This summary describes the design and construction of a modular hip prostheses, it has polycentric mechanism with three links that mimic the trajectory of the human hip's geometric center. In presence of one of the lower limbs, the system provides an additional running at all stages at speeds of 6 km/h in an instrument with a weight of 560 gr. The prosthetic system is uniaxial, presenting a two-dimensional displacement in one plane that is, doesn't have patellar movement on orthogonal planes to the motion axis, being unnecessary for this.

Participatory approach is an intervention strategy that has been successfully used for public health implementation. This study applies this approach to help manage working related health problems in the workplace. The principle of this approach is to empower workers to participate identifying risk and injuries caused by physical exposure at work as well as proposing proper control measures. As the decision makers, workers are more apt to accept the intervention program and this may help sustain the change.

The aim of this work was the ultrasonic characterization of the cell culture medium used for Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells. To design and build a special container for the speed-of-sound (SOS) temperature dependence measurement of the cell culture media was necessary. Pulse-echo technique and a step reflector were used to obtain the temperature dependence of SOS results. Water and cell culture media SOS are compared; both liquids behavior show an upward tendency in the temperature range studied. Culture media SOS results were fitted by using both a first and a second order curve; second order curve had better correlation coefficient than the other one. Speed-of-sound varies from 1510 m/s at 25°C to 1540 m/s at 50°C.

Project Management, as it has been applied traditionally, has no longer achieved full success and has been offered opportunities to create new procedures and technical enhancements. Recently, a study presented a procedure intended to innovate in managing biomedical engineering projects. The present paper shows the problem, the needs, the specialties of Biomedical Engineering and the procedures to improve management, discussing some specific aspects of this subject. Many of no success projects are caused by mismanagement, as well as failures in the engineering design or in the implementation plan. The method pursuit the goal to improve success by granting safety and effectiveness to the final product of the project implementation, acting especially at the transitory activities level by using its predictive properties.
