The effects of short time-transients of additive noise present over some specific active regions in speech utterances cannot be captured in features computed over an entire speech utterance. Thus the uses of multiple time-scale estimates of auditory features have been sought in this work for non-intrusive speech quality evaluation. It is capable in capturing the time localized information of short-time transient distortions and their distinction from plosive sounds of speech. The features are computed from the combination of different active speech regions of a speech utterance using multi-resolution auditory model (MRAM) on frame-by-frame basis. The voice activity detection (VAD) algorithm has been used for the selection of active speech regions and rejection of silence region from the speech utterance. The multiple time-scale MRAM features are probabilistically modelled to map into mean opinion score (MOS) value using Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) for each combination of active speech regions. The average value of these multiple time-scale estimates MOS values of the different combinations of active speech regions give the overall objective MOS value of a degraded speech utterance. The results are given in terms of correlation coefficient between the subjective MOS and the overall objective MOS. The results are also compared with the ITU-T Recommendation P.563, the standard for non-intrusive speech quality assessment for telephone band speech.

This paper deals with a multi-pulse AC-DC converter that generate DC output voltage having 16 pulsations, fed from orthogonally connected transformers. The orthogonal supply voltages are obtained from the special transformer connection called Scott connection. In this paper the two configurations, canonical and non-canonical arrangements, which are suitable for 16-pulse generation are modelled and analysed. The output voltage ripples are small and the total harmonic distortion in input current (THDi) is also improved compared to the conventional 6-pulse and 12-pulse AC-DC converters.

This paper introduces a technique for designing an optimized matched wavelet by fractionally delaying the coefficients of the matched filter (FDMW). The method is an extension to Matched Wavelets Design process where the filter coefficients are statistically matched to the non-stationary discrete data. Filter coefficients obtained for such unit delay matched filters (UDW) have been fractionally delayed. Fractionally delayed filter coefficients are used to design Matched Wavelet followed by computation of the energy compaction ratio. The results show a significant improvement in the compression using FDMW over UDW. Designed FDM wavelets have lower energy compaction ratio and higher compression rate than given Unit Delay Wavelets.

The quickly expanding influence of individual cell phones (cell phones, tablets, and so on.) is giving much wealthier substance and social collaborations to clients on the move [2].The late distributed computing innovation, with its rich assets to make up for the requirements of cell phones and associations, can presumably give a perfect stage to bolster the predefined versatile administrations. It is instinctive and normal for clients to socially associate with their teammates or rivals in multi-party conferencing. Such social associations ought to be bounteous extra unconstrained to clients in these applications [4]. In this paper, we discuss about the various techniques in cloud computing, future advances and how these techniques will lead to the ultimate news application which with the collaboration of all will be literally a life saver.

The present work deals with the active power rescheduling in an hour-ahead electricity market including solar energy based power generation. The schedules of various generators have been optimized according to active power demand bids by various load buses and availability of solar energy. In this work, various aspects such as congestion management, voltage deviation, and loss minimization have also been taken into consideration to achieve the goal. The interior point (IP) based optimal power flow (OPF) methodology has been used to obtain the economic system operation. The IP-based OPF methodology has been tested on a modified IEEE-30 bus system. The obtained test results show that not only the generation cost is reduced also the available transfer capabilities of transmission lines have also been improved.

This paper presents comparative analysis of different controller configuration for speed control of separately excited DC motor. The main aim of this paper is to obtain optimize speed characteristics of DC motor drive by minimizing transient response specification such as rise time, settling time and overshoot. The speed control of DC motor is done using PID, Fuzzy and ANFIS controller Configuration. PID controller tuning parameters are obtained using Ziegler Nicholas (ZN) and Modified Ziegler Nicholas (MZN) method. This PID configuration is used as a reference to develop Fuzzy and Anfis structure. In this study, transfer function based model of DC motor is developed with defined parameters which is then integrated with different controller configuration. Finally, the developed system is tested for number of simulation runs and comparative analysis shows that ANFIS provide superior features including easy implementation, good computational efficiency, and stable convergence characteristic and this has validated the robustness of the ANFIS scheme.

This paper presents an intelligent load frequency control approach for a power system with three thermal-thermal-hydro control areas using ANFIS technique. The merit of this controlling technique is that it is faster than the conventional controllers. Also the maximum overshoot and the settling time of ANFIS based controller are lesser when compared to the conventional controllers, thereby reducing the oscillations locally and of inter-area. This effectiveness of the proposed controller in improving the dynamic response is shown and validated in three area inter-connected system. Areas1 & 2 comprises of thermal reheat plants and area 3 comprises of hydro power plant. Comparison in performances of PID control technique, Fuzzy based controller and ANFIS control approach is carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK package. The results validates that the ANFIS based controller is faster than the conventional controller and have improved dynamic response.

This paper discusses the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) system developed for Electrical Power System (EPS) of COEP Satellite Initiative's second satellite mission. Primary scientific objective of the mission is orbit raising using solar sails with radiation monitoring data collection. This mission has higher energy requirements as compared to first mission, Swayam, this necessitated the implementation of MPPT along with deployable solar panels. The MPPT system which connects to Li-ion battery also functions as battery monitoring and protection system (BMPS). BMPS designs are also examined. The MPPT controller controls switching of a DC-DC converter based on SEPIC topology. This topology provides flexibility in solar panel and battery pack configurations as the input can be higher or lower than output voltage making the design generic along with utilisation of all operating points. An integrated system including solar array, MPPT controller, SEPIC converter and battery pack is simulated in SIMULINK of MATLAB which facilitated tuning and optimization of critical parameters. Various algorithms considered for MPPT are evaluated in brief of which-‘Perturb and Observe (P&O)’ is discussed in detail. Design and limitations of many commercially available ICs are discussed. Various design techniques for implementing MPPT on controller have also been discussed.
