Assessing the potential of prediction in energy management for ancillaries in heavy-duty trucks 评估预测在重型卡车辅助设备能源管理中的潜力

The degree of importance of prediction in the control of ancillary systems for conventional heavy-duty trucks is investigated, with focus on fuel economy. An optimal control law that utilizes prediction is compared with a suboptimal causal control law. The incentive for this investigation is that the suboptimal control law is less complex to develop and implement for the considered system. The results are not general since only a limited amount of ancillary systems have been modeled, only two different drive cycles have been evaluated and simplified mathematical component models for a specific test truck have been used in the optimization problem. Nevertheless, preliminary results from this investigation indicate that simple suboptimal control laws can yield close to the same improvements in fuel efficiency as a predictive controller, when compared to a baseline control law. Tuning complexity is expected to rise when more ancillaries are included in the energy management problem. This can be a valid argument to incorporate prediction in future work.

Experimental evaluation of a fault-tolerant plug-and-play controller 一种容错即插即用控制器的实验评估

Networked control systems use the network connection to exchange data and signals. In plug-and-play control the communication of control algorithms and system models over a shared network is concerned with the intention to adjust control laws automatically after the occurrence of changes in the plant structure or in the control objectives. An application scenario is the break down of a sensor or an actuator as studied in fault-tolerant control. This paper investigates such a situation in the sense of plug-and-play control. The diagnostic task and reconfiguration task are separated and assigned to predestined computational units: an onboard unit allocated at the plant with access to the plant signal and a remote off-board unit concerning the expensive computation. The onboard diagnostic unit detects and identifies the failure at runtime and transmits the model of the faulty plant to the offboard reconfiguration unit over a shared network. Using the reconfiguration strategy of the virtual sensor and virtual actuator the reconfigured controller is automatically designed and transmitted to the control station to replace the original control algorithm. In the whole sequence no human interaction is necessary. The main contributions of this paper are the combination of a diagnosis method and a reconfiguration method to perform a completely automated sequence, the implementation of this concept and the evaluation by experiments on a thermal fluid process.

Water-level reference planning for automated irrigation channels via robust MPC 基于鲁棒MPC的自动化灌溉渠道水位参考规划

In a water-level reference planning problem for automated irrigation channels, the object is to steer the system along trajectories that satisfy hard constraints on the regulated water levels and the flow commands produced by the underlying feedback controllers. The approach proposed here involves nominal trajectories that are devised off-line accounting for a forecast (i.e. schedule) of the demand (i.e. load input). The load actually drawn during operation is inevitably a perturbed version of this schedule. To achieve a level of robustness, insomuch as the deviation from nominal trajectories respects the constraints in the presence of such uncertainty, a Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme is developed to adjust the nominal reference plan on-line. This receding horizon scheme involves time-varying constraints on the error relative to the nominal trajectories and a novel on-line approach to constraint tightening, which yields a robust feasibility property. Simulation results for a stretch of an automated irrigation channel are discussed.

Preview optimal control of vehicle semi-active suspension based on partitioning of chassis acceleration and tire load spectra 基于底盘加速度和轮胎载荷谱划分的车辆半主动悬架预优控制

In order to improve the performance of vehicle semi-active suspension, a preview optimal controller is introduced. This controller consists of a model based feed-forward controller and an optimal feedback controller. To reduce the online computational cost, several control laws for different frequency ranges are extracted from the data of the optimal controller according to the detected frequency of the measured variables. The road profile ahead is scanned using LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) sensors. By using the trigonometric relations of the sensor with respect to the vehicle motion, the road profile is calculated. Simulation and experimental results have shown an improved performance regarding ride comfort and road handling compared to other controllers without preview.

Stochastic methods for the control of crane systems in marine applications 船舶起重机系统控制的随机方法

External excitations of oscillations which are caused by wind and waves are the main sources for disturbances in the task of load positioning by means of ship-mounted cranes in marine applications. These disturbances can be described with good accuracy by stochastic models. Although methods for the stability analysis of dynamic systems, which are subject to stochastic disturbances, are readily available, they are not widely used in practical applications. Instead, a control design is often performed for a nominal system model, while its robustness is commonly evaluated separately by numerous simulations (e.g. Monte-Carlo techniques) aiming at a quantification of the influence of disturbances. For this reason, methods are presented in this paper which are both applicable to the stability analysis of control and observer structures for ship cranes and to the enhancement of robustness properties by directly accounting for the stochastic nature of disturbances during control design. Suitable simulation results are presented which highlight the applicability of the presented methods for the trajectory control task of ship-mounted boom cranes.

