Following Periodontal surgery, the site which underwent treatment is always considered as a wound area which has to be healed. This healing process can occur in the form of repair or regeneration. For normal wound healing to happen, the practitioner must understand the concept behind wound healing and possible complications in order to avoid them. With various periodontal therapies available in recent days, the healing pattern also varies with different treatment performed. The goal of this review article is to put forward the outline of periodontal wound healing in order to achieve wound stability and provide a professional treatment for the patient.

Gingival enlargement/ hyperplasia can occur as an isolated form or part of a syndrome and the treatment of choice is gingivectomy. The harmony of the smile is however not only determined by the shape or position of gingiva, but also by aesthetic appearance of the gingival tissues. Thus, in cases of hyperpigmented gingiva, depigmentation treatment modalities strive to balance the harmonious inter-relationship of the pink with white, for an overall perio-aesthetic achievement. We present a case of idiopathic gingival enlargement on palatal aspect of maxillary anterior region of 15- year-old male patient. High melanin deposition was noticed on the labial surface of maxillary anterior gingiva. Laser gingivectomy was performed on palatal aspect of teeth no. 14 to 24 along with depigmentation of gingiva on the labial aspect using a diode laser 980 nm. The diode laser technique produced desired results, and postoperative inflammation and wound healing were observed to be minimal.

Aim: To evaluate the dentist’s knowledge, attitudes, and barriers towards silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in Tricity (Panchkula, Chandigarh, Mohali), India. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a selfadministered online questionnaire among 422 dental practitioners in Tricity (Panchkula, Chandigarh, Mohali), India from 25th August 2021 to 10th September 2021. The outcome variable of the study were knowledge, attitude, and barriers toward Silver Diamine Fluoride. A pretested questionnaire on a 5-point Likert scale was used. Results: A total of 55% of respondents strongly agreed and agreed that SDF is a good treatment option for primary teeth that are not in the esthetic zone. The barrier to its usage is being not readily available commercially, with the highest score of 48%. Conclusion: Increased efforts in SDF education may lead to greater use of this innovative approach to the management of cavitated carious lesions. The most cited barrier to the use of SDF is tooth staining associated with arresting caries.

Endodontically treated teeth which are left unrestored prosthetically are more susceptible to fractures. Such teeth are usually given a poor prognosis and indicated for extraction. But in conditions where the tooth is periodontally sound, various resective procedures are attempted at saving the tooth and retaining it. Bicuspidization is one such procedure which essentially bisects the tooth into 2 parts. In the present case, a molar with a vertical fracture line involving the furcation was managed by bicuspidization and subsequently rehabilitated.

Introduction- The ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak impacts the mental health of patients, health workers, and the public. The level of impact on the mental health of periodontal patients in treatment is unknown. AimThe objective of the present study was to evaluate the psychological stress of periodontal patients who were undergoing treatment during this COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Method- An online survey was conducted on a convenience sample of anonymous participants who were getting treatment done in various dental clinics. The questionnaire comprised of 4 sections. Sections 1-3 included demographic, perception of pandemic and periodontal status of the patients. Section 4 assessed mental health status of periodontal patient. Statistically analysis was done by using descriptive analysis. Result- Questionnaires were collected from 1042 patients (398 males, 644 females). The prevalence of mental distress was 95.48% (995/1042). Higher frequency distributions were associated with female participants. The major cause of anxiety was found to be associated with prolonged treatment duration. Conclusion- Almost all the periodontal patients experienced mental stress during the pandemic. Multiple factors affected the level of anxiety of periodontal patients, such as the delayed treatment, time since last dental visit, manner of communication with the periodontist, and stress of the pandemic progression.

