Awareness in logic and cognitive neuroscience 逻辑和认知神经科学中的意识

Cognitive neuroscience has provided important insights into the notions like implicit versus explicit information processing in perception, object identification, memory, and general information retrieval. Even more topically, neuroscience has brought the notion of awareness in the forefront. of human knowledge. Yet the logical reflections of awareness and the implicit/explicit distinction have remained by and large uncharted. To improve on this situation, we introduce cognitively motivated logical operators related to actual experimental aspects of awareness into the modal language. Their semantics is given by grounding logical senses of awareness on a dynamic structure of possible worlds. We show that many neuroscientific findings on neural dysfunctions can be made to contribute to the logical level of investigation. In particular, the logics of awareness are enriched by experimental findings on brain and cognitive disorders such as blindsight, unilateral neglect, prosopagnosia, and implicit memory.

Modeling comprehension processes in software development 软件开发中的建模理解过程

As programs become more complex and larger, the sheer volume of information to be comprehended by developers becomes daunting. Software development is fraught with complexity that is difficult to identify a priori. Complexity is relative to the task, the developer's experience and the resources available. In this research, we identify comprehension processes applied in software development, and the cognitive loads associated with these processes. We present an abstraction of the cognitive environment of the software developer, and introduce techniques to minimize the cognitive effort in the short-term and the long-term.

Design of a framework for electronic commerce brokers 电子商务代理框架的设计

The abundance of specialized electronic brokers (e-brokers) combined with the complexity of their design phase reinforce the need for a reusable design for e-brokers. This paper presents an e-broker framework, a reusable object-oriented design that captures several e-brokers' behaviour. The framework is expressed in F-UML, a design language that visually distinguishes between the parts common in all e-broker applications and the parts adaptable when deriving a specific e-broker from the framework. The paper briefly presents F-UML. It then focuses on the design process. Finally, it highlights the difficulties, advantages and limits of the proposed design method.

On the informatics laws of software 论软件的信息学规律

A fundamental finding in computer science is that software, as an artifact of human creativity, is not constrained by the laws and principles discovered in the physical world. Thus, a natural question we have to ask is: What are the constraints that software obeys? This paper attempts to demonstrate that software obeys the laws of informatics, because software is a mathematical entity, a coded solution, and a special type of information at a certain abstract level. Based on the above argument, another fundamental question is introduced that asks: What are the laws and principles of informatics that constrain software in software engineering? This paper explores a set of informatics, cognitive, psychological, and linguistic properties and laws, which are developed to answer the above profound question.

This paper discusses a concept of flexible distributed systems and an agent-based architecture for them. An agent-based framework for developing such a flexible distributed system, named the ADIPS framework, is then proposed. This consists of distributed agent work places, agent repositories and support tools. Finally, agent-based flexible applications developed using the ADIPS framework are demonstrated.

A methodology, for assessing a user's skill grade is a key technology for developing adaptive user interfaces. The methodology presented assesses a user's skill grade by analyzing the tendencies of the user's operations. In order to analyze these tendencies, we categorized user's operations into three categories and extracted data from the logs on which the user's operation behavior was recorded. We discuss the methodology for assessing a user's skill grade and the system architecture, and then we describe the results of a preliminary experiment and a new experiment with the prototype based on the new architecture.

An interaction-based approach for structuring coordination activities 构建协调活动的基于交互的方法

In this contribution we present a theoretical approach which has been utilized to inform the coordination of the development of complex systems. Coordination is regarded as a form of human activity in which individual and social aspects as well as technical ones need to be considered. We analyze human activity from an interaction point of view in which various types of signs mediate the relation between individual cognition and phenomena in the environment. The sign-mediated interaction is apprehended as having a connectional, conceptual and linguistic facet. From a cognitive and semiotic analysis of these facets, we conjecture that the following constituents are fundamental for human activity: intersubjectivity experiential learning, contextuality, spatiality, temporality, stabilizing core and tool usage. These constituents are employed in structuring human activity from a coordination point of view as activity domains. A framework for articulating activity domains is described. This framework, which includes information system support, is currently used to coordinate the software integration of the third generation mobile systems at the Ericsson company. We report on some result from this usage. The results indicate that the theoretical approach is relevant for practical purposes.

Model and heuristic technique for efficient verification of component-based software systems 基于组件的软件系统有效验证的模型和启发式技术

With the rapid growth of networking and high-computing power, the demand of larger and more complex software systems has increased dramatically. To deal with the complexity in designing large-scale complex software systems, the concept of component-based software design has gained popularity recently. However, in pursuing a component-based approach there are obstacles to be overcome. One of them is the state-explosion problem in the formal verification of large-scale component-based systems. In this paper, we introduce a modeling mechanism and a set of heuristic rules to facilitate the verification of component-based software systems. Our heuristic techniques are much weaker than current theories useful for the compositional verification. More significantly, our technique can eliminate the interleaved behaviors caused by asynchronously sending actions. Therefore, our technique provides a much more powerful means for the compositional verification of asynchronous processes. Our technique can efficiently analyze several state-based properties: deadlock, reachable, and livelock state. The experimental results show a significant improvement in the analysis of large-scale component-based systems.

Computational intelligence for medical knowledge acquisition with application to glaucoma 计算智能在青光眼医学知识获取中的应用

This paper presents an approach that integrates computational intelligence/soft computing paradigms with clinical investigation methods and knowledge. Computational intelligence methods (including fuzzy logic, neural networks and genetic algorithms) deal in a suitable way with imprecision, uncertainty and partial truth. These aspects can be found quite often in practical medical activities and in medical knowledge. The proposed approach uses a knowledge discovery process in order to develop an intelligent system for diagnosis and prediction of glaucoma. The knowledge acquired is embedded in a fuzzy logic inference system. The resulting neuro-fuzzy glaucoma diagnosis and prediction system is expected to lower the effort, difficulties and risk cost related to this disease (the leading cause of blindness in North America).

In this paper we initially describe the nature and problems of business and define the office environment as one aspect of the business environment. We then propose a framework based on augmented soft systems methodology that captures both the soft and hard aspects of an office environment. We briefly outline a knowledge-based software tool that supports this framework.
