Intelligent Infrastructure for Accessing Sound and Related Multimedia Objects 用于访问声音和相关多媒体对象的智能基础设施

In recent years, digital sound material becomes more and more available. However, there is still lack of qualitative solutions for access to digital sound archives. Not only that there is no consistency in formats of archived materials with related media often in separate collections, but related metadata are given in non-standard specialist format, incomplete or even erroneous. Hence, the full value of the archived material is hidden from the end user. EASAIER addresses these issues with the development of an innovative remote access system which extends beyond standard content management and retrieval systems. The EASAIER system focuses on sound archives, libraries, museums, broadcast archives, and music schools. However, the tools may be used by anyone interested in accessing archived material; amateur or professional, regardless of the material involved. Furthermore, it enriches the access experience enabling the user to experiment with the materials in exciting new ways. The system features; enhanced cross media retrieval functionality, multi-media synchronization, audio and video processing, analysis and visualization tools, all combined within in a single user configurable interface.

FRM: Towards a Semantic Platform for Fair Content Distribution 面向公平内容分发的语义平台

Fair use policy allows legal owners to share products they bought with their acquaintance; it is based on the assumptions that the owners pass an original product and they cannot use it at the same time. In the digital world, we can hardly apply those assumptions since they are based on a physical availability. Furthermore, digital content providers want to have control over the distribution of their products; thus, Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems do not assist and even forbid sharing. We present Fair Rights Management (FRM) that is our work towards fair use in the digital world. We propose taking advantage of social networks and terms negotiations. We illustrate our approach by extending existing solutions with semantic descriptions. We describe how to apply and implement the proposed improvements in the standard DRM model. Finally, we evaluate our proposition with the most common fair use scenarios.

Ontology-Based Matchmaking Approach for Context-Aware Recommendations 基于本体的上下文感知推荐匹配方法

In this short paper, we present a series of ontologies allowing modeling of user, multimedia content and context, and a rule-based matchmaking approach for recommending systems. Category-based preferences as well as the expression of any interest concerning a concept formalized in an ontology are allowed. Furthermore, recommendations can be provided adequately in different situations as the user ontology allows expressing context-dependent interests. The approach has been successfully applied in a prototype of video recommender for mobile device.

The Implementation of Chronotonic Similarity within an Applet Applet中时序相似性的实现

The term chronotonic similarity/distance was first introduced by Hofmann-Engl in the late 1990s in order to describe the phenomenon of what might be called rhythmic similarity, and although it has been used within a number of studies and in particular in order to classify flamenco meters, it appears that no attempt has been undertaken so far to produce an application which would allow potential users to compute the chronotonic similarity via a user friendly interface. This paper introduces the reader to the concept of chronotonic similarity and discusses the method which was used to implement this similarity measure within an applet. The paper also touches on issues of ongoing development and the integration of the software into other applications such as automated composers, automated analysis and search engines.

Experiencing Digital Rights Management in Mobile Environments 体验移动环境中的数字版权管理

Content consumption in mobile devices is no longer limited to ringtones, games or images. The increasing capabilities of new mobile devices include now music and video clips. The content sent to the mobile device and even content created from devices has an increasing value. The application of security mechanisms and the introduction of Digital Rights Management (DRM) can give companies and final users a new way of interchanging content. Nevertheless, it is not easy to provide applications that work on different mobile devices. The specific features of these devices (manufacturers, operating systems, programming environments, capabilities, etc.) make difficult to implement innovative applications for them, especially those related to DRM, which usually involve several security aspects. Different approaches have been taken to overcome these problems, which are presented here.

Evaluating Recommender Systems 评估推荐系统

Recommender systems are considered as an answer to the information overload in a Web environment. Such systems recommend items (movies, music, books, news, web pages, etc.) that the user should be interested in. Collaborative filtering recommender systems have a huge success in commercial applications. The sales in these applications follow a power law distribution. However, with the increase of the number of recommendation techniques and algorithms in the literature, there is no indication that the datasets used for the evaluation follow a real world distribution. This paper introduces the long tail theory and its impact on recommender systems. It also provides a comprehensive review of the different datasets used to evaluate collaborative filtering recommender systems techniques and algorithms (EachMovie, MovieLens, Jester, BookCrossing, and Netflix). Finally, it investigates which of these datasets present a distribution that follows this power law distribution and which distribution would be the most relevant.

Melodic Segmentation on Different Musical Genres 不同音乐类型的旋律分割

To create a sufficient repository of test data for our model-based implementations of music information retrieval functions working on symbolic documents, we have used three different approaches to melodic segmentation on monophonic pieces with a broad range of genres from baroque/classical music to pop/rock. All three methods are driven by musical knowledge (in contrast to methods such as n-gram segmentation). Two of the algorithms we have applied are taken from former work of other researchers, the third algorithm has been developed in our department and will be introduced briefly. Our repository of test documents (midi format) consisted of 52 files making it more representative (2.5 to 5 times the number of documents)than those that have been referenced in previous publications. This paper describes our experiences with the applied algorithms, the results that have been achieved, and the conclusions we have been able to draw for improving music segmentation methods.

WIMS 2.0: converging IMS and Web 2.0. Convergent Content Distribution and Publication WIMS 2.0:融合IMS和Web 2.0。融合内容分发和出版

This paper summarizes the intermediate results of the WIMS 2.0 initiative, which has analyzed the keys for the convergence between the Web 2.0 and the Telecom worlds. After having proposed a two-sided strategy, that allows offering Telco capabilities to the Web 2.0 as well as enriching the operatorpsilas services with Web 2.0 contents and events, an architectural model that catalyzes this convergence has been defined: the WIMS 2.0 Services Platform. Following this approach and focusing on the exposure of Telco capabilities towards Web 2.0, the use of open Web APIs is one of the key aspects of the proposed solution. The real feasibility of these ideas has been verified through a proof of concept. This proof of concept, which is focused on the publication and distribution of Web 2.0 content, clearly reflects the power of a typical Web 2.0 concept that can also be applied to the telecom environment: service mashups.

Event Reporting Scenarios and Implementations in Distributed Multimedia Systems 分布式多媒体系统中的事件报告场景与实现

Distributed multimedia systems require the possibility of tracking any operation occurred in the system, such as those performed by content creators, distributors and final users. These operations may involve not only the consumption of content at the end user side, but also some system operations, such as the issuance of licenses that grant permissions over the content. The collection and storage of reporting messages generated by the different actors of the multimedia value chain, or even by the system itself, can be used for tracking, statistics and even accounting purposes. MPEG-21 has defined a standard way to express the information that needs to be conveyed in these circumstances. In this paper we will analyse the suitability of MPEG-21 event reporting, while reasoning the improvements we have proposed in order to deal with integrity, privacy, non-repudiation and the distributed generation of the reported information. We will also describe different approaches for its implementation, focusing on a new feature such as the inheritance of event report requests in a content creation and distribution environment.

Multipath Local Error Management Technique Over Ad Hoc Networks 基于Ad Hoc网络的多路径本地错误管理技术

Nowadays wireless networks are as an important and wide usage part of communication world. Flexible nature of ad hoc networks and ability of them for using in different situations makes them a suitable option for using in territories suffering lack of established structure based networks. Transmitting video over ad hoc networks due to itpsilas dynamic nature and properties of video packets makes a lot of challenges. The key idea of proposed schema is based on sending video packets over two disjoint paths beside using buffering technique in special nodes of network. In each of every path there is only one node selected as proxy node. The main task of these nodes is summarized as local error management while transferring packets among nodes to overcome high loss rate of video packets so received video at target will have better quality.
