Waveguide photodetectors are considered as a promising candidate for high speed photodetection where the tradeoff between the transit time bandwidth and the quantum efficiency is overcome as the incident optical signal and the photogenerated carriers move in perpendicular directions. In WG-Avalanche Photodetectors (WG-APDs), the avalanche multiplication gain enhances the photocurrent of the photodiodes. In these photodiodes, the inaccuracies in the ionizations coefficients of the photogenerated electrons and holes and in the dimensions of the multiplication layer affect the multiplication gain of the device and its functionality. In this paper, a stochastic analysis of the multiplication gain of the WG - separated absorption multiplication-APDs is presented, that is based on Monte Carlo simulations and on the frequency response of the photodetector.

neurodegenerative diseases have complex pathological mechanisms. Detecting disease-associated genes with typical differentially expressed gene selection approaches are ineffective. Recent studies have shown that wrappers Evolutionary optimization methods perform well in feature selection for high dimensional data, but they are computationally costly. This paper proposes a simple method based on a genetic algorithm engaged with the Empirical Bays T-statistics test to enhance the disease-associated gene selection process. The proposed method is applied to Affymetrix microarray data from Huntington's disease. 40 disease-associated genes are discovered as biomarkers. Moreover, the proposed approach improved the disease-associated gene prediction process. The classification accuracy for selected genes is calculated using the K nearest neighbor with leave-one-out cross-validation. The accuracy ranges from 93.1 to 100 for 3 different brain regions, suggesting the effectiveness and robustness of selected genes.

Dielectrophoretic force has been used to manipulate and control the biological microparticles. This technique has been used for various purposes such the cell trapping, cell sorting and separating the different biological particles suspended in a buffer solution. The strength of dielectrophoretic force depends on different features related to the cell dielectric features and geometry of the electrodes. Label-free and non-invasive techniques are considered promising in the analysis of the cell. The impedance spectroscopy is matching with the advantages of these techniques. In this paper, we study the influence of the modification of the geometry of the electrodes as the source of dielectrophoresis force on impedance spectroscopy techniques. The main target is to enhance the sensitivity of the system to differentiate between the cells with allow conductivity.

A consistency analysis is performed for one of the famous Tajweed rules in the Holy Quran - Madd rules. They are tested on records of one of the famous reference reciters - Sheikh El-Hosary-to find a consistent boundaries and to evaluate the performance of other new learners. A vowel detection algorithm is used to detect the duration of the detected Madd patterns. This algorithm was applied on a dataset of 105 minutes of Quranic records of Sheikh El-Hosary. The consistency result is found to be normally distributed with a mean of 0.379 second of one movement time of Madd and standard deviation of 0.058 second and minimum consistency of 84.6% for 68% of the detected Madd patterns.

This presents a hybrid photovoltaic/diesel system simulated as an alternative to the diesel generators required for water pumping systems. This hybrid system is designed to overcome the limitations of the fluctuating price and availability of diesel generators, ensure a reliable supply without interruptions, and improve the overall system efficiency. The system configuration offers an economical benefits over fully renewable hybrid systems or PV only systems. The novelty of the system design lies in minimizing its complexity in terms of design size and control while using a 10 KW photovoltaic (PV) array and a 5 KW generator. The paper tackles a detailed analysis of the energy throughout the whole system, inverter design, maximum power point tracker (MPPT), and DC brushless motor are simulated. In addition, all the losses caused by rectifier, and inverter conversions are quantified. Detailed analysis of the system performance and its economical considerations are represented.

In this paper, the modal characteristics of ring core fibers (RCFs) have been studied and a comprehensive review of recent work of ring core fibers is presented. Next, we investigate the ring core fiber parameters and their effects on the design performance in terms of effective mode index, mode group delay, mode field diameter, and differential group delay. Finally, A RCF design considerations for achieving high mode channel count and low crosstalk performances in weakly coupled MIMO transmission have been examined.

This paper proposes a safe and effective method to generate the subkeys that are used in the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm for data encryption applications. The suggested method relies upon the Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG) that is created from the improved Lorenz chaotic system. The output of PRNG is exploited as a key schedule for generating AES subkeys where the output is characterized by having an infinite periodic length. This method can be used in high-speed applications since no hardware multipliers are utilized so it gives the best hardware performance. Simulation and Synthesis of the suggested method are done by using the ISE 14.7 and analyzed by MATLAB and the NIST mathematical suite that was included, this method only made use of 4% from the Virtex 5 FPGA kit's slices and operating frequency reached a maximum of 242MHz.

The scientific literature is full of studies that provide evidence highlighting the role of microbiome in type 2 diabetes (T2D) development and progression, still, discrepancies are evident when studying the link between certain taxonomic groupings and T2D, thus, eliminating the discrepancy between such studies is crucial to build on a robust systematic approach to identify the possible linkage between such taxonomic groups and diabetes development and progression, hence developing a potential treatment. Here we aimed to use a publicly available data set of gut and nares microbiome of prediabetic individuals subjected to viral infections and controls of prediabetic healthy individuals. Analysis was done for taxa differential abundance followed by Taxon set enrichment analysis (TSEA), then, Correlations between each of the differentially abundant bacterium was performed. Our results suggest various microbial communities significantly changed with direct relation to critical diseases, such as Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity, Type 1 Diabetes and atherosclerosis. The findings are strongly assertive for each other as both nares and gut data were matching and agreeing with the literature, paving the road for potential probiotic therapeutics for T2D.

Industrial blockchain applications have recently risen to the top of the scientific and industrial communities' priority lists. This is due to their practical capabilities in resolving many issues in various industrial domains. Visibility and traceability to a large volume of trusted data benefit members of a consortium of industrial companies and associated organizations. Data scientists who query data and use statistics and Machine Learning to solve a wide range of interesting problems benefit as well. This paper introduces a blockchain application Query Engine based on upgradable Smart Contracts with a lightweight, flexible, and interoperable query framework. This query engine specifically is designed to facilitate the storage and querying of application data recorded on blockchain networks.

The unsteady flow field variations between healthy and diseased three-dimensional rigid posterior cerebral artery are numerically investigated. The Computational hemodynamic simulations have been known to provide valuable clinical information to researchers and surgeons that proved to be crucial for the assessment of medical risks, pre-surgical conditioning and treatment planning. The wall shear stress (WSS) and wall pressure are the most important hemodynamic variables, and both are used to give accurate description about the health status of the artery. The results showed that at the bifurcation, the WSS value and its gradient are very high; a combination that stimulates aneurysm initiation which is consistent with the literature.
