Effect of double-pass and single-pass architecture in Brillouin-Raman fiber laser 双通道和单通道结构对布里渊-拉曼光纤激光器的影响

We experimentally investigate effect of double pass and single pass configuration in multi-wavelength Brillouin-Raman fiber laser in a linear cavity. Up to 110 flat amplitude multi-wavelengths Brillouin Stokes with spacing of 0.16 nm within wavelength range of 1554 to 1570 nm in single pass configuration are generated. The generated wavelengths with OSNR 25 dB compared with that of double pass architecture. Single space configuration has a superior performance due to double line spacing, higher OSNR, wider bandwidth and high stability than that of double pass configuration. Lasing lines in double pass has 0.08 nm space due to the increment of Rayleigh scattering in double pass configuration.

Nano-engineered glass based optical fiber for fiber laser 光纤激光器用纳米工程玻璃基光纤

We have developed the technology for making of dielectric nano-particles doped nano-engineered glass based optical fibers. Two kinds of dielectric nano-particles (DNP) containing silica glass based Yb2O3 doped fibers are made successfully through solution doping (SD) technique. One: Yb2O3 doped yttria-rich alumino-silica nano-particles based optical fiber developed during drawing of D-shaped low RI resin coated large mode area (LMA) optical fiber from the modified preform which annealed at 1450-1550°C for 3 hours under heating and cooling rates of 20°C/min and other: Yb2O3 doped zirconia-germanium-alumino (ZGA) rich yttria-silica nano-particles based optical fibers developed during drawing of normal RI coated single mode optical fiber from the modified preform which annealed at 1000-1100°C for 3 hours under heating and cooling rates of 20°C/min. Fabrication of Yb2O3 doped yttria-rich alumino-silica nano-particles based D-shaped low RI coated large core optical fibers having core diameter around 20.0-30.0 micron was made. The size of DNP nano-particles was maintained within 5-10 nm under doping of 0.20 mole% of fluorine. The start fiber preforms are studied by means of EPMA, EDX, and electron diffraction analyses, revealing phase-separated nano-sized ytterbium-rich areas in their cores. There is a great need to engineer the composition as well as doping levels of different elements within the core glass during the preform making stages to generate phase-separated Yb2O3 doped DNP nano particles in the fiber. The matter concentrates on making of Yb2O3 doped DNP containing optical fibers along with material characterizations, study of spectroscopic properties, photo-darkening phenomena and lasing characteristics. Such kind of nano-engineered glass based optical fibers shows good lasing efficiency with improved photodarkening phenomena compared to the standard silica glass based fiber.

Nonlinear photonic crystal with negative index materials 负折射率非线性光子晶体

We study the effects of dispersionless magnetic and dielectric materials on the optical nonlinear response of periodic photonic crystal composed of finite bilayers, particularly the transmitted and reflected second harmonic spectra. When both real permittivity and permeability are having negative sign simultaneously, interesting effects on second harmonic electric fields are observed. Strong backward SH field is observed in negative refractive index photonic crystal compared with conventional photonic crystal. The direction of the second harmonic wave can be controlled by engineered negative refractive index, useful for designing optical steering devices.

A mounting method on configuring a wavelength-voltage relation of an optical tunable bandpass filter (TBF) for actuation & control 一种配置用于驱动和控制的光可调谐带通滤波器(TBF)的波长电压关系的安装方法

Although commercial tunable optical filters with integrated electronic controls are available, it costs much more than a manually tunable filter. This paper aims to demonstrate a simple procedure on mounting a manually tunable bandpass filter (TBF), with a mathematical model to represent the relation between the sensor's output and the central wavelength of the filter. A position sensor is used to match the central wavelength of the filter and the sensor's output. This results in a simple mount to actuate the TBF and the position of the wavelength is simply translated in terms of the output voltage. Although the accuracy of the system is not commercial grade, a rudimentary setup with promising results can be observed. We present the mount using very simple components, utilizing motorized actuation, with an analog voltage output which can bear any desired resolution for digitization. Finally, a mathematical model is developed to represent the wavelength-voltage relation. This setup paves way for researchers to log the central wavelength from tunable filters without the need for any equipment, at a much lower cost compared to its commercial counterparts.

