Directional UHF near-field RFID reader antenna with an improved magnetic field distribution 改进磁场分布的定向超高频近场RFID读取器天线

In this paper, a directional ultra-high frequency (UHF) near-field radio frequency identification (RFID) reader antenna is designed with an improved magnetic field distribution. Utilizing a high impedance surface (HIS) as a reflector, the proposed segmented grid-loop antenna shows a significant improvement compared with the benchmark example in terms of a more evenly distributed and stronger magnetic field.

Cluster of tweet users based on optimal set 基于最优集的推文用户聚类

Over the years or even decades, researchers are dealing with the problem of duplicate clusters or overlapping clusters in a cluster set. Clusters overlap within each other just as in the case of social networking groups, or grouping movies by genre. In this paper, hierarchical form of clustering is used to cluster user based on interaction which creates numerous clusters with different sizes at different hierarchical level. In doing so, many overlapping clusters are generated but duplicates are not removed. Duplicity possesses a challenge for differentiation. Our work here is two fold. Firstly, to cluster users with different hierarchical levels to generate sets of clusters by level and secondly, to find among the different cluster sets the optimal one by simply using mean and standard deviation. The sense of optimality is different for different requirements. Our work shows that we can have a choice of picking the optimal set by requirement.

A study on voltage equilibration circuit of EDLC using self-oscillation circuit 采用自振荡电路的EDLC电压平衡电路的研究

This study proposes a voltage equilibration circuit with a self-oscillation circuit for application to electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs). In typical monitoring circuits, multiple EDLCs are connected in series and the circuits are connected to a power supply. In contrast, the proposed circuits uses a self-oscillation technique, and its voltage is supplied by the EDLC, greatly simplifying the circuit structure. In particular, the circuit comprises only 15 electrical components and self-oscillates without a dead-time control circuit. Moreover, the circuit prevents the flow of the short-circuit current into the drains of the FETs. which causes overcurrent circuit damage. Further, the circuit can be constructed into a module of two serially connected EDLCs. The characteristics and usability of the proposed circuit are evaluated in a simulation and experiment.

Multi-wavelength Brillouin Erbium Fiber laser with Pulsing characteristics 具有脉冲特性的多波长布里渊铒光纤激光器

A multi-wavelength Brillouin Erbium Fiber laser (BEFL) with single Brillouin frequency spacing and pulsing characteristics is demonstrated. The proposed multi-wavelength BEFL uses two optical circulators to route the Brillouin Stokes and Brillouin pump (BP) into the cavity. Multi-wavelength combs with 20 lines and spacing of 0.086 nm is obtained by using the non-zero dispersion shifted fiber (NZ-DSF) as the Brillouin gain medium (BGM) and 5 lines with 0.079 nm spacing with 500 m long SMF. Pulsing characteristic is also observed in both multi-wavelength BEFLs. The measured repetition rate are in the kilohertz range due to the long cavity.

SDH: Self Detection and Healing mechanism for dumb nodes in Wireless Sensor Network 无线传感器网络中哑节点的自检测与自愈机制

In real life deployment, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) often experience adverse environmental conditions. Due to these adverse environmental conditions sensor nodes can behave as dumb. Dumb nature is a temporary misbehavior of a sensor node caused by the temporal nature of adverse environmental conditions. In this paper, we present a Self Detection and Healing (SDH) mechanism to overcome the existence of such misbehaving nodes. Self detection mechanism brings environmental awareness to the nodes. Whereas, Self healing infers and applies the most suitable transmission parameters under the above said environmental conditions. Performance analysis shows that self detection mechanism can work with more than 80% accuracy in all test cases. On the other hand, self healing can increase 67% network throughput by overcoming the existence of dumb nodes. Self detection and healing is also an energy efficient solution. It consumes 25% less power than the distributed approach of dumb node detection.