Parameter identification of Hammerstein systems with Bouc-Wen hysteresis input nonlinearity* 具有Bouc-Wen迟滞输入非线性的Hammerstein系统参数辨识

The problem of Hammerstein system identification is addressed in presence of a differential hysteresis nonlinearity. The identification process is based on sampled output measurements and an upper bound on the allowed sampling period is provided. One key idea in the identification method design is that the hysteresis element assumes a linear parameterization in presence of a specific class of periodic excitations. Then, a linearly parameterized representation, involving a set of lumped parameters, can be associated to the whole Hammerstein system. The consistent estimation of these lumped parameters is shown to be possible using a hybrid adaptive observer. Finally, the recovery of the true system parameters is achieved using several tools including matrix SVD and nonlinear least-squares estimators.

This tutorial describes methodologies to model and understand the collective behavior or different types of urban systems. It highlights under what physical properties the aggregated laws will provide reasonable description of congestion for single- and multi-modal systems. Ultimately, the goal is to develop optimization tools and investigate what type of real-time active traffic management schemes (congestion pricing, vehicle restriction, large scale traffic signal control) can improve mobility measures in a city for cities of different structures. A hierarchical feedback control network of multiple levels is analyzed. The validation of the modeling methodologies and the traffic management schemes are conducted in various and complex city structures scenarios using data from field experiments and micro-simulations.

Frequency estimation of periodic signals 周期信号的频率估计

This paper addresses the problem of estimating on-line the unknown period of a periodic signal: this is a crucial problem in the design of learning and synchronizing controls, in fault detection and for the attenuation of periodic disturbances. Given a measurable continuous, bounded periodic signal, with non-zero first harmonic in its Fourier series expansion, a dynamic algorithm is proposed which provides an on-line globally exponentially convergent estimate of the unknown period. The period estimate exponentially converges from any initial condition to a neighborhood of the true period whose size is explicitly characterized in terms of the higher order harmonics contained in the signal. It is shown that the converging period estimate can be used to initialize a locally exponentially convergent estimator for the unknown period. Existing results on local frequency estimation of periodic signals are extended in two ways: any initial frequency estimate is allowed without imposing any restrictions on the algorithm design parameters; the exact value of the period is exponentially obtained, provided that the initial conditions for the period estimate are sufficiently close to the true value. When the periodic signal is a biased sinusoid, the unknown frequency is exactly estimated, along with its bias, amplitude and phase from any initial condition, thus recovering a well-known result.

Rule-based price control for bike sharing systems 基于规则的共享单车价格控制

The recent increase in popularity of shared mobility systems, in which users take a bicycle or car from a geographically-dispersed public pool in order to complete part of a journey, is due in part to improved technologies for tracking and billing customer journeys. In many schemes, a customer can start and end a journey at different docking stations and is billed according to a set fee structure. However, a given system generally becomes imbalanced due to asymmetry of demand for such “one-way” services across the system and throughout the day, and the resulting cost of employing staff to redistribute the system's vehicles is significant. This paper describes how dynamic customer prices, varying geographically as a function of the current and expected future state of the system, could be used as control signals to improve service rates. Such signals could be communicated to customers using existing ICT infrastructure. We show, using an agent-based model parameterized with historical data from London's Barclays Cycle Hire scheme, that simple proportional price control rules can improve service rates without the need to resort to conventional bike redistribution staff. In addition we analyze the performance obtained and discuss system design issues.

Online adaptation of performance maps for centrifugal gas compressors 离心式气体压缩机性能图的在线适配

This paper investigates the adaptation of different performance maps of centrifugal compressors driven by dual-shaft gas turbines during operation. First the estimation of compressor, gas turbine and combined efficiency are considered. Obtaining performance maps is mainly based on fitting an empirical model to the history of past data together with the understanding of how much new information is contained in newly collected data samples. This amounts to solving a least-squares problem which is formulated as a quadratic program using various constraints. Comparing the actual efficiency to the predicted efficiency by evaluating the previously fitted model, the algorithm decides whether the actual model is accurate enough or a model update is needed. The necessity of having an online model update comes from the fact that the efficiency maps can change due to several factors such as fouling. The algorithm is tested using industrial data from a gas compression station with five gas turbine-driven compressors. The results show the need of online adaptation and that it is possible to accurately predict the different efficiencies using the presented method without excessive model updates. The access to online updated performance maps allows to understand how well the system is performing and gives the opportunity to monitor the efficiency of a specific unit. It is possible to use the adapted performance maps for load sharing optimization with time-varying optimization models.
