it is likely that they represent different populations of the same taxon.

The chromosomes of two species belonging to the scorpion family Iuridae are studied for the first time. Both analysed species displayed achiasmatic meiosis and no morphologically differentiated sex chromosomes; these features are typical for all scorpions. Both species possessed monocentric chromosomes, a characteristic specific to the entire parvorder Iurida. The karyotype of Calchas nordmanni Birula, 1899 is composed of 82 chromosomes, and the diploid number of chromosomes in Neocalchas gruberi is 40. Despite this conspicuous difference in 2n chromosome morphology is mainly acrocentric. Both species possess two pairs of the 18S rDNA clusters identified by FISH. A higher number of rDNA loci may represent an ancestral state for the parvorder Iurida.

Despite the use of traditional morphology as a standard method for species identification, additional methods like image-based analysis can be desirable to differentiate species and populations. In this study, we used traditional morphology and geometric morphometrics (GM) to describe three distinct populations of the genus Spalerosophis and test the hypothesis that all populations are morphologically distinct. A total of 132 specimens were analysed and based on morphological traits (morphometric, meristic, and colour pattern) subcaudal scales was the only distinguishable trait between Spalerosophis diadema cliffordii and Spalerosophis diadema schirasianus. In addition, Spalerosophis atriceps showed significant differences in most studied characters compared to the other two populations. In the geometric morphometric analysis, we placed 2D Landmarks on the dorsal view images of the head of 93 specimens. Canonical variate analysis (CVA) showed significant differences among the head shape of all three populations. There was an increase in the head width, snout length, and curvature in the posterior part of parietals from west Africa in S. d. cliffordii to the north of India in S. atriceps. This may be the result of variations in their environmental factors, diet and the amount of time that has passed since their separation.

A survey of Limoniidae carried out in Ihlara Valley, Inner Anatolia (Turkey) and its neighbourhood in 2015–2016 revealed 41 taxa. Of these, Dicranomyia (Idiopyga) oosterbroeki Devyatkov, 2013 is new for the West Palaearctic region and D. (D.) longipennis Schummel, 1829 new for Turkey. The genital and wing photos of these two species are presented, including the first description of the female of D. oosterbroeki together with distribution and habitat information of the two species.

<p><p>In the last 20 years, several contributions have been published on what concerns the conceptual and empirical connections between self-processes. However, only a limited number of publications addressed the viability of those processes to characterize mental health in neurotypical subjects with a normative pattern of neurodevelopment. Furthermore, even fewer experiments focused explicitly on the complexity of studying neurotypical phenomenal data. On the one hand, this normative pattern is commonly associated with mental health and a multifaceted self-concept and well-being. On the other hand, well-being is often related to a healthy cognitive life. However, how such intricate and complex relation between self-processes is established in neurotypical subjects requires further evidence. The novelty of this work is thus studying the first-person experience, which is correlated with the mental events aroused by a cognitive behavioral intervention. The prior methodology that led to the complete characterization of a neurotypical sample was already published by the authors, although the materials, the methods, the sample screening, and the sample size study required further explanation and exploration. This paper's innovation is hence the phenomenological assessment of subjects' self-regulation, which is used for mental health profiling, providing the basis for subsequent molecular typing. For that matter, a convenience sample of 128 (19-25-year-old) neurotypical young adults, healthy university students at the University of Lisbon, non-medicated and with no serious, uncontrolled, or chronic diseases, are characterized according to their cognitive functioning and self-concept. The procedure comprised (i) a mental status examination (psychological assessment) and (ii) a psychological intervention, i.e., a single cognitive behavioral intervention (intervention protocol). The psychological assessment was a standardized and structured clinical interview, which comprised the use of 4 psychological scales complementary to the classical Mental Status Examination (MSE). The intervention protocol applied a combined exercise of psychophysical training and autobiographical-self memory-recalling. The results permitted identifying and isolating four different subgroups (self awareness, self consciousness, reflective self, and pre-reflective self) in neurotypical subjects with discrete self-processes. However, only a limited number of publications addressed the viability of those processes to characterize mental health in neurotypical subjects with a normative pattern of neurodevelopment. Furthermore, even fewer experiments focused explicitly on the complexity of studying neurotypical phenomenal data. On the one hand, this normative pattern is commonly associated with mental health and a multifaceted self-concept and well-being. On the other hand, well-being is often related to a healthy cognitive life. However, how such intricate and complex relation between self-processes is established in neurotypical subjects requires further evidence. The novelty of this work is thus studying the first-person experience, which is correlated with the mental events aroused by a cognitive behavioral intervention. The prior methodology that led to the complete characterization of a neurotypical sample was already published by the authors, although the materials, the methods, the sample screening, and the sample size study required further explanation and exploration. This paper's innovation is hence the phenomenological assessment of subjects' self-regulation, which is used for mental health profiling, providing the basis for subsequent molecular typing. For that matter, a convenience sample of 128 (19-25-year-old) neurotypical young adults, healthy university students at the University of Lisbon, non-medicated and with no serious, uncontrolled, or chronic diseases, are characterized according to their cognitive functioning and self-concept. The procedure comprised (i) a mental status examination (psychological assessment) and (ii) a psychological intervention, i.e., a single cognitive behavioral intervention (intervention protocol). The psychological assessment was a standardized and structured clinical interview, which comprised the use of 4 psychological scales complementary to the classical Mental Status Examination (MSE). The intervention protocol applied a combined exercise of psychophysical training and autobiographical-self memory-recalling. The results permitted identifying and isolating four different subgroups (self awareness, self consciousness, reflective self, and pre-reflective self) in neurotypical subjects with discrete self-processes. Zamenis persicus (Werner, 1913) is near-endemic to the “South Caspian Circumscripation”, which is covered by Hyrcanian forests, a critical biodiversity hot spot in western Eurasia in terms of their origin and evolutionary history. The present study aims to evaluate the changes in the distribution of Zamenis persicus in the past, current, and future periods. For this purpose, 51 points of presence of species and eight climatic variables were analysed with Maxent software. We used four presence points outside the typical habitat of the species to test the presence of this species in the past in those areas. The most important variable affecting the distribution of the species is annual precipitation. The distribution of this species was more extensive in the past than today and included four test points, Miyaneh, Qom, Sabzevar, and Sarakhs. It seems that with the decline of Hyrcanian forests in the past, this species has shifted to higher latitudes. Predictions also forecasted a possible shrinkage of this species’ range. Climate change and habitat change can have a more severe effect on the remaining habitats of this species.

The first Black-headed Penduline Tit (Remiz macronyx) in Turkey was recorded in April 2022, where it was captured and ringed at the Aras River Ornithological Research Station. This is a poorly studied species with a disjunct range consisting of four subspecies. We provide an overview of how to identify, age, and sex individuals within this species in comparison to the similar Eurasian Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus), as well as insight into the age and sex of our bird, and summarize current knowledge on the taxonomic situation and challenges of identifying this species. This study brings awareness to a poorly known species and can be useful for others that may either be looking for or potentially encounter this species as a vagrant in the Caucasian region.