This paper presents the analysis of a coupler based NRZ-DQPSK all-optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system with a rate of 80 Gb/s. The transmission line used is SSMF that is over 1000 km long with 21 km DCF for each span. The performance of the system is characterized in terms of BER, eye diagram and Q values. The power tolerance of the system as a function of fiber dispersion is also surveyed.

Two different locations of Erbium Doped Fiber (EDF) in dual ring configuration to generate double frequency shifted of multiwavelength Brillouin Erbium fiber laser (BEFL) have been investigated. The experimental results show that the location of EDF has important roles to determine the number of output Stoke signals and tuning range. Beside the Erbium gain, the Brillouin gain also contributes to the performance of BEFL. By putting the EDFA next to the BP, more Stokes lines with wider tuning range were obtained compare by putting the EDF next to the gain medium was observed.

Single quantum dot-photonic crystal nanocavity laser 单量子点光子晶体纳米腔激光器

We demonstrate laser oscillation in InAs/GaAs single quantum dot (SQD) and photonic crystal nanocavity coupled systems. The coupled SQD provides most of the gain and distinct SQD feature is observed in the photon statistics. Depending on the light-matter coupling strength, laser oscillation starts in the weak- or strong-coupling regime. It is significant that the polariton doublet is still observed at the threshold pump power in the strongly coupled system. This fact indicates that the coherent exchange of quanta between the SQD and the cavity is still sustained under laser oscillation in the intermediate state.

The wavelength-time modified double weight (MDW) optical division multiple access (OCDMA) scheme to reduce multiple access interference (MAI) and compensate bit error rate (BER) and phase-induced intensity noise (PIIN) in incoherent OCDMA systems is proposed. The analysis permits thorough understanding of PIIN, shot and thermal noises effect on 2-Dimensional (2-D) MDW OCDMA system performance. PIIN is the dominant noise factor in the OCDMA time-spreading scheme. The 2-D MDW code shows better tolerance to PIIN in comparison to others with enhanced system performance. We prove by numerical analysis that the PIIN is maximally suppressed by the proposed code through minimizing property of cross-correlation in comparison to the 2-D PDC and 2-D MQC OCDMA code.

Effect of Raman pump direction on conventional multiwavelength Brillouin-Raman fiber laser 拉曼泵浦方向对常规多波长布里渊-拉曼光纤激光器的影响

We have experimentally investigated the effects of Raman pump direction on the performance of multiwavelength Brillouin-Raman fiber laser. Comparison of Raman gain profiles at different Raman pump direction demonstrates higher gain in backward-pumping scheme than that in the forward pumping configuration. 192 channels at the typical Brillouin shifted frequency spacing of 10 GHz are attained through backward pumping due to the higher Raman gain. On the other hand, forward-pumping scheme produces better optical signal-to-noise ratio of 26 dB with 20 GHz channel spacing.

We report experimental results demonstrating the stimulated Brillouin scattering threshold (SBSTH) features in multiwavelength Brillouin-Raman fiber laser against Raman pump power (RPP) variation. The reduction of SBSTH is attributed to the Raman amplification on each of oscillated Brillouin pump power (OBP) and generated Stokes signals. The saturation in SBSTH is owing to the RPP depletion, this saturation is coincides with the appearance of Raman peak gain. In addition, the red shift effect became significant at RPP beyond 650mW and led to degradation of the Raman amplification. This degradation appeared as an increase in SBSTH after the saturation region. Moreover, the Brillouin Stokes comb can be generated only at the saturation region of the Raman amplification between 350 to 600 mW of Raman pump.
