Buildings as absorber and heat reflectors can increase air temperature and as shaper formers can lower air temperature. However, both of these roles affect the extent of urban thermal environment, need to be studied through the form of canyon geometry creation of thermal comfort conditions outside space. The focus of this study is to examine how much the relationship between the vegetation and canyon geometry of urban thermal comfort in the humid tropics especially in Jakarta. This research used computer simulation method with hypothetic building object, to test how big influence of vegetation regulation on various canyon geometry to outdoor thermal comfort. Elements of canyon geometry that apply is aspect ratio and orientation. Because these two elements are the most influential elements in thermal comfort. The vegetation applied for this research is grass, greenroof extensive, intensive greenroof, greenwall and trees. Application of the vegetation in increasing thermal comfort is more effective than changing canyon geometry. However, the application of the vegetation will be more effective when applied in accordance with the canyon geometry. Keywords: canyon geometry, vegetation, outdoor termal comfort

This paper discusses the development and changes in space that occur in the fishermen’s area of Panambungan fisheries in Mariso sub-district, along with the changes in space that occur as a result of reclamation activities and changes in spatial patterns around the fishing settlement area. Changes in the settlement’s spatial pattern show a trend of discrepancies between urban developments and the physical conditions of fishing settlement that can cause a decline in regional values. The study aims to get an overview of the current condition of the fishing settlement of Mariso and their changes based on the 2015-2034 spatial plan of Makassar city, and the consolidated directives that can be done. The results of this study are expected to be an input or a recommendation for Mariso fishing settlement in particular and the fishing settlement in Indonesia in general. The analysis process uses quantitative syntactic analysis with the help of Depthmap X computer software with descriptive quantitative method that is focused on consolidating the Mariso connection fisherman settlement. The results of the study show that the development of the city shows that the Mariso fisherman settlement spatial configuration based on the 2015-2034 Makassar City spatial plan has a better value of space analysis (integration, connectivity, mean of depth, choice and intelligibility), but there is a mismatch of physical spatial functions and patterns with existing fishing settlement. This is indicated by the occurrence of economic activity in the area (interaction), in which there is a change in space that does not support fisherman activities. The number of educational facilities around campus is directly proportional to the number of students, especially those from out of town. The emergence of student facilities accommodated by the kampong (villages) around the university can be observed in Kampung Karangasem, Depok, Sleman. This phenomenon led to the concept of Home-Based Enterprises (HBE), which refers to residences transformed into business places. One of the ways to transform a house into HBE is by maximizing the space or land area horizontally without increasing the number of floors. In regard to that, this research aimed to study the horizontal spatial transformation in HBE in Kampung Karangasem. This study used the qualitative deductive approach with case study method. The findings reveal that the transformation of horizontal space involves the extending of space, sharing of space, shifting of space, and squishing of space. One of the current issues of temperature warning that is greatly discussed is Urban Heat Island (UHI). It is a phenomenon that can affect people’s level of comfort in doing outdoor activities with respect to the rising air temperature. There are many factors that affect the occurrence of UHI. One of them is the increasing use of hard landscape materials. This research was conducted to find out how big the influence of the use of hard material of the landscape on the decrease of outdoor environment temperature. The sample selection was taken on the research site, namely Malioboro Street, Yogyakarta, through the simulation of temperature evaluation using the Envi-Met software. The landscape materials studied include brick road (red stone) / red brick, sandy soil, asphalt road, dark concrete pavement, concrete pavement gray, and dark granite pavement. Then, each object of the study was tested and compared to determine the most optimal landscape component in the thermal environment degradation. From the results of the simulation test conducted through Envi-Met software, the change of thermal condition in each material can be identified. The difference in the changes that occurred between the materials tested was not quite significant. The hard landscape material that absorbs heat the least, and thus causing the largest thermal temperatures is the brick material, while the environment with the lowest thermal conditions use sandy soil material. Since the old town of Semarang preened to be proposed to UNESCO as a heritage city, many tourists have been visiting the area during the day and night, especially the Letjen Suprapto street, which is the main corridor of the old town of Semarang. Business people also help enliven the activity by reviving old buildings that were not functioning. Facade is an important element in architecture and becomes a major concern in strengthening the character of colonial architecture in the old town of Semarang. Architecture that is characterized by door openings and windows with a height and width with thick walls, gives the impression of space that is more pronounced in the composition of architectural elements in the facade of the building. At night, the role of artificial lighting attached to the outer walls of the building, lighting from inside the building, and lighting the environment will lead to different perceptions of the facade of the building. Parts of the dark facade elements can be a bright part and vice versa, as part of the visual relationship between the front and inside of the building which shows the existence of a figure-ground relation in the scope of the facade of the building. In order to examine the character of nighttime architecture in this corridor, reviews are done on several buildings that have the composition of facade elements and use artificial lighting as a building factor for nighttime architecture. The development of national transportation network includes land, sea and air transportation. This research aims to analyze the influence of new airport development in Kulonprogo named New Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA) towards infrastructure development in Kulonprogo. The influence of NYIA on Kulonprogo infrastructure is massive, namely, the extension of national road to Kulonprogo Regency located in Milir Hamlet, Kedungsari Village, Pengasih Subdistrict, and bridge construction in Sentolo Subdistrict that connects between Bantul, Sleman and Kulonprogo districts. In addition to the construction of roads and bridges, the construction of infrastructure connects to Borobudur temple in Magelang regency under the term of Menoreh Surgery involving the land acquisition of Kulonprogo residents, investors and housing developers invest land in Kulonprogo to build hotel and housing near the new airport plan. The obstacles in the relocation of affected residents of this airport are the construction of public facilities and social facilities such as the availability of clean water, electricity network and household sanitation at the beginning of development that is important to support the basic needs. Public facilities and social facilities development are conducted by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. The affected residents at Glagah Village, Palihan Temon Kulonprogo District refused to be relocated in case social facilities and public facilities are not available. The local government approach personally to the affected villagers by accelerating the relocation process and working with various stakeholders.

