In order to ensure that the agricultural AGV spend least time in the multi-point monitoring process, this paper analyzes the characteristics of the ridge farmland and proposes a path planning algorithm in the ridge farmland based on ant colony algorithm. The actual distance between each monitoring point is discussed in detail. The problem of path planning of multi-point measurement in ridge farmland is transformed into TSP problem. By establishing a suitable model and using Matlab to simulate the path planning algorithm, the results show that the algorithm is feasible.

High-yielding and quality grain rice varieties with submergence tolerance has now become foremost objective of rice breeding research world-wide after loss of thousands of acres due to frequent floods for last five years. New flood tolerant, fertilizer-responsive, high yielding varieties can increase income of poor farmers in the face of considerable rise in floods and world population. To cope with this situation, a new improved high yielding, extra-long grain variety also suitable for flood-prone areas of Pakistan was developed. The variety named as Chenab Basmati was bred by hybridizing line 98PP4 with line 4439 during 1998-99. The pedigree method of selection continued up to seventh filial generation at Rice Research Institute Kala Shah Kaku, Pakistan. The selection was accompanied with marker assisted selection in MAS lab; whereas phenotypic field screening in submergence tank constructed at RRI KSK. It was tested in fine grain yield trials and regional adaptability trials to compare this improved candidate variety with Super Basmati and Basmati 515 as checks. The overall average yield of Chenab Basmati in all the in-station and out-station yield trials was 4.52 t/ha in comparison with 3.65 t/ha of Super Basmati and 3.90 t/ha of Basmati 515. It was observed that the advanced line showed a yield advantage of 24% and 16% over check varieties i.e., Super Basmati and Basmati 515, respectively. Among grain quality attributes, its head rice recovery (58%) and grain length (7.61mm) were found better than checks. Chenab Basmati showed tolerance index of more than 0.9 during both the years indicating its potential to be used as flood tolerant variety.

Limited understandings of the impacts of climate change and lack of local research have proven to be major challenges for the Nepalese agricultural sector. A study was carried out in Latikoili VDC of Surkhet district aiming to identify impacts of climate change, examine people’s perception, and assess existing adaptation measures practiced on agriculture. Qualitative and quantitative analysis was done to the data collected from primary and secondary sources. The climatic data revealed; the trend of temperature has increased and rainfall has substantially decreased over past 29 years. The results showed most of the respondents perceived change in climate and farming system such as delay of monsoon, erratic rainfall pattern, increased temperature resulting drought associated with decrease in water sources, shifting cultivation, planting and flowering time. The adaptation measures such as adapting improved seed varieties with change in planting time, IPM practices, and plastic pond to store waste water have been practiced to combat climate change. Sharing information and raising awareness among people can be done to enhance livelihood.

Pedolological characterization was done in Dodoma Capital City District, Tanzania. Three soil profiles developed from in-situ weathering of granic rocks and designated as HIS-P1, HISP2 and HIS-P3 were described. Fifteen samples were taken from genetic horizons and analyzed for physical and chemical characteristics. The soils were generally very deep, with varying textures. Whereas profile HIS-P2 was dominantly loamy, profiles HIS-P1 and HIS-P3 were both clayey but the latter had heavy clay type. In profile HIS-P1, clay eluviation-illuviation was a dominant pedogenic process manifested by presence of clay cutans in the subsoil. Profile HIS-P2 displayed redoximorphic features due to fluctuating water table. Shrinking and swelling, and argilli-pedoturbation were typical pedogenic processes in profile HIS-P3. Profile HIS-P1 had more developed structure (subangular blocky) followed by HIS-P3 and lastly profile HIS-P2 which was structureless massive breaking into weak subangular blocks. Whereas topsoil bulk density values of the soils were within acceptable range, subsoil BD values are likely to cause problems of root penetration particularly for deep rooted crops. Profiles HIS-P1 and HIS-P3 may present limitations to crop growth due to high pH values (> 7.5) in the subsoil which may limit availability of plant nutrients e.g. phosphorus. Organic carbon and nitrogen were generally low and very low in all profiles with most values being < 1.25% and < 0.10%, respectively. Availabe P values were low to very low (< 7 mg/kg) throughout the three profiles. Topsoil base saturation values were high (> 50%) in profiles HIS-P1 and HIS-P2 but very high throughout proflie HIS-P3 (83 118%). Zn and Fe levels were rated as inadequate for crop production. According to USDA Soil Taxonomy, the soils were classified as Typic Rhodustults (HISP1), Fluventic Dystrustepts (HIS-P2) and Chromic Calcitorrerts (HIS-P3) corresponding to Haplic Cutanic Acrisols, Haplic Cambisols and Calcic Mazic Vertisols in the WRB for Soil Resources. The three soils had different physico-chemical properties, hence the need to characterize soils before fertilizer recommendations is met.

Careful monitoring of the quality and quantity of water resources plays a significant role in modern environmental management. Thus, to achieve this aim, the quantitative and qualitative parameters of water resources should be measured and controlled with a desirable accuracy. However, it is not always possible to measure these parameters with easy, inexpensive, precise, and quick experimental methods. Therefore, today to solve this type of problems, new methods including smart methods are used which have a great potential in many computational areas. Considering the variety of the studies and absence of a comprehensive review paper, this research should be conducted. The aim of this paper is to comprehensively review application of the smart methods of artificial neural network and support vector machine in the area of water resources and to develop a comprehensive study source for the researchers interested in this field. The results of these studies all show that these advanced smart methods are more efficient, accurate, economical, and faster than other computational methods to predict quantitative and qualitative parameters of water resources.
