Upstream characteristics of tunable WDM-PON system for deployment in Malaysia 可调谐WDM-PON系统在马来西亚部署的上游特性

The evolution of access network technology utilizing Passive Optical Network (PON) has provided a means for high speed broadband to be effectively implemented in Malaysia through FTTH technology. As the bandwidth demand and number of subscribers is increasing, WDM-PON is considered the best candidate for future deployment. On the same note, this paper presents the development of tunable 16 channels WDM-PON system, focusing on the colourless ONU's uplink signal transmission. This system is utilizing a software controlled tunable transceiver in both OLT and ONU, thus would enable colourless mode of operation. A 16 channels wavelength plan has also been defined for the upstream and downstream communication. Besides that, an athermal AWG is introduced in the network for wavelengths multi/de-multiplexing operation. An experimental setup has been made to simulate an optical modulated upstream signal from the colourless ONU to the OLT. The resulting upstream signals will be analyzed and characterized based on the availability, distance, optical received power as well as its quality on BER and the eye diagram. The results show that the ability of the developed tunable WDM-PON system to operate at 2.5Gbps for the upstream transmission and should be able to support the future plan of WDM-PON deployment in Malaysia.

Electrocardiographic signal detection using self-mixing interferometer technique with customized electro-optic phase modulator 自混合干涉仪技术与定制电光相位调制器的心电图信号检测

This paper demonstrates the viability of using self-mixing interferometer technique with a customized electro-optic phase modulator to detect the electrocardiographic signals on surface skin. The signals were recorded under two different optical feedback levels where the self-mixing technique operated under strong optical feedback regime was preferred due to the clear advantage of stability and linear relationship between the input and output signal.

Characterization of Raman gain for different gain medium 不同增益介质的拉曼增益特性

By using different fiber types as gain medium such as 500 m HNLF, 215 cm Bi-EDF, 7.2 km DCF, 11 km DCF, 18.2 km DCF, as well as the composition of Bi-EDF with 11 km DCF and finally the composition of Bi-EDF with the 18.2 km DCF, Raman gain was characterized and measured by the same set up as proposed in our study. The results revealed that the composition of Bi-EDF with the 18.2 km DCF provided the highest effective Raman gain among the other fibers investigated.

Thermal analysis of multi-chip cool white HPLED with thermal transient tester and thermal imaging camera 用热瞬态测试仪和热成像仪对多芯片冷白色HPLED进行热分析

The junction temperature of an light emitting diode package (LED) is a parameter of consequence as electrical and optical characteristics of the packages progressive decline with increment in the junction temperature. This paper is to compare the temperature rise in p-n junction of a four-chip cool white high power light emitting diode (HPLED) by using thermal transient tester (T3ster) and thermal imaging camera (TIC) under open air condition. The measured electrical thermal resistance of the HPLED package through cumulative structure function is 3.753K/W. The optical power of the cool white HPLED package is 1.30W and is used to calculate the real thermal resistance of the package. The obtained junction temperature rise of the package by using thermal transient testing is compatible with the thermal imaging method. The measured temperature rise in the p-n junction is 16.270°C while the recorded junction temperature rise by using the camera is 16.500°C.

All fiber optical band-pass filter using macro-bending approach 全光纤带通滤波器采用宏弯曲方式

A new method for optical bandpass filters using macro bending approach is proposed. The proposed optical bandpass filter leverages on bending loss of higher order modes for shorter wavelengths. For longer wavelengths, the filter banks on fiber bending loss as the fundamental mode `tail' is lost in the cladding. The combination of wavelength dependent loss at longer and shorter wavelength gives rise to the optical bandpass filter characteristics. We report both simulation and experimental results, which demonstrates agreement in the spectral response.

Fiber Bragg grating sensor for detecting ageing transformer oil 用于变压器油老化检测的光纤光栅传感器

In this paper, we report the investigation of monitoring the degradation of transformer oil in power transformer using fiber Bragg grating sensor (FBG). The findings show that aging transformer oil has a higher refractive index (RI) compared to fresh transformer oil. This is detected by a wavelength shift in the FBG sensor's spectral response. The outcome complies with the breakdown voltage test which is the standard test for testing transformer oil ageing. Finally, we show that the sensor is temperature independent.

Triple-play services using different detection techniques for SAC-OCDMA systems 使用不同检测技术的SAC-OCDMA系统的三重播放服务

The development of many high bit-rate multimedia applications has emphasized the demand for service differentiation or prioritization techniques to ensure end-user quality-of-service (QoS) necessities. This paper focuses on utilizing different detection schemes in spectral-amplitude coding optical code-division multiple-access (SAC-OCDMA) systems to support `triple-play' services (voice, video, and data) with diverse QoS requirements. The used subtraction detection techniques are complementary, AND, as well as modified-AND. Modified double-weight (MDW) codes are used as the signature codes for SAC-OCDMA systems. The simulation results show that modified-AND subtraction detection demonstrates better performance over other detection approaches.

Performance and dispersion analysis for 40GHz multi wavelength optical carriers for radio over fiber system 光纤无线通信系统中40GHz多波长光载波性能及色散分析

This paper presents optical system analysis on 40GHz multi wavelength optical carriers for radio over fiber using double side band optical suppressed carrier. Since this simulation model deployed data rate transmission at 40Gbps, therefore the dispersion factor has to be included in the system analysis. The post-dispersion compensation scheme is used in this model to compensate the dispersion along the 30 km transmission fiber length.

Performance comparison of different detection techniques in long-haul fiber SAC-OCDMA systems 远距离光纤SAC-OCDMA系统中不同检测技术的性能比较

Progress in fiber optic technology have made long-haul communications systems reach distance that were once unheard of. This distance is made possible by using modulation techniques that do not require a complex link design which best applied in spectral-amplitude coding optical code-division multiple access (SAC-OCDMA) system. In this paper, we investigate the use of different detection schemes namely the modified-AND subtraction detection as well as AND subtraction detection for SAC-OCDMA systems. We simulate the system performance of the mentioned detection approaches using OptiSystem7.0 software. The entire effects of fiber nonlinearities, dispersion and attenuation were considered in the simulation of SAC-OCDMA systems. Based on modified double weight (MDW) codes, the simulation results revealed that the modified-AND subtraction detection improves SAC-OCDMA system performance significantly compared to the conventional AND subtraction detection. Moreover, for the same quality of service (QoS) for bit-error rate (BER) of 10-20 and data rate of 622 Mbps, modified-AND subtraction detection allows longer transmission distance of 30 % in the fiber length as compared to AND detection.

Gigabit-Passive Optical Network (GPON) is the key technology for today's PON. A hybrid GPON is a hybrid passive optical network, where WDM and TDM are integrated into a single passive optical network, with aims to increase both the cost effectiveness and link capacity. In this paper, 2.5-Gb/s hybrid WDM/TDM downstream link is presented, using RoF technique in the GPON network architecture. 8-DPSK modulation is utilized by using 2.4 GHz radio frequency. The simulation results show that signals are capable to propagate along 25 km standard SMF where up to 64 users are supported.