Background: Oral diseases have a significant impact on people's appearance, quality of life, and self-esteem, despite the fact that frequent dental visits aid in early identification, and prevention. In the rural areas, people find it difficult to visit dental care for a variety of reasons, and most times access to dental care is blamed for non-use. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the level of dental service utilization in the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) by inhabitants of the two host communities while highlighting the predisposing factors and barriers to the use of the services. Methodology: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the villages of Ituku and Ozalla hosting the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Enugu State. A minimum sample size of 138 was calculated for each community yielding a total of 276. Information obtained from 69 households (2 per household) using a 21-question semistructured questionnaire include demographic characteristics, oral health awareness, dental service utilization, and barriers to service utilization. Data analysis was done with SPSS software version 20, and the Chi-square test identified differences between groups with the level of significance set at p ≤0.05. Results: The study involved 278 villagers aged 18 to 80 years, 140(50.4 %) were from Ozalla and 138(48.6%) from Ituku Community; 119/138 (86.2%) and 130/140 (92.9%) were aware of a dental clinic respectively. Also, 58/278 (20.9%) of the participants had previously used dental services at UNTH: [22 (37.9%) Ituku and 36 (62.1%) Ozalla (p=0.045)], but only 12/58 visited the clinic in the year prior to the study, so the utilization rate was only 20.6%. Scaling and polishing 29/58 (50.0%), and filling 20/58 (34.5%) were the popular treatments/services. The main reasons for seeking care at UNTH were severe pain 41/58 (70.7%) and inability to eat 17/58 (29.3 %). Lack of perceived need was the most prevalent barrier 101 /220 (45.9%) to using dental services, followed by unawareness of a dental clinic in UNTH for 38/220 (17.3%). The Association between awareness of the dental clinic and its utilization shows that it was exclusively among those who were aware (p< 0.001). Conclusion: There was a very low level of utilization of dental services at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital by dwellers of the host communities. However, awareness rather than access or distance to the hospital was key in influencing the visits with pain as the most compelling reason for attendance. Promotion of more platforms for enlightenment by all means with an emphasis on preventive approaches rather than symptom-driven visits is recommended.

In the rural areas, people find it difficult to visit dental care for a variety of reasons, and most times access to dental care is blamed for non-use. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the level of dental service utilization in the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) by inhabitants of the two host communities while highlighting the predisposing factors and barriers to the use of the services. Methodology: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the villages of Ituku and Ozalla hosting the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Enugu State. A minimum sample size of 138 was calculated for each community yielding a total of 276. Information obtained from 69 households (2 per household) using a 21-question semistructured questionnaire include demographic characteristics, oral health awareness, dental service utilization, and barriers to service utilization. Data analysis was done with SPSS software version 20, and the Chi-square test identified differences between groups with the level of significance set at p ≤0.05. Results: The study involved 278 villagers aged 18 to 80 years, 140(50.4 %) were from Ozalla and 138(48.6%) from Ituku Community; 119/138 (86.2%) and 130/140 (92.9%) were aware of a dental clinic respectively. Also, 58/278 (20.9%) of the participants had previously used dental services at UNTH: [22 (37.9%) Ituku and 36 (62.1%) Ozalla (p=0.045)], but only 12/58 visited the clinic in the year prior to the study, so the utilization rate was only 20.6%. Scaling and polishing 29/58 (50.0%), and filling 20/58 (34.5%) were the popular treatments/services. The main reasons for seeking care at UNTH were severe pain 41/58 (70.7%) and inability to eat 17/58 (29.3 %). Lack of perceived need was the most prevalent barrier 101 /220 (45.9%) to using dental services, followed by unawareness of a dental clinic in UNTH for 38/220 (17.3%). The Association between awareness of the dental clinic and its utilization shows that it was exclusively among those who were aware (p< 0.001). Conclusion: There was a very low level of utilization of dental services at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital by dwellers of the host communities. However, awareness rather than access or distance to the hospital was key in influencing the visits with pain as the most compelling reason for attendance. Promotion of more platforms for enlightenment by all means with an emphasis on preventive approaches rather than symptom-driven visits is recommended.","PeriodicalId":240291,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dentistry Research","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121757068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

James J Hilgers of california introduced the Pendulum Appliance in 1992 as mechanism for Class II non complaince treatment. The appliance uses a nance acrylic button for palatal anchorage and 0.036” TMA springs to deliver a light and continuous force to upper molars distalization without affecting palatal button [1]. Pendulum appliance can also be used for molar protraction both unilateral or bilateral by reversing the spring bend back and activating towards the molar to be protracted.