This research aims to identify the correlation between the role of seating layout arrangements and student’s drawings in the kindergarten’s classroom. This kindergarten is located at TK Model, Sleman Regency, D.I. Yogyakarta. This research relates to early childhood learning, so that they can find directions that should be applied in kindergarten’s classroom. This research is also identifies the factors that influence the correlation between the role of seating layout arrangements and student’s drawings, and identify the best area of seating layout arrangement that can optimizing the results of the student’s drawings. This research is using quantitative and qualitative methods. The research uses data and information from the documentation of the activities and student’s drawings as the object of research through questionnaire survey. The data collected shows that there are differences of each type of seating layout arrangements to student’s drawings. The level of the seating layout arrangements and to student’s drawings in this research is a weak correlation. This is because of various factors such as physical and non-physical factors, so that it is refer to design directives that should be applied to optimizing the drawing activities in the classroom. The findings indicate that the use of seating layout arrangement on the floor and carpet by dividing the use area during ongoing activities can be applied. It also shows that physical and non-physical aspects cannot be separated, so it needs a balance between the direction of physical and non-physical aspects based on the sequence of early childhood learning activities carried out by student in the kindergarten classroom. As one of the big cities in Indonesia, Bandung has now made many improvements to the city park facilities and infrastructure. The quality improvement can be seen not only in the physical form of various city spaces but also though the free internet access available for park users. This has an impact on the behavior of park users, which slowly affects the dynamics of park activities as well, especially the emergence of virtual space. The presence of virtual space in the city park provides a variety of positive and negative responses in the way people socialize. This paper aims to examine the phenomenon and impacts, the meaning shift, and the redefinition the social functions of urban parks due to the availability of free internet facilities that give rise to virtual spaces in the parks of Bandung. The data were taken from the Superhero Park, Elderly Park, Fitness Park, and Dago Park using structured interviews and observations of visitor activities as the data collection techniques. It is found that the presence of wifi facilities is viewed positively in terms of information access, but is viewed negatively in regard to the essential functions of urban parks which are originally created as a social space. Therefore, the study concludes that there has been a degradation of functions in the urban park facilities, because the nature of virtual space itself tends to bring humans to get carried away in it and interrupt their activities from the space of reality. City parks have also experienced a shift in meaning, thus creating a build-up of space that creates virtual space into the real world in the form of a park. Semiotic approach in architecture aims to promote understanding and discussion on architectural works among people. In this research, the architectural works refer to signs in the form of architectural elements found in the compound of Istana Alwatzikhoebillah of The Sultanate of Sambas. The Sultanate of Sambas is an Islamic kingdom acknowledged since the 16th century. The present building of Istana Alwatzikhoebillah is the result of a renovation carried out in 1931, thus has been standing for 89 years. The objective of this research is to figure out the relationship between the signs situated in the architectural spaces around the compound of Istana Alwatzikhoebillah by employing Pierce’s semiotic theory. This qualitative research uses rationalist paradigm with interview and observation as the data collection techniques. The collected data are analyzed using the diagram of Pierce’s triadic model of sign, which consists of object, interpretant, and representamen. Through the finding, this research suggests the meaning represented by each element of the architectural spaces, which are Kalling Jembatan, Gerbang Segilapan, Alon-Alon Istana, Tiang Kapal, and Gerbang Dalam Istan. Those five signs form a relational meaning which serves as a layered security architecture for Jalur Sulthan. Keywords : Semiotics, Sign, Architectural Elements, Istana Alwatzikhoebillah, Sambas.
