Multimedia communication system design encounters great challenges in network congestion and delay sensibility issues. Multiple description coding system has recently emerged as a desirable framework for robust multimedia data transmission over the unreliable channels. This paper presents a prediction method of a lost label during transmission called lost label prediction algorithm in order to improve performance of side decoders when there always two of the three channels successfully transmitting the data. The lost label is predicted by putting on the nearest sublattice point between the two available labels. Simulation results show that the improved three descriptions lattice vector quantization system provides lower distortion and better reconstruction quality.

This paper presents a ThinICA-CSP1 algorithm for discrimination of multiclass motor imagery (MI) movements for Brain Computer Interfacing (BCI) applications. This algorithm performs a joint approximate diagonalization of the second and higher order statistics of the observations with the aim of identifying the relevant independent components of the EEG signals and their corresponding spatial filters. In order to speed up the convergence, the algorithm is initialized from the multiclass Common Spatial Pattern (CSP) filter matrix. This helps the ICA algorithm to find the closest solution to the problem. The algorithm was tested on BCI competition IV dataset 2a and the obtained performance was compared with two existing methods. An improvement in classification performance is observed using the ThinICA-CSP algorithm.

The hybrid magnetic bearing using permanent magnets and the high temperature bulk super conductor (HTS) is developed. Pinning force of the HTS is used to generate levitation and guidance force. The dynamic characteristics of the rotor in the hybrid system are studied. The rotor which is supported by the hybrid magnetic bearing rotates up to 5,000 rpm. Then, the vibration of the rotor is measured until the end of the resonance state. Three-dimensional FEM analysis of flux of the systems is undertaken. The relationship between the static characteristics and the dynamic ones of the rotor is considered, and experimental results of the hybrid system is compared with that of the non-hybrid one. In the hybrid system, the flux of the permanent magnet of the rotor is attracted by the stator one. Therefore, vibration of the hybrid system is shown to be smaller than that of the non-hybrid one.

Hybrid renewable energy is an emerging notable choice in microgrids' formation to overcome the problem of intermittency that is usually raised while using a single renewable energy source. Generally, the hybrid renewable energy source produce DC power, which is to be converted to AC power to supply to loads and integrating with utility grid. Hence, the efficacy of a microgrid relies on its DC/AC power conversion. For DC/AC conversion, the contemporary research work focuses on the design of power electronics based static multilevel inverter configurations and the traditional electrical machines based retrofitted configurations. However, all these static and rotary inverter configurations possess their inherent limitations, which affect the fruitful operation of the microgrid. Keeping this conviction in mind, this paper analyzes the effect of static and rotary inverters on the microgrid operation. For the analysis, total system's modeling and simulations are performed using MATLAB/Simulink® tool. Various performance indices are obtained for the considered static/rotary inverters and presented a comprehensive analysis as a result.

This paper proposes a new optimization method for distribution system, that method includes combinational problem (CP) as factor in multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP). Increasing load demands and deep penetration of distributed generators (DGs) using renewable energy sources (RESs) has been a cause of concern to protect the smart grid. System. As a t, it causes voltage deviation and reverses power flow. In order to solve these problem, protection devices have to be installed in distribution system. However, it is necessary to consider multi objects to realize safety system, generally these objects are also conflicting with each other. Moreover, it is also important problem to calculate operating cost and finding optimal placement of control devices. This proposed method provides an application for distribution system.

Fraud on the event logs derived from business process is known as event log-based fraud. Fraud detection using event logs employs process mining technique, notably conformance checking analysis. This study proposes a method for rating event log-based fraud datasets using fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP), a well-known multicriteria decision-making method. Earlier studies proposed that interval type-2 fuzzy set provides an alternative in handling uncertainty than type-1 fuzzy set. Therefore, we utilize interval type-2 fuzzy sets in fuzzy AHP in order to manage vagueness in many linguistic judgement. This study includes linguistic hedges implementation to modify the membership function of expert valuation. The experimental results showed comparable types of membership function shape and its obtained accuracy performance. Obtained accuracy from fuzzy type-1 AHP method achieved 94% for triangular membership function shape and 93.9% for interval type-2 fuzzy AHP. Although there was no escalation in accuracy after applying interval-valued fuzzy sets for all scenarios, the rank of fraud weight in each feature were altered.

In this paper, an advanced receiver design based on DVB-S2 standard is proposed for satellite downlink transmission over the X-band, which is capable of supporting over one Gbps high data rate transmission on a 375 MHz bandwidth without the need to tackle the rain fade effect. We illustrate its baseband design and implementation details including frame detection, timing and frequency synchronization, and phase recovery. Our fixed point based simulation results show that the proposed design is able to achieve promising performance under realistic frequency offset and phase noise setting.

A Wireless Sensor Network consists of a cluster of sensor nodes connected by a wireless medium to carry out distributed sensing tasks. The resources in these nodes are restricted in terms of processing, storage, and energy supplies. As the sensor nodes rely on low power batteries for their life, energy efficiency is utmost importance for the majority of its applications. Agriculture is one of the biggest industries where the cost-effective wireless sensor technology is effectively applied to support its functions. Clustering is one of the ways to achieve energy efficiency in such networks. In clustered network, few nodes play the role of cluster heads, summative the data from their members, and pass on them to the sink for further processing. In this work, a distance based grid clustering approach (DC) is proposed that considers energy efficiency as a system-wide problem to focuses on enhancing the overall stability of operation of a network. In addition, two other approaches for cluster head selection based on the node with largest id (LC) and the node with the smallest id (SC) within the cluster is also implemented. The proposed approach gives better performance than the other two other approaches implemented.

The research relates to tomography technique based on electrical mass properties measurement. This study proposed electronic design of read out circuit (ROC) for signal processing in electrical capacitance tomography. The method is to capture the excitation and detection signal simultaneously using high speed analog-to-digital-converter (ADC) then save its reading to first-in-first-out (FIFO) memory. From the two signals, magnitude and phase can be determined. Therefore, calculation of capacitance and conductivity of object inside sensor is done using math equation.

Power system is undergoing profound changes such as Distributed Generation, microgrid and then Smart Grid. One of the biggest challenges in it is integration renewable energy sources with conventional DGs for reliable operation of microgrid. An optimization algorithm for reducing total cost considering inter-area power flow limit and reserve capacities is developed and implemented. Power reference points were obtained for each DG with mixed power flow control for cost effective and reliable operation of microgrid. Numerical experiment was performed in MATLAB 2012 using Direct Search Technique.