Bayesian prediction of the duration of non-recurring road incidents 非经常性道路事故持续时间的贝叶斯预测

Traffic incidents such as accidents or vehicle breakdowns are one of the major causes of traffic congestion in urban areas. Consequently, accurate prediction of duration of these incidents is considered as one of the most important challenges by traffic management authorities. Although data-driven regression methods can predict the duration of these incidents with reasonable precision. However, the prediction performance may vary considerably from one to another. Hence, it is important to provide some measure of confidence associated with the forecast duration of the incidents. Such measures can prove to be highly useful in planning real-time response. To address this issue, we propose Bayesian Support Vector Regression (BSVR), which gives error bars as the measurement of uncertainty along with the predicted duration of incidents. We also evaluate sensitivity and specificity for different error tolerance limit to assess the performance of BSVR.

A dynamic voltage restorer based on voltage balanced back-to-back stacked multicell converter with equal voltage sources 一种基于等电压源电压平衡背靠背堆叠多电池变换器的动态电压恢复器

Voltage sags and swells are one of the major power quality problems in distributed system. This paper presents a dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) based on the voltage-balanced back-to-back stacked multicell converter (B2B-SMC) with equal voltage sources topology, is easy to implement, and can be easily extended for the increased number of levels. The advantages of the B2B-SMC over flying capacitor multilevel converter (FCC) and stacked multicell converter (SMC) are increased number of levels in the output voltage, low voltage total harmonic distortion (THD), lower switching losses, and reduced filter requirement. The B2B-SMC consists of two conventional stacked multicell converter (SMC), which are connected back-to-back using two low-switching frequency switches. Simulation results of a DVR based on the 17-level voltage balanced B2B-SMC are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed DVR topology.

Studies on the performance of a Gunn oscillator based demodulator system in presence of chaos modulated signal 混沌调制信号存在下基于Gunn振荡器的解调系统性能研究

We have studied experimentally and numerically the performance of a Gunn oscillator (GO) based demodulator system in the presence of chaos modulated signal. A free running GO is used as an FM modulator employing bias tuning technique. At the demodulator side, a phase discriminator circuit is used to recover the transmitted chaotic signal. The obtained results confirm that the chaotic modulating signal can be detected by keeping the frequency of the GO at the demodulator section at any value within the lock-in bandwidth of the GO.

Genesys: A Virtual Reality scene builder Genesys:虚拟现实场景构建器

Virtual Reality (VR) is a computer technology which simulates real world environments and a user's interactions within it. Current trends in VR, however, are focused on the gaming industry with limited work on VR creation tools. Thus, we propose a VR application that allows users to create 3-dimensional scenes in virtual reality named Genesys. Scenes created are viewed with the use of VR head mounted displays which provide the user with a more immersive work environment compared to traditional 2D monitors. Interactions within this workspace are done through motion controllers that allow users to manipulate with objects and spawn more from an online repository. Scenes created can be shared to the Genesys community of artists, creators and users through an online website. This feature widens the project's applications in education, business, and entertainment as a world builder and presentation tool. To measure the effectiveness of the application, a scene composition test was conducted at the end of the experiment. The results showed that Genesys is generally easy to use for people with limited experience in VR. However, improvements can still be made on the object manipulation controls such as rotation and scaling.

System voltage and frequency control using DFIG based Wind Energy Conversion System 系统电压和频率控制采用基于DFIG的风能转换系统

The penetration of wind power in electrical power systems has been increasing at an unprecedented rate. Hence, the wind generators can be expected to behave more like the conventional generators. A doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) has two converters connected to the rotor winding which can be useful in supplying additional active and reactive power to the system during system frequency and voltage sag respectively. This paper proposes to use two separate current control loops on the Machine Side Converter to supply additional active power during system frequency distortions and to reduce the transients in stator voltage after clearing the system voltage dips. In so far we have proposed the design of a current controller on the Grid Side Converter (GSC) to bring the system voltage level to the desired level during the system voltage sag condition. The result and concepts has been validated using MATLAB/SIMULINK environment.
